Two Apple experts show you how to use the Measure app on your iPhone and explain how accurate it really is! The Measure app will automatically be installed on iPhones, iPads, and iPods running iOS 12, the next major Apple software update for those devices.
iOS 12 is currently in beta, but it will be completely released in the fall of 2018.
In this video, we show you how to use the Measure app and spend a few minutes measuring simple objects like a yard stick and a box.

if you go to a hardware store and don't have a tape measure for small items you can use a dollar bill. 6 inches, 6 3/32 inches to be exactly

I’m no expert but I believe to get the right measurement you need to keep the size of that circle closely the same diameter at all times. I noticed that by doing it that way I always get the correct measurement.

I think it's purpose is estimation when it comes to measuring lengths. The level though works very well. If you have a model where the camera sticks out then just put it on top of something. I've found that when the phone says something is level it is.

Why are you looking at the objects from a diagonal point of view? Does it make a difference if the object like a box is in front of you while your measuring from top view?

Well, I guess I won't be using this App very often. The Nikon "Measuring Tool" we used at work cost about $5,500.00. It was accurate in both distance and degree of angle.

Yeah...this is a goofy, novelty app. It’s not meant to take the place of a $5000 professional grade Nikon. That would just be silly.

Face it - you're converting 3 dimensions to 2. Any artist knows that a rectangle, viewed from different angles, will remain a quadrilateral, but the lengths of the sides will always be shifting.

I use the measure app to measure my dinner table and from corner to corner it shows 66”... I then use a tape measure and from corner to corner it shows 63”...

I don’t get why people get so close. Take a little distance. Then it works better. Try making everything fit the camera instead of zooming in that close.

To measure accurately, you need to move the iphone with same distance from start to end. Much better to use tripod.

Does anybody know how it automatically measures somebody's height and what the code is for that? My class is trying to recreate something similar to that and I would be amazed if anyone is experienced enough to help us... We are a bit stuck 😂

It's not compatible with the iPhone 5s because it uses AR technology that's only found on newer iPhones.

Checking in in 2021 and the measure app is still half baked. It’s fun to play with, but could isn’t trustworthy enough for anything that matters. What a pity!

In all fairness, your point wasn’t on point on the yardstick 😕 You guys are at an angle so it’s not going to be accurate. I’ve found this app to be quite accurate when it’s used correctly. Just sayin.

Can you delete this from your iPhone? No need to take up space if it isn’t reliable and doesn’t work. Im an artist, and my eyes are more accurate than this app is!
