Hey guys, the Leash Foundation Course is live! leashfoundation.com There is actually a clip of my demo dog grabbing the leash and playing tug of war with it, during one of the videos. In the clip, I show how to get control of the leash, and get the pooch to release🙌🏼 7 videos, 7 days, $20

Golly, Miss Koco, your technique of deactivating the handler end of the lead, taking all the fight n’ fun out of the dog’s bite, and choking up near terminal end/collar, is simply brilliant! Thank you for sharing! Liked and sub’d! Glad to have found your offerings! I must asked, your bandaged hands-dog related?

@@thekynologist155 awesome!!! Thanks for being here, glad the technique works for you! Yes, one of the dogs I pulled from a shelter got a hold of me, shredded and broke both of my hands. I had made a bad judgment call. My hands are healed, we got to work, and today he is my most well rounded and social dog. Working really hard, works!♥️♥️♥️

@@KocoGarcia Really appreciate your honesty, and even more your integrity and vocational commitment toward that dog! I don’t know if I have heard in recent memory (maybe ever?!) a more inspiring and encouraging success story, especially granting our new direction. A multitude of influencing factors are all coming to some practical conclusions and have led us to some fairly consequential decisions. We are shifting from a for-profit, professional dog training and behavior business to a not-for-profit program that selects and saves individuals from shelters and rescues for the purpose of then carefully pairing and placement of these ‘Saved to Serve’ dogs into homes for widowed, domestic violence victims, abandoned or otherwise single women/mamas to provide both persons (dog and their human) a new, righteous, healthy and mutually benefiting relationship. For sake of the vulnerable women, one benefit is security. Our dog selection criteria focus on our densely populated regional type we call Pix/Pixies (ie., Pit Bull mixes, most often X’d with GSDs, Australian Cattle Dogs [the ACD x Pit consistently produces the soundest dogs with the best balanced drives we’ve seen in our 30+ years of dog-craft and -training!), and other working breeds. The Pix provides often the best phylogeny for our mission, remarkably strong nerves, sense of duty, proper vocational drives, and physical gifts), but likewise their individual ontogenies often mirror the personal experiences of the women we, and ultimately our selected dogs, aim to serve. This only deepens the bond and personal commitments between the dog and new mama he loves and serves and who serves his needs in a worthy manner. Once selected, our dogs enjoy life together with us in a board n’ train-esque life and liturgy. Then, once dogs are proofed to life in service as Security Dog 1, 2, or 3 (from emotional and psychological security for the owner, also providing their home with the deference effect of an alert bark, and presence of a strong working dog) which is determined by the dog’s genetic and learnt potential As well as present limits and needs of clients in need, we turn our focus to the women and their leadership, and a development program that is designed to make each one a better handler than we are, so when certain gifts and limitations prevent perfection, the gals are nevertheless more than fit for their calling to the dog and his need for great leadership. All that bio to say: just our brief survey of your offerings here (looking forward to a break to check out your leash foundation program!), we can sense already, you have much to offer to encourage and inform our new direction and mission! So, thank you and blessings back, in advance! And may God’s hand rest on you, and heal your dog-healing hands!

Is there a video for a dog who is scared to be touched when I’m standing up. She will sit with me and allow me to touch all over. The minute we are just walking around-she’s ok with sniffing and touching me-the minute I try to touch her or even give her a treat she runs (she’s a rescue)

I just saw the video of your hands after surgery. You are so spot on about dogs being innocent when we get hurt and I'm saying this from experience in 2013 a brindle was tricked into thinking its master was in danger and lunged at a 13 year old girl I stepped in between caught his mouth to control his bite but his paw proceeded to rip part of my face off. Even after 11 hours of surgery I not only still felt this way but it has never made me shy away or lose my love for them. Keep doing your amazing work. Patrick

I have this same problem with my dog he's 1 years old and he does this every once in awhile he has gotten a whole lot better though. Usually when he does this on our walks I take the leash and put it behind him and make him sit and when he doesn't try to go for the leash he gets a treat and a "good boy!" He has gotten a whole lot better then he usually just continues the walk and leaves the leash alone, he has his days where he does and doesn't but it's rare now

You're fantastic and your methods work fine! Thank you... What the dog shows , to me, is excess of energy. Meaning, wouldn't it be nice if he had strong work out session at least three times a week, for him to enjoy the outbursts of energy natural for his age and playful condition? Thank you for your attention.

