nerds: this video was TOO long. I just had SO MUCH to say about colours and I didn't want to leave without tips and advices to help you with your colour dilemas. Next time I promise to make it shorter and snappier. Coffee and cookies to all of you, I hope you're having a wonderful Thursday ;) nerds: este video está DEMASIADO largo.
Just found you today and I´m binge watching your videos for 3 hours now... O____O I swear we are sisters. The way you lived your life with Sailor Moon and studying graphic design and then teaching yourself illustration while you were already drawing for your whole life---> I DID EXACTLY THE SAME. Big hug to you! And thank you for making your videos so enjoyable to watch. The editing is formidable!
i am so excited to here about sketchbooks! i'd also love to here about paper--what kinds you like, how you found your favourites, how you purchase your paper, etc. this was an awesome video! so excited to have you back!
Hands down one of the most sensical, easy to understand videos on building your color palette! ^ - ^ I struggle with finding what colors work best, so thank you so much!
Do you think you could do an art space tour, or "how I organize my art supplies" video? I love how neat and well decorated your home looks, and my studio space is always a total disaster.
This has been super inspirational! I always have this issue where I try to use all the colours, or I don't even feel too comfortable with the technique and just get out there way too much and then... I fail and I quit. So your method of using only a couple of colours first is something I HAVE to try! :) x
so glad to see a new video and even more happy that you are rejuvenated from your staycation! :D also for those who want to know, you can blend colors in photoshop just like in watercolor. Just lower the opacity of your brush to 50 or even lower and use a brush with 0% hardness :D cheers!
Thank you so much for making this. Most artists talk about color theories and that that is how they choose colors, but your video was more what I needed. The way you brake down your tips makes it so much easier for me to digest and get to what I needed to get started. I never thought about limiting color palettes that way before and I'm going to try that now. Thank you, again!
Hello Fran! I'm an (aspiring) illustrator from brazil and I've been watching you for months now. I just wanna tell you how much I appreciate your work and have found your videos very useful, inspiring and motivating, I always feel like I'm learning something with you!
I just stopped the video to say this. I am looking for how to use the colours in my illustrations and how to make my own scheme of colours for almost like 3 years? And this is THE VIDEO!!! thank you sooo soooo sooooo much for making this video. Really. It is night right now but when I wake up at the morning first thing that I will do is rewatch this video and do everything you said!
I m so happy I found you... I have started to doodle and chibis. i m learning by my own. I don't colour them coz I m scared that I will ruin it. and I needed a grand lecture on colours bcoz I m so confused what colours I should choose. what colours should I buy coz I don't have enough money. thanks a lot... 😭
Fran, your insight about the purple shadows was very accurate. I think someone has already said, but take a look at the works of the Impressionists. The shadows are bright and vibrant, just like you do. Very inspirational! I'm not sure if I have commented here, but I'm a big fan. Greetings from Brazil o/
thank you so much for sharing Fran!! I always and always appreciate your heart of sharing! Sounds like some people feel like the video is too long, but for me, the video is so enjoyable and feels like it is a 5 minutes video. I know how much time and effort you put in making videos, so I just want to let you know your fans love and enjoy what you do and what you present. Do it the way you like, don'y feel stress for making shorter videos. We love seeing ur face :))
I love the little details in the video where you wrote the tips on a little post note. I just think that so cute, of course this comes more easily to you because you are creative :) thank for sharing the tips Fran, always like hearing from you.
Yaay welcome back! I got so excited when this video came up hahah. Another wonderful video :) Also, you look so lovely here, and seem very well rested. I hope you enjoyed your stay-cation xx
Hi Fran, found you a few months ago, you are so enjoyable to watch/listen to. Most often I'm just listening as I work. This video on choosing a colour palette cracked me up as I break that rule everyday, I do use every colour of the rainbow and possibly some that aren't in it. :) Anyway, just wanted to stop and say 'Hi' hope the big move is not causing to many stresses for you, Ed and the kitties! Angel xx
Me too, when I was a kid I hated pink so much and every girly thing and now I'm a pink potato! I always loved cute stuff but I think maybe I didn't like to express that this way cause I wanted to be strong, now I know that's not the way and I'm very happy now! Your tips are always amazing, you make me want to practice more and more! Thank you so much Fran! Love your videos ~
The video was amazing 😄 I also used to mostly paint in pastel or very muted colors but recently I've been enjoying vibrant colors. loved all your tips!
