A quote from my daughter, probably 5 years ago when she was 9, sums it up perfectly. "Mom, drawing helps me get out of my outer body and in to my inner body." As a lifelong artist myself, I told her I couldn't have put it better myself.
Art Therapy is brilliant.....I've been working as a Transpersonal Art therapist for the past 12 or so years with great success with my clients. I can honestly say that for me, Art has saved my life.....art has been a thread throughout my entire life and I am truly grateful for that.........................and being an artist is not a prerequisite what so ever....that is not the point at all as you pointed out....
@@URchrostiano - good question - it is a years-long degree to study it properly and you must already have some basic training in some of the required skills. The video is really rather superficial.
"Art washes away from the soul, the dusts of everyday life." That hit me, I'm just 18 and since I was a kid, I'm an art enthusiast, and I want to share how art help me cope with life. Thank you!
It makes me sad thinking about how everyone of them put their mom or dad really close to the center and I know I wouldn't put my parents on the painting at all. I feel really sad about my life and childhood after watching your videos.
Luka3012941 I know....parents aren't perfect because there Human...and flawed like us...it's ok to feel that way...your past doesn't define your future....so be happy because you have the power to make your future bright 😊
I can relate to you I wouldn't put my parents at all in the center as well. From what I learned it's best to take care and respect yourself do what you can to make it better for yourself now. Not always easy one step at a time.
I'm sorry that's the case in your life, same with mine, have you thought about doing this sort of thing and just seeing/feeling where you want to put the colours
I must point out the potential positive effect of the art therapist supporting and connecting with the painters. And, the benefit of the make up artist's attention pampering them before hand, and the camera operators focusing on them, etc. Art is amazing, but so is human attention.
Amy Hautman Bates I agree, but there's a possible negative effect for that when it comes to introverted people or those with social anxiety. Even so, I guess that'd be a minority.
It's a viscous circle , into giving them repeative roles of keep drawling. time eaters. He could be working on his finances, career and relationship. Instead of keep talking about his relationship problems to theapist everyday art itself a trigger. 🤔
Does making art make you happier? This week on Science of Happiness, Julian investigates positive art therapy with a special guest. Watch the bonus episode here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j_7qe-LoCQo.html
can you guys bring Julian back please, and do science of something. Those experiments where awsome I borrowed some of them and tested them with my youth group from church. the results where amazing :)))
I have been struggling with depression for many years. There are 4 people/things that have helped me with this journey, God(Jesus Christ ) he talks about watching what and how we think about and what we focus on, art and being creative (I did something positive with my time ) BTW sharing The art as random gifts gives the person and me a great feeling . Good friends and family (or people who care for real), and exercise if your doctor says you can.
Julian and the crew of Soul Pancake and all the people working on this "The Science of Happiness" project, Thank you! You guys are like my online best friends who cheer me up at the hardest times. Thank you a lot for making these videos, you guys have no idea, how much it means to me. Love you all
I can never watch an episode of Science of Happiness without crying... Ohmygosh.. I love this. Art really does make you happy. That's why so many do it when they're depressed, makes them feel better.
The woman breaking down about how much she loves her grandma and their connection to art warms me up. I get that same way thinking about doing puzzles with mine❤
Hi! Do you think creating things like handmade cards, coloring stamped images or other kind of crafts can be considered art too? I'm convinced crafting is such a good tool for mental health, it has personally helped me out of mental illness, but I don't know if it can also be considered art therapy or not.
There is often argument about whether something is art or craft with craft seeming to represent something less valuable to many. I on the other hand dont feel the labels or strict adherence to formal definitions is necessary.. creative pursuit is creative pursuit and vital for one’s well being. Separating creative pursuits to me is like saying a painting that is a photographic representation is are but an abstract painting is not. Go ahead and enjoy ykur card making- i do, and it is a necessary aspect of my wellbeing!
Hi I think any kind of creativity is a form of art like you creating cards and crafts is like drawing a picture but not on a paper but from your hands. You are designing something.I cope with my mental health through cooking,I tried art but I failed. But somehow the world of culinary made me calm and it was theraputic.I become happy when somebody enjoys the meals I make. Like that way whoever is watching you create something will be happy and it will bring you a smile also.🥰🥰
Of course! Art is just making something that wasn’t there before. Crafting and creating is not only GOOD for mental health, it is ESSENTIAL for mental health :)
I've been making art for as long as i can remember. It's my number one love. I wish all people at least doodled sometimes...it really is like meditation and good for self observation
I am happy that you guys did this. I just bumped into it and what a happy accident (pun intended). I particularly like the "science of gratitude" video. I want your jobs! What a cool series. Keep servin' up awesome, griddle-fresh, Soul Pancakes!
