Just as interesting, if not more to me is questioning and trying to understand what playing “in” actually means? The more I explore that thought through practice the less clear it has become for me. chords have common tones, inversions, extensions, alterations, and analogues. Sometimes the difference is just in perspective, context, or harmonic function. Trying to transcribe and interpret from ear as an amateur has highlighted that ambiguity. Is it a minor 6 or a m7b5? Is it a Maj6 or a minor7? Diminished or b7b9? All notes are in relation with each other. It can all be relative, and I find that beautiful!

I am having a lot of fun lately with upper structures trying a lot of stuff. When i thought about F#add4/C7 i was like oh shit i guess it doesnt work because of that b netural, now that video felt like this just do it meme😂. I guess if you say its ok to have one note not working because the rest of the notes are cool it gives you so many more options to work with like even Bmajadd2 over C7. Great lesson 🙏

On Brad Mehldau's solo on Solar, I think on Art of the Trio 4, I'm pretty sure that on at least two different choruses, on the Eb maj chord he plays an E natural major arpeggio, (or part of it). I used to think, wt... was that? For some reason it reminded me of a calliope. Anyone know what I'm talking about, or should I not believe my ears?
