Men, your video is GREAT, thanks for publishing it. I have a 2013 Porsche 911 and have changed the Wahler thermostat 3 TIMES. The recurrent problem is that it gets stucked in the oppened position. This is really driving me crazy. From your video, I guess that the problem is related to THE SENSOR and not the thermostat and I need to address that. The funny thing is that I am not getting any faulty messages on the computer... What do you recommend? THANKS !!!!!!!!!

The reason why it’s hard to make it hot enough is because there’s no pressure.On vehicles we are using the pressure cap to raise the boiling point.To substitute the radiator cap it will be similar to use a pressure cooker.Which could be hard to do.Just I thought this could help.Otherwise thank you 🙏🏿 so much great information.

Philip, I thank you again for publishing this video! I have a question that ONLY YOU can answer. What do you think could cause a thermostat to get damaged after just 500 kms of use? I have changed the one in my car a couple of times and they keep failing... Evidently, there is some element which is causing them to fail. Porsche says that it is a faulty coolant valve... does this make sense to you? PLEASE RESPOND, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE TO SOLVE THIS. Thanks!!!

Very informative .. i coudnt understand why my truck overheat buzzer went ON on hilly areas..despite trying all the overhauls.. radiator clean,new coolant ,thermostat change.. it has a traditional thermostat

So in short say if you ran a constant 12V to a mapped thermostat it would allow for cooler running?

Hello sir, i just want to ask what happened if the thermostat is stock closed? The fan is still works when the thermostat is fail???? Tnx

For ohms, given that 15ohms is normal, what if the old one has lower than 15ohms, say 4ohms, or higher, say 21 ohms? Are there two different explanations for those circumstances, or does that just mean the heating element is faulty regardless? I ask because this would help others with heating element problem's more than you mentioned.

if the resistance deviates as much as you cited, then the unit is faulty. I would allow for a 10% tolerance but more than that i would consider it faulty.

If MAP function on ThermoS not working or gone faulty..... the traditional wax element will still work but not pro actively, or intelligently. GOT IT, cheers.... > however my new MAHLE Thermo very much stays well closed on the car and boils the car obviously.... and in boiling water test in a pan likewise, they do not open at all. I may add I did not have on a 12v source though, didn't know, new to MAP based Thermostats , this video helped enormously !!!! I was presuming my coolant circuit itself is faulty, wiring, relay or fuse, temp sensor, or other, hence why either of my new thermostats won't open at all...... But, given you said a MAP thermo part faulty will still OPEN on wax element traditionally , and mine doesn't on car or in boiling pan so I'm totally stumped. If you have any idea be great..... I thought I had isolated equipment or thermoS itself on an OHMS test and car does not boil when thermostat housing on car with old thermostat removed, straight through pipe thermoS less.... The car then does not boil up then, runs ok 20k does not overheat like when do 2k with closed status Thermo.... My issue is ThermoS is one way or another staying stuck closed !!!! MANY THANKS if know what I may have got wrong in my head

Hey dan i think i have the same problem i changed my thermostat twice and it doesn’t open however the temperature is normal but it doesn’t open and the fan stay work on lowest speed, any advice 🙏🏻

So, if you could help be amazing, I too have a Mahle and have watched same Mahle video, yours is miles better, have no idea thermo's were electronically controlled..... I think I've a circuit issue, thermoS not working whatsoever !!! I've a car bought 2 new Thermo, correct OEM, both checked stay closed on the car, cold pipes likewise, car pressurises thermoS is closed , but off the car they open normally. My guess is circuit faulty, maybe relay been told, what would you suggest thanks, I'm in a permenent ThermoS closed status..... My scanner showed car rad temp at 119c , fan also only kicks in at 110c, all very odd, I'm no mechanic, I'm learning on the go ( I've belatedly bought coolant temp sensor x2 to exchange and if after this the fan still kicks in 110c not 98c and new Mahle MAP ThermoS stays closed I'm stumped ).... car went in for just an oil leak garage, ended up having a ThermoS, Water pump & New header tank..... Totally bamboozled why , was told water pump problem...... This became a pressure cooker and don't want garage do a head gasket dissent need.... I'm learning so want to work it out myself !!!!!! This is definitely not a head gasket, it was well driven prior to suspect crankcase oil leak...

How did you figured out that the old one was broken? Any fault recorded?

there was an error when i scanned with INPA on this BMW
@CosminRotaru
@CosminRotaru 3 года назад
@@ecologicaltime thanks! I have the small 1.6 N13 on a F30. No error. It takes 15-20 minuets (city driving) to get to around 80 and then it's stuck there. If I drive a bit sportier I can get it to 90, but that's about it. No errors (Insta+). Very interesting test with the hot water . I was thinking that maybe the output for the heater circuit might be stuck closed in the ECU, keeping the thermostat open at all times. But from your experiment it looks like it doesn't give enough heat to open the thermostat in cold water. So if I get a warm hose between the thermostat and radiator at low temps (let's say under 50-60 degrees) I can safely assume the thermostat is mechanically stuck open, right?
@ecologicaltime

Sounds like its faulty and staying open partially as a fail safe.

Would the map Cooling thermostat make the car smoke or steam out the back
@CosminRotaru
@CosminRotaru 3 месяца назад
@@user-mu1rw1qr2u Most likely if the engine overheats. (leading to blown head-gasket.. ). If it is stuck open is not ok either - if the engine doesn't get to operating temperature you get, for starters, an oil that is contaminated faster than usually (from water that never evaporates, for example)

I truly truly believe and think this is the most unnecessary, unneeded and crazy component that the auto industry added on already complicated and unrealiable modern vehicles. We need to stop this madness. Modern engineers create problems than solutions in the name of innovation. Even jet turbine aircraft engineers had not gone this crazy. I don't buy this man explanation. A thermostat does need an electronic switch. We have gone bananas. There goes the most inexpensive engine part ever going up the graph on the prizing market index. The shareholders wants profits at all costs. Obviously there will be paid videos providing a perfect explanation why you need this piece of technology.

I agree with you fam. I am currently working on a 2013 Chevy Sonic LT. It has an electronic thermostat for what I don't know. It is not efficient. This garbage is throwing code P00B7 for insufficient coolant flow. I have replaced every part dealing with the coolant system, and it still throws this code. I drive to work a 2003 Lexus es300. My temp guage started fluctuating. I removed the old thermostat and tested it inhot water, it didn't open, I replaced it. Car has been running fine every since. Meanwhile, on this Sonic/Cruz, the struggle is own going. Crazy how these cars a put together.
