Lesley, I was truly delighted to see a new video from you today. And such a wonderful one to watch at that. I was saddened and a little worried at your departure and now hopeful that things have improved for you. Say 'hi' to all the white throats up there from me! I miss seeing my winter buddies hanging around my back porch. ❤
Hollywood is run by the lowest creatures on Earth. It should never be observed, nor even spoken of. These "Scribes" have plagued the Earth for thousands of years... Please DO NOT feed them, nor heed them. Thank you, and be well.
What a purely delightful surprise! I was thrilled to sit back and take this all in with great enthusiam! Regarding the last thing Leslie said... birds are all at once incredibly delicate, and shockingly strong and resilient. Nature's feathered jewels! And Leslie! A formidable re-entrance into a spot of love and longing. YOU HAVE BEEN SORELY MISSED!
it's so beautiful how much personality each little bird displays when observed from up close, even dreaming sometimes! animals are so much smarter and more like us than we give them credit for
Oh Lesley! Thank you so much for putting together this beautiful video and sharing sweet Inky and Philbert's journey. What a gift! I laughed, I cried, I giggled, I smiled. She has a mini-me! Philbert snuck past and got to feed the babies, hehe. And that cute bumblebee when he tumbled down. So happy for the sweet, hardworking couple and all their babies. Thank you again for sharing this labor of love with us. Happy birding to you, too! 💗💗💗
I don't think so. This is the longer video she's been working on. I don't think there are any more planned, but I hope there will be more in the future.
What a wonderful adventure! And 13 eggs in one nest??? What in the world have you been feeding these two?? 😂 The large volume of a nest box could be a factor but the second brood was much smaller so....? Thank you so much for putting all of this together. It's very enjoyable and educational for all ages- the rarest of glimpses into a tiny world. 😁🐦
Hahaha, only the best food :D I do wonder if the nest box size is what helped. Thanks for checking out the video, Todd. I loved making this one, the most enjoyable video I ever created, I was in complete flow state. Hey I guess boating will be soon huh? :)
@@LesleytheBirdNerd That's so cool that you had so much enjoyment creating it- maybe in part because you didn't feel pressed to do so like a weekly post? I find that disconnecting from a project then revisiting it later (sometimes months later) helps tremendously, like looking at it with new eyes. Yes, boating soon! All the docks are in around here- some more prep to do then we'll be putting in many nautical miles. :^D. Will keep ya posted- I hope you guys get to catch a pile of fish and fill the freezer. BTW I can picture the hatchlings saying "Papa, papa! We saw.... The Hand of Jamie!" "Well children have no fear. Gather around and I'll tell you about The Friendly Giants!" 🖐😀🐦
Hahahaha that was so darn cute and funny, Todd. The baby chickadees being told all about the friendly giants. XD Too good! Yes, I agree, stepping away for a while and then coming back to a project is a very good idea sometimes! Enjoy your boating. We bought kayaks a couple of weeks ago. I've never done it before so I'm going to have to do some practicing and safety learning but I'm so looking forward to it. :) Have a great day!
@@LesleytheBirdNerd Kayaks are super fun- you'll have a great time! We sneak up on wildlife on the shores often, including fawns and waterfowl. :^D Enjoy your week!
It's so nice to read everyone's comments, I missed it. Thank you for the pleasant comment and support. Appreciate it a lot. Have a great new week ahead
I can't wait to watch this video, and i will say, welcome back! I can't thank you enough for cementing blue jays as my favorite bird, and as such for a long time in the future.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd This year, I have only heard one a single time; maybe it's just a weird start to the year in Wisconsin, and they'll come back some time. I'd love to see one again, or maybe even get a photo of one. The day that I got into birdwatching was an interesting one, I had awoken to the sound of a blue jay and decided that I would try and get out of bed and pull out my camera to try and get a photo of it. I wasn't able to locate it, unfortunately, but on the way of trying to find it I had found a robin that I eventually decided to follow with my camera to see where it would go. I kept looking at the various birds I saw, learning which bird was what through google searches of its description, and even learning calls with some app that would say which birds' calls it heard, all the way until some sandhill cranes came, which stayed around until it got too dark to see anything much. That day, I had spent the entire day birdwatching, getting to see the sun rise, and set, all in one sitting, and learning quite a lot about birds. It was like something had flipped in my brain; going from someone with not much of an interest at all in birds, someone who had called a robin a cardinal, and couldn't name anything about them anyways, to someone who could recognize most of the birds I see, and even name a few facts about them. From there, too, I have developed quite an interest in learning more about birds, and a part of this jump into a new hobby was actually sparked by some of your videos, which worked in harmony with my obsession for the blue jay species.
Beyond THRILLED to see this video...missed you ! Its like reuniting with a long lost friend. Hope all is well with you, and thanks for this precious video.