So love this. Sharing with my peeps! I have taught art for many years, and although I am not a "Therapist," I've witnessed so many examples of souls laid bare from just making some art.
art is just one escape for your mind out of many things, could be reading , gaming, hunting, or whatever time alone a person needs...from normal life....as you get older you find yourself harder pressed to do the things that make you relax most
I always fall into a different set of mind whenever I am drawing or painting. I encourage everybody else to try something artistic. =) The only rule is not to be afraid to fail. There is no failing in art
This channel is my total favorite! But I must stop watching it at work. Seriously. People pass by and see me tearing up. They must think I'm emotionally unstable! LOL. Little do they know, you keep me sane and happy, Soul Pancake!
I am dance therapist and did art therapy for years. Now I am sick and I do dance therapy and art therapy on myself That is works! It is a really interesting method to be on both side of a therapeutic relation! Self help therapy
This makes me so happy! I love you, SoulPancake, for taking the time to do something like this. Art is such a powerful thing, and everyone should make more of it!!!
This is fascinating! It is touching to see how art and paintings helps with expression and guide oneself into their inner thinking which they might have not noticed, and the process leads to increasing happiness. Would it be possible to have the list of testing happiness level at the beginning of the video? It would help so much on understanding more deeply about the experiment. Thanks in advance.
I love your work Julian!... your videos are sooooo great and touching! I feel blessed whenever I watch one. My granddaughter and I love to paint and draw together... Thank you for sharing such tremendously beautiful thoughts!
I know first hand that art works. I use my illustrative creativity to create two illustrations a day which inspire me and inspire others. I post them throughout social media. The creativity makes me happy, the bonus is it makes others happy too. Curious? Just Google What my Coffee says to me or What my Tea says to me. Cheers SoulPancake great video!
I tried clicking on the book icon to get redirected to the source of the study and it didn't work. What exactly is the name of the study and how can I get more info? Also, where can I get the questionnaire? (I am an AT student and want to know more)
I couldn't do that exercise. After getting my degree in art, the perfectionist in me wouldn't let me attempt working with a figure that was drawn around me like that. Not after 4 years of being drilled to draw from observation and look at the relationship between figure and ground as well as the shapes our form creates. But I hope it's helping other people.
Soul pancake I love what ya do. I love the science of happiness videos. My only question. Everyone I see in these videos looks confident and happy. What happiness if you take people who are unhappy and use them? How do you apply a happiness to life when you can't seem to find it?
Art is making something that wasn’t there before. If you doodle on a piece of paper that’s art, if you make a 10m sculpture that’s art, if you sing, dance or cook that’s art. Art is in our blood and we don’t need to fear it. I am an artist helping guide people into a creativity they are comfortable with, in my case watercolour and pencil painting, and my channel is doing well as people discover the value of just doing it. No judgment, just make something.
YES!!!! Love this! We just released an episode on the healing power of art (generally), and appreciate your specific approach on the topic. Science is fun!! But science and art....funner....lol :) Thank you for sharing this.
Hang in there bud. High School is hard but eventually it ends. My son was bullied in high school and got in trouble when he'd finally had enough and pushed the bully's head onto his desk. He is now 21 and will soon be made a shift supervisor at his work. And he's happy and creative. Get a notebook and some colored pencils and start drawing and writing things that you'd like to have in your life...including peace at school. The universe will find a way for good things to come to you. Hugs.
Hey guys, Great video. Very interesting and cool. Great to see the people become so happy so easily. That study link doesn't seem to work for me. Can you post a link please? Thanks, Kevin.
Could the increase in happiness be caused by simply doing something as fun as painting? If yes, then that might be the main reason for that increase in happiness. But I still think that what you're doing is amazing, love you guys.
For more inspiration check out the documentary of the artist who did a lot of the work on Pee Wee's Playhouse . It's title is: Beauty Is Embarrassing. That guy and other artists in it have been creating art out of anything since they were kids!
Congrats !! Yvonne that’s is an amazing story , right now I’m struggling with my path career from Quality are I want to jump to writter and design, is not easy but your story inspires me
Once the art theapist realize his diagnosis. Give him a task goal. Then Tell him his triggers, then I he must implement and put them strategies into action. It's a viscous circle , into giving them repeative roles of keep drawling. When the client do this. It handicaps him more of being time eaters. He could be working on his finines, career and relationship. Instead of keep talking about his relationship problem to theapist everyday or have the art itself as a trigger. 🤔That's where they fail at as a therapist. This is where stagmi comes into existence. As a life coach my goal is to break stigmas that's from therapist doctors, family and friends.
