Interesting perspective on supporting already existing and funded business initiatives instead of trying to sell the DG program independently. Very common mistake indeed.

That is very valuable point indeed. This is the right approach almost always, since most organizations are not so heavily centrally controlled and do not see data as most important part of their business. Only in cases where the executive board is fully convinced about the criticality of data governance for the business and the organization is very process focused, you can have a more top-down systematical approach in the implementation of data governance. Even then it would be critical to find the business benefit...