What an absolutely info packed video! I've struggled with colours and constantly end up doing waaaaay too much and then hate what I've done. Great tips on how to tone that down! Thanks a bunches Fran!
this is insanely helpful! I'm taking an illustration class this semester and I sometimes get overwhelmed with the the colors choices that I end up using too many!
Thank you so much for sharing Colour Adobe, I'll be using it a lot since my colour theory skills aren't the best. And every time you do the ugly faces, it makes me laugh and happy! Thanks again!
This was so helpful! Especially the tip about mixing a base color for unity. I recently fell in love with watercolor, but I realized I had no idea how to make a color palette. Thank you so much~! :)
You have a distinctive unique drawing style that works really well in any colour schemes. Glad you got over your dislike for stronger colours, and even managed to choose and adapt the right ones into your own usual pastel colours. :)
YES! I'm so happy I started using more color Edric. I can't believe it took me so long to realise how cool contrasted and dark colours are, thank for your comment!
We've missed you so much! But I'm glad you took some time and rested, it was so worth it! And also, I want to say that this video was super helpful and inspiring. Colour palettes in digital painting drive me crazy, and your tips gave me a new approach on this. Thanks again Fran! You da' best 😁
Hi Fran! Thank you for your videos, they are very helpful. I am an illustrator working on my third collaboration book, and I just discovered your videos today looking for inspiration and ideas while I work. Congratulations on your illustrating career! You're doing very well :-)
Fran, you look so lovely in this video! You look like an angel in that lighting. You just look so rested and vibrant. I'm so happy you had a good vacation :^D
this video is AMAZING. I really need the colors tips (like "use just 3 colors for the start) because I am always insicure about that. Thank you so much! Ps: sorry for the english :P
Hello fran! All your videos have something that really inspire me, they're so pretty. And the spanish subs are helping me with spanish in my school! Gracias and hugs from Brazil :)
Hi Fran, I'm new here in the youtube art community. I just wanted to say that I recently discovered your videos and I like watching them very much. Thank you :)
Hi Fran, I knew you from Chriiissstttine's youtube channel and I think this video was super awesome. I think I came to the right channel for my current project, since I ran out of idea on color palette. thanks for showing us the Adobe Color ;)
Gracias Fran!!!
I really wanna learn to illustrate better and I found this video SO HELPFUL! Thank you!! (Also, your hair looks extremely good in this video! That style suits you so well!!)
Fran!!! I’d love to try your pastel color palette!!! But Coptic has sooo many colors with multiple color codes and names for each color range... I wonder if you would like to share your colic marker codes?? I’m now also trying to explore more other color palettes which i am not very good at. I wanna push me out of my comfort zone lol! I always work with the pastel/ light colors too, and must are pink, purple, blue. I now also add yellows into the palette and it actually works well!!
This was so helpful! As an illustrator, I tend to shy away from using any colour in my illustrations but I think I should be braver and experiment more :o ! Oh and welcome back :)
Very cool video with very useful tips ! I like it a lot ! :D I've begun to use these a lot, before I used to do colorless illustrations, now I can't stop thinking about color ! :D (Love your work and your videos by the way)
*I use the "Real Color Mixer" app on my phone to select palettes. It mixes the colors true to real life, not "computer color true", so when you mix a certain red with a certain blue, you know that the purple you see will be the same purple you get when you mix your paints/markers/etc. on the paper. It's a free app, and doesn't use alot of memory. Simple, to the point, and amazing.*
Inspirador, incluso si no ilustras jaja.
When I do an illustration in Photoshop I start with a base colour for whoole work. Then when I paint stuff on it, I'm working on lower opacity, so the base color shines trough I guess this method might be equivalent with your watercolour mixing technique
¡Gracias Fran!
I always enjoy watching your videos and they help me out so much - Thank you :-) I think there are two main questions people ask themselves when they start drawing or painting - what is my style and what colors/media do I want to use? ... I like that you also talk about personal preferences vs. what you "have to do" ... also seeing some more of your work which we haven't seen before was so interesting :-) Lots of Love, Nina :-)
I really love your videos, I'm really interested in illustration yet I'm scared to even try, I know quite basic drawing but I love colors so damn much, I'm used to oil painting and quite familiar with watercolors, so... I'm gonna give it a try, yet I need more references, love that in every video you talk about yours.
I've only watched one minute, but Fran, I need to let you know right now: you look amazing! Not that you didn't look nice before, but you look absolutely glowing in this video! Yay for staycation :)
Fran!!!
