I have two chime mantle clocks, one plays the quarterly Westminster chime.(The other I only have counting the hour and chiming once on the half.) As any chime clock lover (including myself) knows, the purpose of the quarterly Westminster chime notes is: 4 at quarter past the hour is because 4 is 1/4 of 16, 8 at half past, because 8 is 1/2 of 16, 12 at 3/4 past the hour (in other words, quarter till the next hour), because 12 is 3/4 of 16, and finally all 16 notes on the hour, because the hour is up, followed by the count of the new, or next hour.

nope, the tower runs by gravity and needs someone to wind it up so this meme is a straight no.

He doesn't do it by himself. He's one of 3 clock maintainers, they go up together. They take turns winding it for a few minutes at a time, so the others can rest. There are actually three weights that have to be wound up, but only the one for the going (timekeeping) train is still wound by hand. The chiming and striking trains have motorized winding now.

Since the centre of gravity is now closer to the fulcrum, the effective length of the pendulum is shorter and therefore so is its period.

basically the length of the pendulum was "changed" by raising its center of gravity resulting in its effective length being reduced and therefore, the time required for the pendulum to perform a full swing is changed.

118dB is plausible for a passenger jet takeoff heard from a realistic distance (say 60+ metres). A military jet taking off from a carrier deck, where personnel have to be much closer, is around 130-140dB, which is why ear protectors are mandatory.
