3:01 Nice explanation. On October 2022, I have macerated Mongolian Musk Grains into Mysore Sandalwood oil along with Ensar’s Rose 1978 (almost 45 years aged rose oil). A few days back, I opened the vial and sniffed the maceration, and I am like whoa 🤯 It’s blown me away. What a beautiful dense musky rosy aroma has formed.

I'm from the Himalayas and I have come across fresh musk many times. To me, At first, it's like when you stick your finger deep in your belly button, mixed with a faint hint of baby soap. But after a while, the strong smell fades and it turns into this heavenly scent. It's wild!

there are two smells in the word like that makes me turn my head and want to track its source, musk and oud. I love them so much. They are just, very aluring. One of the reasons is Rasulullah sallallahu teala ve sellem used them and encourages using them but, aside from that its just, I don't know they are really other worldly smells

Brother, I personally think that if there is one scent you can not describe in words, it would be Deer Musk, and if there is most beautiful natural perfume/attar that nature has made then its Oud. Same as you, my most favourite Notes are these 1. Oud 2. Musk Grains (Maceration in Sandalwood is the best) 3. Mysore Sandal 4. Blue Lotus 5. Rose Taifi 6. Saffron

Hi, From my knowledge if i leave some musk grains to macerate in some sandalwood oil and expose it to air, it ages better. Because the sandalwood oxidises and gets stronger. But if I leave agarwood oil (oud) open to the air, it loses its charecter and smell profile. What are your experiances with aging deer musk in sandalwood/agarwood oil? Thanks for your videos, Farhaad
@scentexplorer
@scentexplorer 10 месяцев назад
Yes. I am not that expert but Agarwood does lose its quality and smell with air. I will leave my sandal wood open with musk

Does Deer Musk improve projection or “diffusive” properties of Attar oils it is layered with? I have a 10% Nepalese Deer Musk macerated in Sandalwood and I am curious how this would influence My attars or fragrances. Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated
@scentexplorer
@scentexplorer 7 месяцев назад
Deer Musk macerated in Sandalwood is so addictive, but in my opinion not much powerful. But it can give a mysterious depth to any attar you add it too. I have 2y old maceration of Himalayan Musk grain and OMG! It's so relaxing and addictive, as I used like 30% ratio in it. For me, normally Ambergris maceration and Jasmine will lift the power of any attar. Jasmine gives a punch and Ambergris makes it more powerful that it stays longer on skin. I am not an expert when it comes to attar making.

Chris, Deer musk oil is made by mixing it with other oils like Sandalwood oil. As these are grains, I don't think that oil can be extracted from them. Deer Musk grains mixed with Rose Oil or mixed with Sandalwood oil are very amazing. I have one mix that is 1 years old and it will get better with time. Try to buy a maceration of Deer Musk Grains + Sandalwood Oil and you will be amazed

Nice video… some people can’t smell musk at all. If you get fresh grains from young animal, the dry grains can smell sharp and urine-ish. They mellow out during oil maceration. Aged grains smell gorgeous dry. Another thing is that musk tends to overpower soft sandalwood (over time) while rose overpowers them both. Rose can even overpower oudh which was shocking to me.
@scentexplorer
@scentexplorer 2 года назад
Thanks for the info! You really solved my problem. I mixed sandalwood with Musk Grains and it just amplified Sandal smell and make it like sharp and I thought that my Musk grains were fake. So you mean mix of Rose Sandalwood and Musk with Oud is a good combo. I love mostly Rose + Musk + Oud Combo a lot
@YaYa-ke1zr
@YaYa-ke1zr 2 года назад
@@scentexplorer You are welcome. I think it all depends on the quality of the ingredients (age, type, condition), percentages of ingredients and user preferences. I like my musk maceration around 25%. The resulting oil starts to smell musky after 6 months or so but will smell of sandalwood until then. Even the most pungent of musk grains can mellow beautifully in sandal IF you are careful to remove tissue from the grains (sometimes hard to do if grains are moist) and you give it enough time. As for rose, I like only a touch of it (because I’m not a huge rose fan) and I’ve seen it totally take over everything except Ruh Khus. I remember an interview with a famous perfumer and they said something like: add a touch of rose oil to a bottle of oud and for a few weeks, you will have a beautiful rosey oud… but come back 3 months later, and you may only smell rose oil.” I’d be so sad if that would happen to me. 🥲
@YaYa-ke1zr
@YaYa-ke1zr 2 года назад
@@scentexplorer I forgot to comment on your other question. Yes, rose, oud, and musk is extremely popular… just be careful with the amount of rose. I’ve had good luck with musk grains in oud then combining that with a mild sandalwood which has had a drop of rose oil in it. If the sandalwood is mild enough, the oud will keep it subdued. The trick is in finding the right sandalwood, the right oud, and the right musk variation to play nice with each other. Siberian musk will present differently from Mongolian, Tibetan will present different from Siberian and Siberian different from Kashmiri, etc.

Hello my friend. As you are named scent explorer 🙂 i hope you can answer this. I am in possesion of ASQ's Nepal Tonkin deer oil made of Nepal' gazelle as you probably know. If you have smelt it ever this scent, how can you compare it with pure musk grain smell? Kashmiri or not kashmiri? Is the final product any different from that 1gram that you have bought? Thanks for your response in advance.

I haven't smelled Tonkin Deer musk. I think Ensar Oud had few attar with Tonkin Deer musk mixed in it. For what I have heard, Kashmiri Musk or Tibetan Musk are at the top of scent profiles in the race of musk grains. Siberian and Mongolian are after those two.
