📼Video Summary:
The Magic Cube was invented by Ernő Rubik in 1974. Then in the 1980s it was renamed to the Rubik's Cube. The Speed Cube is a special version of the Rubik's Cube that is meant to be solved very quickly. Those that try to solve it quickly are called "Speed Cubers". They use tricks like Corner Cutting and Algorithms to eliminate time. The most popular method for solving the cube is CFOP which has four steps: Cross, F2L (First 2 Layers), OLL (Orientation of Last Layer), and PLL (Permutation of Last Layer). Other methods for solving the cube are Roux, ZZ, and Petrus. Inside the speed cube you'll find the core made up of six center pieces, and then the twenty "cubies" which consist of 12 edge pieces and 8 corner pieces. The Tension System is made of 6 springs inside the Center pieces. Some versions of the cube magnets inside the core - using MagLev technology. Lots of different brands of speed cubes - get yours at SpeedCubeShop.com

I'm an old school speedcuber and one inaccuracy is that Rubik's brand cubes have a near identical spring tension system in their core that can be adjusted in the same way. Loosening it to allow corner cutting was common. Filing down the spring ends and smoothing the screw threads were also common mods. I am amazed by all the new innovations! The "MagLev" spring was totally my idea like 20 years ago (and probably other people's too), but I never really had the resources to prototype it. This is the first I've heard of it! Besides the friction advantages, the force is now quadratic with distance instead of linear which I thought would have real advantages! Off to look into it more now...

Nice video! I myself learned solving one of those with the LBL (Layer by Layer) technique around 15 years ago. you start out the same as here, but on the last layer, you start by making a yellow cross. Then, you bring the cross in the right position, so that only the edge pieces are random. You then bring the edge pieces in the right place and at the end, you just finish by orienting the edge pieces correctly. It is not the fastest method, but it only requires to learn 7 algorithms, so it is easier if you don't wanna learn a s**t ton of algorithms. Always good fun for impressing friends and also not too hard to learn.
@JaredOwen
@JaredOwen 10 месяцев назад
I wanted to keep things simple because most people that watch these videos are going to be "non-cubers" - hopefully I found the right balance!
@blooberry999
@blooberry999 10 месяцев назад
this is a good method for beginners but if you want to be faster then you should work on knowing full oll and full pll aswell as advanced cross and f2l full pll is about 21 algorithms but they are all easy to remember full oll is 57 algorithms which makes it harder to learn out of the two a good way to learn these algorithms is by remembering patterns in the algorithms such as triggers or parts of other algorithms

Research is clearly thorough, as a speed cuber I enjoy the little additions here and there of intricate details, it really brings the video together. Already buy from SCS so no need to worry, seeing how the corner piece was modelled and how on the face of the piece it was fully square and not rounded, which helps to not let the corer twist, can't even begin to imagine how you model those details let alone an the opera house, would love to see a part 2 covering some other things like core magnets, piece patterns and some other cool systems but if not that was still a great video. You make such good videos and you have a very suitable educational structure to it. I would be interested to see a making-of video from you where you show how you create your animations

Speedcubing is a rather niche hobby that is somewhat inaccessible to cover for presenters outside of the hobby niche (theres a right and wrong way to refer to things, etc, and the community is really selective about getting these things right). A lot of educators and videos produced for people outside this bubble end up getting information wrong or feeling badly researched, but not this, Im extremely impressed! I really commend your work on this video, im actually think it is one of the best introductions for people looking to learn more about the Rubiks Cube and cubing / speedcubing as a whole!

My 5yo son (and I) are mesmerized by your videos… watch at bedtime. Suggestion: Gondola ski-lift… how the gondolas slow down and space close together to load and unload. Thanks for your work!
