This is an awesome video! I've salvaged 8 vacuums of various models from my towns local dump site and all of them were up in running order after a thorough cleaning and filter replacement. One way I've found to deoderize the canister is to dump a box of baking soda in it and leave it for a few days ( WRITE A NOTE SO YOU REMEMBER ITS IN THERE AND DON'T TURN ON THE VACUUM) then dump it out wipe down the canister and the smell is gone. You can also put baking soda in a hose that smells bad, leave it, and rinse it out for bad smell removal.

eSpares sorry guys if you got me wrong, I do like your video! it's very helpful, simple and easy, step by step guide how to if you don't know. I'm rather moaning about the manufacturer, Dyson should think about easy ways to clean your alliances, but instead everything they do is designed to be repaired and cleaned by professional service only. Do you have any idea how hard is to replace post motor filter on dc39? it's a joke! Anyway, thanks for your video, keep doing what you are doing as you probably help a lot of people 😉

Hi, wondering if you could help me with my problem. I have a black & decker dustbuster flexi 12v and recently I rinsed the filter and didnt let it dry completely before putting it back into the unit. Few days later when I turn it on, the fan would blow a foul wet smelling odor. I removed the filter and soaked it in soap water but somehow the odor seeped into the motor and fan part. Is there a way for me to get rid of the odor from said motor and fan? Would be grateful if you have any solutions.

There are a number of products available to fragrance the air flow from a vacuum like these: www.espares.co.uk/search?SearchTerm=vacuum%20air%20freshener However in this case you may have introduced mould and spores that will now be blown out of the motor when used. For that reason I would look for would be a product specifically to remove mould and bacteria and vacuum up the product in an open outside area. I am thinking something like a dry carpet cleaning powder or similar.

eSpares Could I just vacuum up baking soda and leave it in the filters? Would it absorb and neutralize the odor?

I was considering suggesting this. The honest answer is I do not know. Baking soda may be corrosive and damage the motor but if you consider the appliance is not useable you have nothing to lose. I would certainly rather risk damaging a vacuum rather than the health of my family from mould spores in the air from a contaminated machine.

How do you recommend letting the hose dry? I know the nasty smell my vacuum is making is coming from the hose but since it has ridges(so that it can stretch) its not drying properly and the smell is getting worse. Any tips?

Hi Destiny Burton, if you leave it long enough it will dry completely, try it in a warm environment in your house and leave for a couple of hours or overnight.

Hi deep thinker, thank you for your post and that's a new one, we don't think that's what they were intended for and may do some harm as they normally dissolve inside the washing machine.

Hi, we did not cover cleaning the cyclone but if you read the other comments you would have seen we posted 'Daconthocon78' comment about using a garden hose to clean this. Obviously if wetting to clean it you must ensure it is completely dry before use by draining and leaving to stand in a warm environment.
