How Does Drain Tile Work in a Field? // Bron 585 Tile Plow

This machine is a beast. Even in wet material it pulls like a tank

This job was anywhere from 3.5 to 6 feet. Due to the fact that the machine is ensuring the run has slope we aren't trenching at a constant depth. As we track back towards the main the GPS of the machine is mapping the undulations of the ground. It then creates a sloped run in the computer that falls within preset perimeters (such as min and max depth). When we engage the machine control and start to trench the machine follows the line it plotted to keep the pipe at the right elevation. I hope that all makes sense. I'm going to try and do a more in depth follow up video when the weather breaks. This day was so cold it was hard to be out there.

It is. No bedding material required. Water permeates through the soil and passes right into the pipe.

I always had the same thought. It is an odd name for plastic pipe...

It was about 18° outside that day with a pretty heavy wind chill. We were only there for an hour or so due to the cold. I'm hoping to do a follow-up video where we can get more in depth on the machine itself

@@DieselandIron I was watching farming videos and they did a drain tile repair in the field. Then I searched drain tiles to figure out how water gets through a seemingly solid plastic pipe. Your video was in the results and it was called “How does drain tile work in a field” and I figured you would put some effort into it like the Essential Craftsman or This Old House. I figured you’d do a closeup on the pipe saying “this is 6” corrugated black plastic hose. It comes in rolls of X number of feet for X price typically. It has micro slits in pipe as you can see here. It’s similar to a French drain in purpose but different in function as the drain tile is direct to ground while the French drain has aggregate and geo fabric around it to stop dirt infiltration. The drain tile has slit so small that water seeps in without massive dirt infiltration and any that does get in is small enough to flush out with the water flow. Here’s how we set up the slope of the pipe to stop it from pooling in the pipe in a fields low spot”.
