Welcome to Bricksculpt and thank you for watching. This video discusses a LEGO piece that is completely new to me piece 79846. I have done some experimenting with this piece and need help knowing how to maximize its potential. Please let me know below in the comments what your favorite ways to use this piece are and maybe we can learn a few things from each other. If you have any questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks for your help and support!

And this is how Lego uses it, basically: To make a model look like it has a joint, but not bother to actually give it one. I'd much rather they'd make the equivalent of the Technic joints 47455/48170 and 44225/80563, but with the combined dimensions as this one has, and so easier compatible with system pieces.

From what I've figured out, it works for holding angles on things that regular hinges, along with clips and bars, can't, I've used it for wing bends, along with the flat hinge plates so they still pose, it gives them curve, where if I used regular hinges, they'd fall flat. Another thing they can be used for is small flares and details on larger builds. Some examples are heels, spurs, and claws, made by using them on their sides. The issue IS how they connect, for how I build, they're good for angles that regular hinges won't hold, because the hinge is too weak, or the build is too heavy. What I'm saying is how they're presented, is how they're meant to be used, for stability. I can further explain if it's asked of me.

the new mech system isnt a replacement, its aimed at a younger age range than Bionicle and Hero Factory. and younger kids want less articulation, not more. they want to be able to place their mechs down and have them stay upright. its frustrating when they have to mess with knee joints to achieve that. the superhero "construction figures" that lego has released recently are much more of a continuation of bionicle and hero factory, and those sets DO have knee and arm joints.

I think that the ability for rotation is by far the most interesting thing about this. If you arrange these to form an octagon and then find a way to throw a separate octagonal panel over the center like you did in the second vid about 15706, maybe it could be used as some kind of a weird door that hinges about one of the circular spots, kind of like a bank vault style entrance or a sci-fi thing? Also, you could mount it to the 15706 platform using the building techniques there and make some weird, varied tower geometry, though that assembly would probably only lead to more questions than answers. Another thing is that it might be interesting to make a tower using these and leave one layer in the middle connected only by a 2x2 round (although the rest of the structure would need some kind of additional support) so that you have a cool effect where you can at any time swing a "cross section" away and look at some inside part of a building that'd usually be hidden unless you disassembled it.

2:53 I really think that having a way to partially move studs to misalign them is a neat feature. No idea what to do with that tho :D

I thought the same thing. But yeah good luck figuring out a use for it.

Would hinge pieces fix any of the attachment issues between these parts? I only have 4 and all of them are in the legs of my Thanos and War Machine mechs, which I wish still used movable knee pieces even if this piece helps the legs look a uniform color

I will have to try hinges with it thanks!

Does the spacing work if you alternate left bend and right bend(zigzag shape)? If you put 2 side by side mirrored(make a fat Y shape) does that make using them better?
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 3 дня назад
No, I tried it and it makes for a weird spacing.

I might own one of those pieces that I will find in the large amount I have been obsessively thrifting. From here I can see 2 boxes with 32 liters of unsorted lego each. The problem is that there is a seemingly infinite amount of lego in my nearest thrift store, and every time I see lego, I can't stop myself from buying it...

It could make for an interesting roof top by horizontally stacking it onto a building, but then it still isn’t really “clicking” anywhere except with gravity since I imagine that stud connection via snot would be near impossible on that angle. Plus I’m pretty sure I’ve only ever seen it in gray, which is a tad dull for any building

I think this could make a very good tower. Take your octogon, stack a few ontop. Then put tiles and rotate the assembly. Rinse and repeat. Good luck tapering it in however.
@bricksculpt

Yeah that would work well.

That dark grey octagon looks metal, too bad you cannot attach anything to it besides make a technic scaffolding.

The most interesting place I've seen this piece used is in The Legend of Zelda 77092 Great Deku Tree where it's acts as the main support for one of the large roots at the front of the Breath of the Wild version of the tree. So organic structures like trees or even rock arches could make use of the piece.

you could make a 45 degree log fort wall with this, since you can fill it with 2x2 rounds without any gaps (assuming a technic axle or something to attach one on the corner) it would still be a pain to mount on the base plate, of course, there's got to be a way to be mitigate that somehow
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 4 дня назад
That would be cool.
@screambmachine
@screambmachine 4 дня назад
i guess you only need 2 rings of these as top and bottom for a tower, the rest is filled with bricks and round 2x2s with axles top and bottom. maybe1 or 2 more rings for stability in the middle
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 4 дня назад
Yeah this could be cool!
@Reegeed

I think tower walls would look good on these. 8 straight walls connected by rounded pieces. Other connection can be made with pocket connector since it can slide.
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 3 дня назад
Yeah that would be cool

Can you put a technic axle through the central hole? If so, you could maybe stack a few atop each other at different angles?
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 3 дня назад
It's a sloppy fit with a technic pin but the axel fits well.
@keithtwombley
@keithtwombley 2 дня назад
what about attaching via axles theough the corner hole? do those line up with anything technic or system?

Like with the other piece the solution here seems to be to free yourself from the grid. Not every part was made with conformity to a base plate in mind.
@bricksculpt
@bricksculpt 4 дня назад
Yes I agree the piece doesn't play well with the grid which will limit it's uses for sure. I'm convinced there is still good uses for it out there!
