I was very skeptical about this video, but I was curious so I watched it anyway. I think the problem is that we (estonians) aren't used to have multi cultural people around and that just draws attention. So I think it just has to do with human curiosity more than racism. Although there still is racism, but I'm very sure that most of them are Russians and giving a bad example to the tourists. Anyway I'm glad I came across your channel and I hope you enjoy your time whenever you come back here! 👊🏼
It's great to see the perspective from a non American black/POC person. Some ppl in other countries tend to react positively when they hear an American accent because they associate that with wealth or the media they watch. It's interesting to see ppl's attitudes and reactions without the positive bias towards Americans.
On a TV show in the states called the Batchelor there was an episode where Zack was in Estonia doing a "Wife carrying contest" and there were Black people watching the contest it was a man and woman they looked like they were enjoying themselves and the Estonians seemed to be very friendly towards them
As an Estonian I can say that Narva is not a great place to visit in Estonia. It has the river with now a new promenade. I have been to Narva once but I don’t remember anything because I was a baby. I saw you asked people that where is the old town but there weren’t. That’s because during WW2 the Russians bombed the city (old town) and then well… occupied my nation. The old town wasn’t rebuilt but the Russians still built the city (in eastern style). The city is almost only Russian with noone really speaking anything other than Russian in daily life. The same happened with Tallinn (the bombing) but the old town was rebuilt. Those who you spoke with were all Russians and that’s why they didn’t speak much English even when they were young. Well i’m a 7th grader and I speak four languages and a bit of a 5th language as well. The looks that you got I think were because there aren’t any tourists other than Estonians and Russians and they surely saw a black person in their life for the first time ever.
I commend you. Of all the cities to visit in Estonia, it was Narva you decided to go to. If you were living in Estonia, you most likely won't be this outgoing especially with locals
If you respect the town, if you respect the people, they will respect you, in 99% of cases. Ofc as a general rule don't go looking for friends in the bad parts of a town thats silly.
Thank you for making Africans proud! You made me fall in love with Estonia!❤️❤️❤️! I will love to meet you in person. How do I come to Estonia from Kazakhstan by train?
I hope that Mart and Martin Helme aren't still in office. I saw the photo of the "hand signal" they did in 2019 and it was horribly racist. I found the statement that Martin Helme had made about potential Black immigration back in 2013, "if you're Black, go back", and, "I want Estonia to be a white country". Some of these folks watching a mustering of NATO troops were yelling insults at the Black troopers earlier in the 2010's. I hope that Mr. Tamara's journey will be much more pleasant. Godspeed, Mr. Tamara.
They haven't been in office for a couple of years by now, and their party breaking down, while they're accusing their former party members of being "agents of the deep state". I'm watching it with a glee.
30 dollars is quite normal in third biggest city in Estonia. Even if it is called "a ghetto" ( not really, but living quality is slightly lower) It is hard to find a place in Tartu and Tallinn below 60 euros. And apartments are usually over 300 a night.
90% of the population in Narva are Russian, that's why. Tallinn, Pränu, Tartu and the citys and towns where mostly Estonians live are very clean, beautiful and modern
