I'm just going to say this: you're soooo smart. So well researched, so intelligent... I'm always impressed by the depth of the science that you distill for us in such a helpful and cogent way. The beauty community needs more of this. Thank you, Abbey. ❤️
Completely agree! I love how much she tries to focus on the actual science rather than hearsay and personal opinions. I love hearing her thoughts but it’s really nice to hear someone talk about the science behind products too.
This is soooo true and such a kind comment to make. I think - to be honest - being called smart/intelligent is the best compliment and that's definitely what Abbey is. She gives informed, honest and very unbiased opinion based in science. That's the best channel for beauty I know and I love her content.
Your channel is EXACTLY what I’ve been looking for! The science of these products and why they work and don’t work, most product reviews are “yes, it did what the commercial said it would” but that on the surface as we know doesn’t really mean anything as someone that’s trying to find a reliable product doing more than just surface level benefits. All hair is different and it’s so nice that your channel exists and I can come here for product advice :’) my stylist is excellent but she doesn’t have time to try a bunch of different products & explain it all to me unfortunately hahah. Thank you! ❤️
Can’t wait for the k18 review. Been curious about that one. But i purchased the redken leave in recently, just waiting to go through some of my shampoo/conditioner stock before i purchase the corresponding set for it!
I've been using the Redken ABC (acidic bonding concentrate) line and love it, but my hair way very over processed so the shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in weren't doing enough repairing although they made my hair feel great. i have recently tried K18 leave-in mask and i am blown away by the result after 1 use, i haven't even made it to my next wash day yet and my hair feels seriously reconstructed. i would love to know more about the product; this is the first video of yours i've seen but it was a great video, i don't feel like you're trying to sell products and i love that you try the products and all your information is so detailed, very helpful.
I used Olaplex for years and recently starting using K18 and I'm blown away with how it actually is making a difference in my hair. I look forward to seeing your comparison of the two.
I have been using the k18 for quite some time now but I realized whenever i stop using it, my hair isnt in such great shape so this defies the whole longlasting effect they are promoting.. Has anyone else been experiencing this?
THANK YOU! Love your channel!so much more informative than most! Most youtubers or influencers just repeat what the brand tells them and are focused on selling and getting a commission!
Beautiful to see your deep dive into into the ingredients. Best video of my week. Great to see a smart + beauty powerhouse, who never plays dumb, pronounces the hard words correctly and relays real info we need.
I love your channel!! I really enjoy the content and that you back it up with research! I'm excited for a k18 review. I've watched your Korean skincare video and would love to see a hair care one from Stylevana sometime (:
Thank you, this video was very helpful. I've purchased and used most of these products. It's frustrating that my salon reps. can't describe the science behind the products. This was a great reminder that I'm the one that needs to understand and explain the benefits
I have been bleaching my hair for years. Just recently started using that Redken line. I absolutely love the way it makes my hair feel! It's so silky and buttery. The lamellar water is the biggest game changer. I need to no more about your midlightings/baby lights! I tried a root shadow and found it too dark. I like the look of bleached blonde, but I want some dimension. I'm obsessed with your hair!
Not sure if this helps but I've been using k18 weekly and my hair has made such a noticeable improvement. I alternate it with olaplex 8, which I also love, but since adding k18 I have really noticed my bleached hair has started to look like normal again. Edit: my hairdresser said that olaplex is great for damage during bleaching but k18 is great for fixing/preventing damage from heat 🤷♀️
Agree with the others here. I've been using olaplex no.3 and liking it so far but I'd definitely love to hear your thoughts in comparison to k18. Another great video!
I found your channel looking for a review on the new redken acidic bonding concentrate line. I bought the whole line because of you and started following you on everything! I feel like I’ve learned so much and I’m going to start trying so many of your tips and I’m so excited! Just wanted to say thank you for all the great advice and recommendations ☺️
Hey Abbey! Love the informational video. Just wanted to know, do these work primarily for damage from over processing the hair? Can these work for fine long hair that just gets breakage from every day stuff- like getting tangled or snagged in my sleep/my bags/etc?
Oh my gosh, I am so glad I found your channel! I'm 53 and have given up on improving my hair, which is in need of much help. All the info you've enlightened me to, has given much hope. Thank you! 😃
I've been using Olaplex for years and K18 for a year or so now. The combination of the two has rejuvenated my bleached hair. I tell everyone about K18 (surprised so many haven't heard about it). I'll be watching for your comparison!
I love your videos. They are so informative. I have purchased several of your recommended products and I am seeing a huge improvement in my hair finally. Thanks so much. Also I would love to see a video comparing K18 and Olaplex.
