How Do Fossils Form | Evolution | Biology | FuseSchool
Fossils are the preserved remains of an animal or plant in a rock. Many of the fossils discovered so far are the ancestors of organisms that are alive today. The study of fossils is called palaeontology.
Much of what we understand about evolution comes from studying fossils.
When organisms die, their remains usually break down into nothing. Very occasionally, the right conditions occur and fossils are created.
There are different methods in which fossils form. One of these is for a dead organism to quickly become trapped and buried in sediment. Minerals cause the non-decomposed remains to crystallize in the process of permineralization. Another method in which fossils can be created is by the organisms being covered in a non-porous coating, such as tree sap (think of amber).

It would seem that if an organism fell into a river, then degradation would be more accelerated than on land...The fact that we have such a massive collection of fossils is extraordinary. I've yet to find one that can explain the phenomena of fossils.

What was the pre historical weather like so these fossils of full animals possible to be in a fossil? They said conditions had to be just right and over time the animal or object gets Covered by layers of dirt. Kinda puzzles me. There are no such conditions that are possible today. Usually there’s a lot of decay, other animals eating and insects destroying the bones. Only thing I can think of is a huge landslide or mud slide type of event to bury these objects. I guess that would also explain oil pockets and coal layers too but idk

Eggsellent Question ! Iam bonkers over fossills... the fossil history here in Shasta county reflects various megafauna in my woods... permineralization within this area is h8gh and many structures beckon to those fossilickers inclined to find virgin vistas and pristine conditions for success ! Vist my chunnel for an uneducation... thanks for your keen spot!

@SupremeMoose
@SupremeMoose 4 года назад
@@TheBomercommand Due to the physical changes of Earth through its history, land that used to be underwater is now above it. This is why there are many marine fossils on land. Mountains also form, so land that is now a mountain used to not be. Polystrates also have geological explanations.

Hmmm? What event can do all these?: *VERY Quickly cover whole animals/plants before they decay or are torn apart by the elements, predators or scavengers. *Happen so quickly it instantly buries 2 animals mid-battle. *Happen to multiple animals flowers and plants around the same time in history. *Happen over the entire planet. Sure sounds like fossils can only exist if the Global flood of Noah’s time actually happened.
@timdeathly
@timdeathly 4 года назад
That's fiction though, it's because of mud floods, earthquakes etc.. They need to be buried in a very low oxygen environment. there is only a really small chance that they fossilize even if conditions are perfect.
