Sir Saveloy is a liar - end of story. Energy prices are fixed and paid for 2 years in advance. The energy companies put the cost up to make obscene profits! Here in the U.K. we pay the highest energy costs IN THE WORLD! Let that sink in! Do the research and you will find this is the truth. The standing charge is supposed to pay for new cables (electricity) and gas pipes but this has risen to over 60p per day for electricity. This is £220 per year before we even pay a penny for the electricity we use. I don't have gas in my village but I understand the gas standing charge is 31.something pence per day, which is another £113 per annum. This is an absolute scandal. They are milking us for every penny. Something needs to be done.

If your domestic use-cost is high, then YOU don't have the money to splash, either, so bang goes growth. If taxation is high, again, bang goes growth. Write to you MP and ask why we have the highest electricity prices. I have. Economics is not Labour's strong point.

Destroying businesses, our local hall has decided to only open Tuesday to Thursday to save on heating.

Every time renewable energy comes onto the grid we pay for it in green subsidys tax... in other words when the wind turbines don't work... or they can't store the energy produced at peak times... we pay for it in our bills... it's been happening for years and labours push towards Net Zero is accelerating it... shutting down power stations and Britains reluctancy to invest in Nuclear power is only going to end up with bills going up and eventually blackouts on the power grid.

They're doing because they can 😊

Strange that they tell you to submit meter readings prior to Oct rise, I thought these smart meters sent readings automatically. No wonder trying to get a better deal without a smart meter is so difficult if not impossible

We pay 74% more than any other country for gas. Also, the wind turbines in the North Sea are foreign owned, we pay for the subsidiaries on this too, even if we don’t use the electric generated we still pay the subsidiaries! It’s all a con and we’re all sucked into this vortex of greed.

My account was taken over by British Gas in 2021 and immediately increased my tariff 40% after promising a competitive tariff. I complained and took them to the Ombudsman. Guess who pays the Ombudsman. Yep, the energy cartel. You can't make this sh1t up!

THE ORIGIN OF THE TERM "FLEECED" START THERE

I’m currently living and working in Ethiopia and rent a flat in Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is a land locked country with hardly a modern infrastructure. I received my first utilities bill for two months of electrify and water. It was around five pounds. So how is it, in the middle of nowhere, in a mainly undeveloped country energy costs next to nothing and yet in Europe and the UK we are paying the most expensive energy bills in the World?

I am with British gas and they kept asking me to have a smart meter fitted and i told them i would charge rent for that to be fitted and i haven't heard from them since.

Ofgem, who work on behalf of the Government increase the energy price cap, the energy companies make huge profits from the increase, then the government sets a windfall TAX on the energy companies, so the Government make money from the TAX and the energy companies still make more profits from what's left over, a win win for both, meanwhile we get shafted and the Gov can blame the energy companies which gives them the excuse for the windfall TAX ... and all the sheeple say good on the Gov for Taxing them .... a simple way to screw the public

Except for British Gas, Drax and a few others, they are NOT energy companies but energy DEALERS, and you can get your money back from DEALERS

I worked for a large energy firm for 10 years, it was selling energy to business's, so not residential but same thing essentially. We were told we purchased energy 4 years in advance, so if customer was aware of a market drop we were still selling at prices 4 years ago or whatever. So when they were selling us this energy at these inflated costs 'because of war', the war hadn't even started when they purchased the energy! So they sold us back energy they purchased much cheaper but inflated and no one really knows this so they got away with it and still do... Its almost comical how they got away with it. Its disgusting, total profiteering and ofgem are in bed with them much like the FDA in America they get cushy jobs after they leave ofgem, many of ofgem have worked for the big providers. I'll add that along with other stuff going on i blew the whistle and ended up going to a national paper but it went cold and now i am black listed from ever working in energy again, not that I care about that, utter gangsters.