I bought the Redken acidic bond concentrate conditioner after watching your video on the line. I have virgin hair but my curls/waves have been a little dry and crunchy recently and just needed some help. I have to say it’s truly amazing! I have fine, lower density hair and it didn’t weigh my hair down at all and made it soooo bouncy! Plus the conditioner smells kinda like a B&BW Christmas candle so that was great to lol!
I’m trying O’Malley now it’s good to know it has properties to help rebuild the hair not just momentarily Thanks when I was showering today I saw bond repair on the bottle and thought I need to look into this to see if this is helping my fragile hair because I need help yesterday ! Lol thanks for your advise
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on K18! I love Olaplex just as much, both so good! GIRL you know your stuff when it comes to hair science! You'd make a great stylist!! 😊 also hair looks stunning as always! 👑 x
Thanks for this. This whole hair science is still a bit of a mystery to me despite how many videos I watch. I’d like to tone my hair at home. It gets so yellow and brassy that purple shampoos don’t make enough of a difference. I’ve tried Sally toning concoctions but would love a thought out video on this. How can we fake blondes lighten and brighten just a tad between salon treatments?
Use revolution drops that’s you put in your conditioner. Will make your hair a very pale purple for a few washes but when it rinses it’ll be platinum x
I’m new to the “bond repair” product world and I’m a little lost on where to start. I’ve got thin blonde highlighted hair, my hair dresser has told me it’s very porous. Any suggestions on what products to start with? Could you also explain how K18 & olaplaex differ from the other products?
I recently tried Inky List Peptide volumizing treatment and really like it,, it says use just twice a week but i did see under Q&A's on their website it can be used daily (Yay!) I always need volume. So I want to try the PCA BOND REPAIR as well, can both of these be used same day? OR does the PCA BOND give a Volumizing effect too? Maybe it would be good on its own. I tried K18 and it does help with frizz after blowing hair out.
@@AbbeyYung I discover so many products because of you! And I appreciate that you find generics for things too. It's helpful for those trying to stay on a budget
Ive been dying to try the new Bonding Redkin shampoo and conditiner. I dont use the oaplex shampoo and conditioner however I do use #3 and #8 and leave it in over night (which is now my fav). I dont wash my hair often enough to use the oaplex several times a week...but I have been also usin the 4 & 1 and leaving it in until I wash again. Any how would it be over kill or just not work well to use the Redkin as well for wash & cond. ????? What do you think?
I’m so glad I found your channel! I’m (now) using a filter in my shower and a lot of products you’ve recommended. I used the Olaplex after the ACV by DPhue and noticed my hair looks broken all Over . I’ll be trying the K18 next … I’m not sure if using Olaplex after Acv was a misstep on my end or if it was solely Olaplex no 3 … :-(
Hi Abbey ❤, Another great video 📹👍! I was interested in the Redkin range through your recommendations 😀. One question that I did want to ask you! How long was it before you seen a difference in your hair for you to go onto using these products and loving them? Have a great weekend lovey 💕.
I have colored treated hair. I use to be brown/black hair now I am mostly blonde I have thought about trying out the redken acidic bonding shampoo and conditioner and also the olaplex bonding smoother do you think this combo would good?
Curious what you think of Joico defy damage line. The Spray is sprayed onto the hair before you put the bleach on. It has some good reviews some bad 🤷♀️
Great content. Very helpful. Abbey u r soooo articulate and intelligent not to mention ur hair is beautiful. I plan on purchasing the Redken Acidic bonding concentrate. Thank u
Hi Abbey, thank you so much for such an informative video and oh my goodness you are so knowledgable! I am really stuck with which product would be the best.. ultimately i want a product that can seal split ends together permanently and i thought that was olaplex but there seem to be so many more that you mentioned too! out of all of them would you recommend one in particular that is proven and scientifically lives up to this claim? Thanks so much!
I would need to watch this several times to really absorb all this info. I have add so it wasn't all retained. Very informative . I was wowed. Better than everything i read on Google.
Interesting. I was curious what you think about olaplexes claims because we never got to talking about the disulfate bonds and how those might be repaired. I will look into getting some low pH hair care though
I’ve been using olaplex 06 and I’m not sure if I like it. I have olaplex 03 and I use it once a week or every 2 weeks. I think my hairstylist used redken on me, but when I washed my hair at home the texture of my hair changed 😆 I’m gonna try the travel size first
I think I have protein buildup but I am not quite sure. I’ve been using olaplex n.4 & 5 for awhile now and just this month my hair has been progressively getting more dry and brittle and unmanageable. I’m not really sure what I should do next.
