#askmark let's say you're on a dive and get yourself (by accident of course) in a bit of a predicament and you start to panic or start to lose it. Can you give us tips about how to get your cool back. But also if you do lose it how to get control back. /Panicmode off

When I feel getting stressed underwater, I close my eyes and take control over my breath while relaxing my thoughts. Once I am back under control, I reopen my eyes and continue with the dive.

#askmark hi from Norway. It's getting cooler in the waters here, and with that I came over a small problem last dive. How do you communicate numbers to your buddy when wearing lobster-gloves with only two or three fingers?
@Sherwoody
@Sherwoody 3 дня назад
From Canada here. On your predive, setup a set of signals with your buddy, generally exaggerated ones. For example, for an air check, use a saw motion on your arm for the first number, and a karate chop for the next numbers. For 1400psi 1 saw motion and 4 chops.

As @Sherwoody says: it's mainly prearranged signals or just show the other diver your gauge so that they can read the numbers for themselves. Alternatively you can write down the numbers on a slate or wetnotes and point to each number in sequence.

I don’t know if this is a solution, but i would swim around on the surface whille breathing with the regulator, then lower tour head a little and keep breathing calmly and start descending slowly. Please let us know if this worked. I has happened to me and I solved the issue, but everyone is different. Good luck and keep diving!!

How do I deal?? Simple. I think of the woman who Inspired me to get Certified🥰🥰. Even when I was separated and lost during my OW training Dive.

#ASKMARK how do i stop cramp in my calfs during a dive
@ScubaDiverMagazine
@ScubaDiverMagazine 11 часов назад
The first step is preventing it by staying hydrated, keeping your magnesium and potassium levels up and stretching before the dive. Your technique in the water can also play a large part in causing cramps. If your buoyancy isn't great then you'll be using your fins to control your position in the water more and if your finning technique itself is bad then you can be putting more strain on a single muscle. And if you're finning the same motion repeatedly throughout the dive that can fatigue the muscle so mix it up with a different style from time to time. Once you have cramp, the first thing is to tell your buddy so they can help and won't just swim off. Get some good deep breaths for some fresh air and stretch the muscle. You're after a long-gentle stretch to help relax the muscle and massage the muscle if you can reach to promote bloodflow. Once the cramp has gone wait a little while before using the muscle again so you don't trigger a repeat.

On my first dive of the day, I always panic as I first break the surface and start the descent. I know I’m hyperventilating, but everything just feels wrong with the reg and my nose, even though I know it’s all in my head. Comes from a bad experience I had about 15 years back, second dive of my life, where the instructor pulled me down under the water. Second dive of the day onwards is always fine, so this is just really embarrassing. Any advice other than maybe close my eyes as I break the surface, and just focus on my breathing? 🙏 I need to be cured 🤿 🐟💙

Also, I remembered that I held my regulator against my mouth so I wouldn't pull it off in the middle of this episode, it will pass, I said to myself.

I have the same feeling during the start of descent on somes dives, like everything goes wrong. Especially when I don't see the bottom like vertigo. Now at surface I force myself to stay on the back and breath deeply, I avoid to the max to look down. My buddies know this situation so we adapt our descent routine : I start descent looking right at him/her, not down, and we add a bubble check at 5m to reassure myself about equipement and to occupy the mind. After that I have no issue to continue the descent and the dive. Maybe that can help you !

Thank you very much Mark once again a great video. "The difference between perceived danger and actual danger" leads to panic. This quote I got from the video on fear by Chris Hadfield: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zo62S0ulqhA.htmlsi=JXxhQ5wkzVQgMQ89
