Yeah well... I guess globalization is only okay if it helps global companies. We are mistaken if we believe the propaganda of globalization being something for the benefit of everybody. +cinemar Sorry to disappoint you, but English is a Germanic language. Latin is the root language of Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese. While English does contain words from latin and french, it's mostly just borrowed words, not a direct linguistic connection.
Jeff lock English is not really a Germanic nor romance language any more.. It's a pretty even split between its original Germanic roots and introduced french mechanics and words.

Isn't "Cultural Appropriation" just people from two cultures sharing good ideas, concepts, products and customs? Shouldn't that be the goal?! Joefest99 Hi, I can't speak for every culture but there is a difference between Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Misappropriation. Cultural Misappropriation happens when people ignorantly exploit and disrespect highly respectable cultural status/religious items or practices/history of oppression. Cultural Appropriation happens everyday and is inspiration from other cultures to learn and grow together.

Appropiation is taking from another culture without giving credit or allowing the initial culture to benefit, an example would be when white artists sample style, language, music from black artists and profit as though it was their original intellectual property. Their is no "sharing," just stealing. More often due to their whiteness they profit even more than the original artist who often are scrutinized for exhibiting the same style, language, music etc.

The entire PC movement isn't about gaining respect....it's about controlling what others do. Have you noticed that what is or isn't PC changes? Woke was not appropriated from the black community!! That is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. The popularity grew in the hippie movement and has recently been revived by people in the TRUTHER MOVEMENT!! Has nothing to do with race what so ever.
This feels so forced, I thought it was tongue in cheek at first... I guess it's cool that people are trying to bridge their perceived divide of race/gender/etc, but it's also kind of racist/sexist/manipulative to assume there is a divide. There's a difference between fighting for equity/equality & creating divisive thoughts (so they'll perceive a divide) that allows people to ego trip about how great they are for pointing out/creating said divide. I guess people can't tell the difference anymore.

In other words it mean you are “awake” to what’s going on around you in the world/government , especially to the minority communities, and you try to educate yourself and others around you to do better. Example- in the matrix when neo woke up and saw the real world around him.

Will you please stop trying to turn Steve Smith into a valid commentator. He consistently gets confused during his comments/rants. Never communicates an intelligent thought, and when him and Irvin get all riled up nobody can really understand what they are trying to say and it end up with a very uncomfortable silence at the end. Woke is a term meant to diminish one's opinion because of their color and/or ethnicity and assumed lack of experience and/or capacity for empathy. You can debate whether that's racist. I already woke to it being so.

I agree with your point of view, Wednesday, but I also hate the phrase, "get woke" or any incarnation there within. Especially when used as a command, as you just used it. Telling someone to become enlightened to modern trends using horrific grammar is the definition of irony.
The word "woke" in the context of "get woke" is used as an adjective and therefore grammatically correct. It's a sign of high intellect to be able to adjust to changing times.
Interesting point of view. Arrogant, but interesting. I come from the point of view that different words mean different things. Woke, for instance, is already a word with a meaning. If the phrase was "get awakened" I wouldn't have a problem with it. AGAIN... I understand and agree with the sentiment. I just think there is a more intelligent and clear way to say it. If you want to fight with someone, fight with someone who disagrees with the sentiment, not the terminology.