I have fine, dry and very breakable hair. I have been told by the latest hair dresser that I need Hydration instead of damage repair treatments, but is it not really better now. I had an eye on the Amika line but am really afraid that it won´t work either :/
Hey actually I’m a total rookie in the hair game and without proper prior research got smoothening done on my hair an year back and now been facing excessive hairfall can you please tell me if the inkey list treatment work for my concerns because I’ve never bleached my hair it’s just the post smoothed troubles that’s concerning me
I have been using the leave-in Redken treatment (white bottle) and absolutely LOVE it! It doesn't leave a sticky feeling but I am heavy handed and it is possible to over do it, and then you get slightly crunchy hair. So I use two chick pea size doses )I have thin/fine but long hair) and it has really helped. I wonder if I migt get the Conditioner of this line but it might be too heavy for my fine hair. I also have tried the Proten Extreme blue bottle range for breakage and the shampoo is super, the mask made the shower surface slippers and nearly fell over but my hair seems to like it! The Redken pink bottle range of Volume Injection gave me a bit of an itchy scalp and the conditioner is not very helpful and knotted my hair loads. There you have it! Redken is great!
I just came home from a huuuge bleaching session on my already f**** hair and we used K18 mask AND I tell you THIS is a game changer!!!!!!!! Crazy that my hair feels more healthy after bleaching than before ! I HIGHLY recommend the K18 leavin in mask
Yes- please let us know what you think of K18 vs Olaplex! I have tried both, and it's so hard to determine which product is best for the damage I have on my ends.
I have used olaplex 2x since damaging my hair, I've used it correctly according to the label and RU-vid but I don't see much of a difference in my damaged hair. If I'm not seeing a result is it still benefitting my hair? Damage is from bleaching, I've now grown out about 4inches of healthy hair and have cut a lot of the damaged hair off so just above shoulder length hair now to also help Damage. I guess is olaplex still helping if there's not obvious noticeable results?
Lots of info here, can you say whether these products actually repair or do they only work as long as you use them? If you stop using them after a while, does the hair start to break off?
Love this video! So i finally bought the hair food brand. I try to stay away from silicones in my conditioner just because I use so many in my leave ins. The conditioner has silicone quaternium-26. For some reason I heard quat in my head from this video but now rewatching.. I believe I heard it wrong. Any clue if this has anything to do with bond building? ♥️
The abbreviation is quat among formulators, you heard that right somewhere. It’s not a bond builder, but smooths and helps other silicones adhere to the hair shaft.
i have a ton of the olaplex line i got from my job (including olaplex no 2) but now everyone is talking about k18 so im really curious which one is better bc my hair is very damaged at the moment
The way you take the time to explain the science behind these things is great and you do a fantastic job overall but I do want to make one slight correction that peptides are short chains of amino acids and peptide bonds string together peptides into polypeptides. What you said was really close but a little off so I just wanted to point that out not that it really makes a huge difference though in what you’re saying :) again thank you for taking the time to go into the science, hardly anyone ever does so it’s really refreshing when someone actually does
Hi Abbey love your videos! Do you think it would be possible for you to compare It's a 10 leave in spray and Pureology color fanatic multi-tasking leave-in spray? Both are really hyped and have been recommended to me and I want to make sure I get the right one because they are both pretty pricy. Thank you for all your hard work on all these informative videos you've transformed my hair!! :))
@Anya I use Pureolology. It is a good leave in conditioner. Lightweight, does not leave your hair feeling heavy, hair is soft. Remember if using heat, you must still use a thermal spray/ gel etc to protect from blow dryer or flat iron etc
Given what you know now, as this is an older video, would you recommend a bond repair system to someone who's hair isn't damaged by bleach? My hair is very fine and thin and prone to breakage. I'm debating on whether I should try a bond repair system, or hope that the minoxidil will eventually do the job on its on.
I recently purchased Olaplex shampoo after Dr. Sam mentioned using it in her recent empties video. I've not tried it yet. I did try Olaplex 3 but I don't have patience for masks that have to be rinsed out after 10 minutes.
Do these products only help repair your current hair or do they do anything to help stimulate the actual hair follicles that may not be currently producing much hair?
I love the inkey list spray, but I notice cause me build up , but yes is pretty good 👍 I have to give a try to the k18 , I used olaplex treatments every 3 months
Joico k pak revitaluxe and intense hydrator also fall into a few of these categories. They both contain quaternary ammonium compounds, cationic silicones, amino acids peptides and proteins, and are low ph (particularly intense hydrator). Edited to add I don’t believe they contain any patented disulfide bond repairing agents though such as the one found in olaplex
@Shar Roon I’ve never tried it per se, but after looking at the ingredients they look similar, main difference being both the kpak products have much higher levels of proteins, peptides and amino acids while the blond life mask has much more silicones and of many different types
What are your thoughts on the Dyson Airwrap and the L’Oréal SteamPod- are they worth the price bc they damage hair less? Currently I use a Chi to style and heat protectant before I blow dry
GIRL. I’m in DESPERATE need of help, my scalp is so oily and I have NO IDEA what shampoo to use on my hair. I need one that is good for my hair and won’t thin it. Do you know any shampoos that will help?