Good morning, Lesley! I was so happy to find this notification, this morning 💕 We love our local bird residents too. The Orioles arrived just two days ago, and we’d already had our jelly feeders waiting. Their arrival is my cue to put out the hummingbird nectar feeders. We’re still waiting for them to appear, and it could be any time now. Our neighbors enjoy seeing all the birds that come to our feeders, too. Often I’ll get a text informing me who has shown up out there. Always exciting! Thanks for all you do. Welcome back 💕
Wow! This is so beautiful! All of these precious little baby Dee Dees! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you, so very much Lesley for sharing this with us. Sweetest little birbs. 😍
My cat and I watched this with so much joy and cherished every moment. Thanks so much for sharing! My kitty actually fell asleep before it ended, too. It definitely gave him comfort to listen to the birds and see them moving around in the nest. So cute!
@@marthakratz7877 He may have, but he definitely had a dream where he was nursing I think or drinking his water. He was doing that little sucky sound in his sleep. LOL it's so cute when they do that.🤣🥰
What a PLEASANT SURPRISE! Sure is a treat seeing you post again! Hope you and your family are doing great! Planting the garden this week here in Pennsylvania. Are you gonna be posting now and again? I sure hope so! Love your stuff Leslie! WOOOHOOO! YEEHAWWEE! YIPPEEE! HOOORAAYY!
Oh Lesley what a wonderful surprise! And what an amazing video! Thank you so much! It's wonderful to see you and I hope to see you more often, whether it be occasionally or more frequently. There is so much negativity going on in the world today that something this beautiful is a welcome sight. Thank you!
I love how you pointed out Philbert's desire to feed the babies, but Inky was in full control mode! Like us humans! Beautiful docu and commentary. ❤ Always a plasure watching your videos! Thank you again, Lesley! You're growing this community of birders! Have a great day!😊
Thank you, Lesley! And thank you to your husband too. Ten more little birdies to brighten up our world. It was tense, and riveting, when the first fledgling wouldn't eat in the beginning. I had to pause the video, thinking that little birdie wouldn't make it. Glad it started to eat - with its parents's persistence and instinct to continue to feed it. Then it was so funny seeing all the fledglings asleep but once they heard their mommy or daddy calling to give them food, they would abruptly open their mouths to receive the grubs.
How nifty to see the different behaviours from the first filming of a nestbox, especially the dreaming! And wow, that's a lot of babies! Thanks for putting together this video! Your hard work is much appreciated.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd She is indeed! Pulling part of the nest over her head to keep warm was so relatable and interesting to see. I do the same with my covers.
Isn’t it remarkable to think birds might be able to dream? Just wow! So glad to see you posting again! 😊Thank you for this beautiful & interesting video! ❤
Oh!!! A new Lesley video AND it's chickadees!! What a wonderful gift. I so enjoyed this, and I was fascinated by Inky getting fur from a pellet 😆 These are such incredible little guys. Thank you so much for this video. 🥰
You had two of the most invasive birds trying to take over your Chickadee box. The House Sparrow and European Starling. I love all birds, but the Sparrow and Startling can be a little annoying at times. But I still love them. I’m glad it all worked out ❤️.
SO GOOD TO HEAR YOUR VOICE AGAIN!!! Sharing your experience of watching Phoebe (sp?) and Inky raise two families had me in tears, not from sadness, but from joy. If you hadn't shared this with us, I wouldn't have been able to feel this joy. This video is AWESOME! THANK YOU!!! 💞💖💞
I have a family in my shop that is about to fledge too! I moved to NC a couple of years ago and wondered why I didnt see any Carolina Chickadees in Carolina but this spring I spotted one eating the birdseed I put out. Then I walked in my shop and there she was in a nest she'd built almost at eye level in a small empty box. I stayed out of there as much as I could and I think there are 5 in the nest. Been leaving some mealworms just for them every day and they are so big! They do look about to fledge but I dont have a camera set up nor do I see them more than the once a day I go in briefly to leave the worms. I'm so happy to see the little things, you've no idea.
Oh Leslie so glad to see a video again! And just in time! My favorite bird, the Chickadee, is busily building a nest in their box at this moment, here in Michigan. I have been hoping they would, and have been putting out fur from my (indoor) cat Lucy. Now their nest, ironically, is lined with her fur. I saw them sparring with a house wren yesterday after the wren entered the nest box. They really went after her and won the bird fight. Hopefully the wren won't get too aggressive. Also have six newly hatched Bluebird babies in my other box. Spring is here! Thanks Leslie ❤
Awww how wonderful. too bad about the fighting between them and the wren though, Hopefully that doesn't happen again. Too good about the Bluebirds having hatched. They are such sweet birds. Have a great time!
@@LesleytheBirdNerd Thanks! Hopefully the wren learned it's lesson. I also have a bully Robin that dive bombs the Bluebirds, but they are tough cookies. You have taught me a lot and your videos are so calming and expertly done. My Dad is 95 and just loves your videos. He is the one that found your videos and then showed them to me. You are making a wonderful impact in this harsh world.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I will! He will be thrilled that I know the Bird Nerd! He just went into assisted living and is doing well. I bought him one of your bird T-shirts. 🐦