thank you for making a video on how to do this without bribing the dog with 3000 calories of treats
@deborahsmith8925
@deborahsmith8925 Год назад
I know it will take time and lots of practice. Other videos suggest giving treats, but with my dog that would send the wrong message of reinforcement. I started to soft muzzle him and he's shredded several of them and leashes. It's escalated to becoming a nightmare more recently, 10 seconds after we leave the front of the house. At first I could walk him around the block; with some pulling. I learned to drop it to loosen the tension. My one year old Pit male jumps up to work his way past the chain links to try to grab the leash handle. I am 62 and get so frustrated that he tilts me off balance and spins me in circles trying to play tug of war. He bites at my hand by mistake and growls to get his way. It's worse for me than what it must look like to observers. (that I don't have Titan under control) He is sweet in socializing with people and other dogs, but jumps and pounces with excitability. I let him run off leash with friendly companions; to expell extra energy. He starts back up once I get him releashed and it's time to leave. There aren't many dog parks close enough to me. And then there's the breed specific fear and concern. Although I've met so many neighbors who are passionate, understanding, and accepting of him. This is the best advice from my search, yet. Thank you from Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Got our beautiful Belgian shepherd mix from the shelter over a year ago. We live out in the country, we go for walks leashless because there's nobody around so he gets to run free but always stays within my sight. Now I realize I need to train him on a leash and it's a nightmare, all my fault. So I need these videos to teach me how to be the leader. Of course running Free is nice for him, but it has not taught him anything, which I realize. So now here I am trying to learn some foundation....

My dog is absolutely hot and cold on the leash. As a small puppy, he'd tug on it but nothing too bad. Then about 4 months old, all heck broke loose. He'd bite my legs and butt. Now, about 7 months old, he will yank and rip at the leash, jumping on me in the process. When the walk starts he's not so bad, but it's like he gets tired and throws a complete fit. I understand now, he's not too hot or in pain. He's having a bit ole temper tantrum, and I'll try this method tonight. He's stopping this crap

My dog is typically great on the leash, walks in front but never pulls and very responsive, but on occasion he starts this type of behavior he has since he was a puppy (he’s 4 now) and no matter what we’ve never really been able to fix it, it’s gotten better it happens less but it’s not gone. But instead of just bitting the leash he’ll escalate and bite your hands and arms often times hard enough to leave marks. I dont know how to fix this do you have any suggestions? I have tried most of what you show in this video I’ve taken positive reinforcement approaches as well as harsher punishment based methods and nothing works please help
@KocoGarcia
@KocoGarcia 4 года назад
Frida Olund are you using a Herm Sprenger prong? Watch the leash Reactivity video, and structured walk. If your dog is “typically” good on a leash that means he still sucks :) there is zero reason for your dog to be in front of you at any point. Between these 3 videos, there isn’t a better way to breakdown the training. You are allowing your dog to take the lead by walking slightly in front of you. The situations will continue to escalate, because your dog isn’t getting the proper feedback to tell him, that behavior is unacceptable. Watch all 3 videos again, use a Herm Sprenger prong, fit it correctly, pause the videos if you need to while you are working your dog. If you are in Phoenix AZ you can bring your dog over and I’ll fix it in 20 minutes... but you don’t need me, you can do this. Get serious about the details and use your voice as a tool. Less talking, and use the word “no” when the behavior is unacceptable, more importantly make sure your dog believes you when you say it.

I live in apt and this 12 yr old is forced to walk her mothers dog and last night my ring video has picked up the girl abusing this dog. It upset me so bad I’ve contacted the police again . I’ve had to call animal control and continues to send them all the videos that I’ve caught. She’s lifted the fog off the ground by the leash and last night was swinging the dog was on a carnival ride. It was so upsetting I couldn’t go to sleep and the police never came. They’re suppose to come today. They have several animals in their apt god only knows if those are being abused also. It’s torture for me to see these videos. I’ve told her two years ago she better not kick the dog in the gut ever again. I raised wolves with my two daughters and never have I ever yanked on leashes. I had to use a German choke collar only because wolves fur has a short very think under coat and then a long over coat. It’s really upsetting me to see this girl abuse this dog and it’s lunged at my grandson twice. I’m told the dog bit a boy but I understand the mother never called the police. This girl is abusing this dog because she gets angry at her mother. This girl has mental health issues I gather from a rape that happened and I heard the mother talking about it on the phone so loud I heard it from down stairs. I read on Google that I should call the prosecutor if animal control does nothing

My issue with her is that she bites the leash at the very beginning of it, leaving no room for me to grab and of it. I don't think she does it to play, rather so that it doesn't pull on her neck. I try to be more gentle with the tugging, but it seems as it's now a habit of hers. What should I do?