I’m no professional, but I used to struggle with an oily scalp and I literally just trained my hair by skipping washes every other day and now I can go almost a full week without a wash! I also double shampoo when I do wash my hair and it helps me go longer!
My hair loves lemallar tech, but hates olaplex...I’m not sure why, but everytime I use Olaplex my hair because frizzy, course feeling and unmanageable. It’s frustrating because everyone else seems to love it. I am curious to try the Redkin one since it doesn’t have proteins. Idk if because my hair is porous, protein based formulas make it brittle.
Hi! I’m certified in Olaplex and also a licensed cosmetologist and I want to help! The only Olaplex product that is SPECIFICALLY for moisture is the N°8 Moisture Mask. Also, Olaplex doesn’t contain proteins it simply is to repair the broken disulfide bonds within the hair. The underlying conditions of your hair sounds like it may be the culprit. Which Olaplex products are you using? And are you using them correctly because it is confusing? Maybe this can help? It’s important to note that when hair is healthy you just need to maintain the moisture/protein balance by implementing some occasional products into your routine. If your hair needs MOISTURE this is what it will feel like: hair is breaking and easily snaps, hair feels like straw, rough, brittle, tough, hair doesn’t stretch at all or very little and just snaps, hair breaks while it’s wet and dry, hair dries out quickly when washing, hair gets frizzy when humid If your hair needs PROTEIN this is what it will feel like: hair feels dry and frizzy, hair is very elastic and stretches, hair stretches before snapping, hair feels almost sticky or mushy when wet, doesn’t hold curl or style well, hair goes flat when humid
@@ameliarenaud4902 hmm ok, let’s see...I have the number 3 and I use it on wet hair b4 I wash it for 30 min, I also have the number 4 & 5 (the shampoo cleaned fine, the conditioner felt like it was missing a fatty component and my hair felt like it needed more). And I use the number 6 (which is the only one that I actually like...but only use every 3 showers). I used them for 6-8 months before Covid and then realized that my hair never looked right anymore. I have wavy ,frizz prone, humid sensitive hair that I blow out everytime I shower (every other day). I touch greys every 2-3 weeks, and don’t have highlights. Olaplex just makes my hair especially the middle part (as in between my roots and ends) really really frazzled. I think I will give it another go, try the number 3 on clean wet hair. If that works I will try the 4&5 with an added squirt of squalene oil for hydration. My hair used to stretch quite a bit when wet when I had blonde highlights. But it doesn’t do that now since I just touch my roots to match my natural color. Btw when I did use the Olaplex 3 it was every 10 days. Maybe I don’t have a lot of broken bonds 🤷🏻♀️
@@ameliarenaud4902 Hi is hair that takes ages to dry (naturally) when it's wet an indicator of either one please? My hair seems to fall half way between the above two descriptions. It def doesn't seem to like protein though. If I use products with Keratin in it like say a leave in spray it dries crispy and crunchy. But it is damaged and def needs something. I wish my hair could talk to me and tell me what it wants to eat :)
Good to know specifically what ingredients to look for in products so ty for listing these with each one. It's great you do so much before your videos so you can speak with experience about the items. The more informed choices we can make about what to buy hopefully the less $ we'll waste as consumers.
Thank you for the deep dive! I am using the Redken but early days. Maybe unlucky that Inky spray is really annoying. The little pump is awkward with wet hands didn’t work so pored it in another spray bottle and a huge glob of brown stuff went everywhere wasting most of it - not impressed 😮 Maybe I put some remaining liquid on with my hands 😢since you like it on my light weight curly hair
Can you do a view on hair Botox treatment? It completely transformed my hair from hagrid to something more manageable. It only lasts 3 months though and you don’t lose wave / curl pattern since it doesn’t become flat straight like a keratin treatment.
Thanks so much for another great video! I'm glad I am not alone in my curiosity of K-18! Lol. Dying to know yr thoughts on it. Have heard a lot of hairstylists raving about it.
I've tried 2. Redken and Olaplex and it did NOT work for my long, fine (but a lot of it), hair. I researched and it looks like my hair is high porosity and 2C/3A. I'm Caucasian. Both brands just seemed to coat my hair and feel heavy. I felt no difference from the other protein (keratin) type shampoos. So to me, this just feels like another gimic. These two bond shampoos also left my hair dry and frizzy. And this was from the first shampoo with each of these about a week apart. I won't be trying any other bond repair products. Total BS - for my hair at least!
Hi, doesn't the Bond Bar#3 claim to repair Ionic Bond? I don't know what Ionic Bond is. Does the Ionic Bond need treatment? Thank you for your information.
