Hey Thanka so much for taking the time to make this video. I love boxing but I have never understood how the score card was read. Now that I'm a real life vr champion boxer, I can read and understand the score card. Cool Man thanks

Hello, so if a fighter is winning a round and gets a point deducted, is it now scored 9-9?

There's so much more to it. The more active fighter. The more aggressive fighter. The better ring generalmanship. Who is the riegning champ. Who defended better. Etc etc.... We need a validation system for judges and their scores. Maybe public release of criteria and considerations judges are scoring on? Judges should be assessed on their score matching the criteria and judges judged and/or scored themselves. With each commissioned boxing match having a minimum level of scoring required of the Judges for them to be able to judge the fight. Higher level the fight, higher level the judge score required. *The assessment of judge scoring/assessment also needs to be on public record for all to see.

I think the controversy around Joshua Usyk 2 scoring was Joshua landed the heavier shots but Usyk pelted him with way more ligth shots thus the descrepancy of one ref having 116-112 for Usyk and the other 115-113 for Joshua. But i thing the split decision was fair as i would suggest the 115-113 in favour of Usyk was more accurate
@GRF64
@GRF64 Год назад
I personally had it 117-111 Usyk, could maybe be 116-112.

It’s fairly rare but you can win a 10-8 round by being supremely dominant without a knockdown. My brothers a boxing referee, prior to that he was a judge. A judge can also overrule the referee in some cases. Eg if the ref scores a slip and the judge feels it was a knockdown you can overrule… as a judge you can also overrule fouls in wales but not sure about other countries.
@BrokenNoseBoxing

Indeed! It’s so rare though that I didn’t include it, it’s complicated enough to explain!

Unless we get some technology to measure each fighter’s health bar we won’t see much changes to the 10 points much system.

What if one fighter scores 2 knockdowns, but the other fighter scores 1 knockdown? Is it 10-8, or 10-9?
@MrBolless
@MrBolless 2 года назад
I thought it was scored by judges tallying up the punches/significant punches landed for each fighter lol. I just watched the Canelo v GGG fight and could understand it turning out to be a draw but I didn’t understand how the judges scored it. You are right, very controversial and in my opinion completely ridiculous Especially after watching that fight and one of the judges gave canelo 10 rounds
@BrokenNoseBoxing
@BrokenNoseBoxing 2 года назад
Thanks for watching, Lucy! It’s very ‘subjective’, judges can score fights different ways which often leads to controversy & complaints. I wish there were universal scoring rules
@muntee33
@muntee33 2 года назад
It essentially is, but say both fighters land the same amount of punches then other considerations come into play, such as who was the aggressor BUT who was the more accurate puncher/defender. And if it's a championship bout than it is up to the challenger to convincingly prove they are the better fighter ie; the reigning champ is usually given the benefit of the doubt if the margin is close.

I guess there was no round limit in the past? Hence no scoring - eventually somebody's gonna drop... Anyway, thanks for the vid dude helps a lot I always wondered whether they start on 10 and have pts reduced. Cheers

Nicely explained, thanks! I have a question. Say a boxer clearly wins a round but he also got knocked down. Will the score then be 9-9?
@BrokenNoseBoxing
@BrokenNoseBoxing 2 года назад
Thanks Sam! So, usually it should be, but in most scenarios, the judge will score it 10-8 to the person who knocked the other down
@Sam-rf1cz
@Sam-rf1cz 2 года назад
@@BrokenNoseBoxing Ah okay, so I assume knocking down an opponent in practice just wins you the round, regardless of how you performed in the rest of the round. What if a person was to easily win a round but get a point deducted from the referee for whatever reason, would the score then be 9-9? Or is it very unlikely for a round score to not be 10-x?
@BrokenNoseBoxing
@BrokenNoseBoxing 2 года назад
It depends on the judge, but I think most would score that 9-9

If I knocked my opponent down so 10 - 8 but if he knocks me down after, it cancels out the other knockdown so then it would be 10-9 to the more active / better fighter in that round. When Andy Ruiz KDd Joshua twice it would have been a 10 - 7 round but Joshua KDs Ruiz at the start of the round which made it 10-8 again to Ruiz.

What happens if a fighter is clearly winning the round and the other fight gets a knock down how is that round scored
@BrokenNoseBoxing
@BrokenNoseBoxing Год назад
I think I covered this in the video, but usually it’s scored in favour of the person who got the knockdown: 10-8. But some judges could score it 9-9

Could u look into the ksi vs fury fight. The score cards were messed up and 1 kudge in 1 round scored a 9 8 (tommy got a 1 point deduction) but the judge changed the score to 9 9 8 mins after the fight ended. Im pretty sure u cnat do that right? And 1 judge didnt add up the scores properly. Cluld u plz look into it and tell me what your view of it is and who u think should have won

There are only 4 criteria for scoring a boxing match. Read this from Dazn. What do boxing judges look for? Here are the following areas in which boxing judges are encouraged to determine who 'won' or 'lost' a round: Effective Aggression: Being aggressive gives the impression of dominance, but unless the boxer is landing shots and not constantly getting countered, it isn't really 'effective'. Judges look for effective aggression, where the aggressor consistently lands punches and avoids those from his opponent. Ring Generalship: The fighter who controls the action and enforces their will and style. Defense: How well is a boxer slipping, parrying, and blocking punches? Good defense is important. Hard and Clean Punches: To the untrained eye, it can appear as if a boxer is landing a lot of shots, when, in fact, most are being blocked or aren’t landing flush. A judge needs to look for hard shots that land clean.

That is not an official list that every governing body in the world uses, though. It's very subjective

Let's say we have a boxing match, and one fighter is known to be very aggressive and always on the attack and the other fighter is known to be extremely defensive. So, the if we were to believe that boxing is susceptible to corruption from rich influential groups or individuals like pretty much everything in the world. And when judges are being chosen, to sway the decision to favorable odds by the powers that be; judges who favor defensive type fighters are picked for this particular match or vice versa. The outcome of the fight is more than likely already decided. The scoring system is flawed and is and has been manipulated for years. You can hear it when fans "BOO" the supposed winner and the losing opponent receives the cheers. Example Paquiao vs Bradley 1 and even back to the 1988 Olympics with Roy Jones Jr. losing the gold medal in Korea. Not really an example of choosing judges for a particular fight style but more just straight up corruption. Sadly, even with investigations and proof of corruption, manipulation and tampering with judges' decisions in boxing... judges' decisions are never overturned. Which is bull$#!+...