Other then that he doesn't give any aggression, he is very sweet and always hyper He knows how to wait, he know how to sit, he know show to come if not distracted, not good with focus. My hands look like I have a cat ,although he respond to no bite on hand way way better ,but feet is nearly impossible to do anything. He gets very anxious. @@KocoGarcia thank you !🙏 I’ll look into that! Is there a video on your RU-vid channel that covers that? Will be In touch for sure if needed! He’s super smart and has learned to “sit” like nobody’s business! Lol if I can get every command to be as simple as that one I’ll be in great shape! Another problem I’m gonna start addressing starting this afternoon is WHEN to leave my older dog alone. She likes to play with my 8 week old but when she’s done, she’s DONE and he doesn’t get that. Even if she’s a little aggressive with him.

I plan on trying these skills very soon. I walk a dog every day and he is crazy on the leash. He plays with it and I am not in control as much as I want to be. I get paid to walk him and so I want to try to teach him how to walk correctly. He is a bigger dog, but I will start with what you showed in the video. One question is does it matter what type of collar or harness he is wearing? Thanks.

What do you mean by "giving a bump on the leash"? You stated you should drop the leash with the anchor hand, yet In the video you don't drop the leash when you give "the bump" of the leash.

Haha this is a small dog! I have a mastiff 7 months who is built like a tank already, and goes crazy on the leash sometimes. I will do everything to try this method, but fingers crossed. She wrestles with us and always wins as she's so strong. Anyone got any advice for a huge powerful dog who bites the leash and throws herself about?? Thanks :o)

My 5 month old lab mix doesn’t pay much attention to the treats. They will hold his attention for about 5 seconds and then try to bite the leash off his harness. I hold the leash tight and leave no room for him to bite but he just goes crazy… jumping up trying to bite the leash that he can’t even see, laying on the ground kicking. Not sure what to do here

I’m that girl that comments on your every video this is just a different account 😂 But I have a question, my dog has interacted with this dog that lives near our neighbours house. My dog would stop at that house and won’t leave even when I correct him with his prong collar. It takes him about 10 min to leave that house and go with me what should I do?
@KocoGarcia
@KocoGarcia 4 года назад
Baby duck this is your walk, not your dog’s. Dont allow him to decide where you stop. Walk right by. He has not earned the privilege of stopping to say hi if you can’t get him to leave for 10 minutes. If your prong is fit correctly and you are an average sized person, you aren’t giving the correct feedback to get your dogs attention. Watch the structured walk and leash reactivity videos again

Is it a possibility I could reach out to you regarding some pointers on dog training? I’ve reached out to over a dozen people and I can’t seem to get any help in regards to training. The reason why the dog training is important to me (and I’ve taken certification classes on dog psychology)as I’ve began a program in my local area to help and rehabilitate bully breeds specifically Pitbulls to reduce the euthanization rate in my area. My community outreach is getting a lot of attention and I feel like I am not equipped fully to handle what’s coming my way ? Would there be an opportunity to speak with you directly?

I have the same problem as a lot of others do. I have a 5 month old Border Collie and he constantly bites the leash and jumps and spins. I know you mentioned that you leave slack on the leash even though your trying to correct the behaviour but the problem I have is he never leaves slack on the leash and always keeps it’s taunt. I wish I could stop this behaviour.

When I take my puppy (9weeks) outside to go potty, he is often biting the leash. Should I do the same thing or is he too young for this?
@KocoGarcia
@KocoGarcia 3 года назад
Jen Kashak I would leave the leash on, but drop it. Just so he gets used to leash placement. Use food to lure him to follow you, don’t worry about teaching him to not bite the leash- focus on what you want him to do; follow you.

@@theguardgirl So glad it worked! I tried water with a tiny bit of vinegar in, for an acrid smell, but it didn't have much affect. I may buy one of those air spray cans, you just spray it near them and the loud hissing is a deterent. Fingers crossed!

Not helpful in my case. Puppy is ankle-high, and if I grab the clip she just swivels her head to bite me. If I drop the rest of the leash it goes in her mouth and she throttles it.
