I love this vlog channel very much. Thank you Robert. I think you are right regarding the fundamental future of science. Science IS an opposite polar way of faith. In other words, Science is a kind of faith. The meaning of "faith" can also be defined as "answer some unanswerable things with some certain degrees of self-confident."

I have watched Robert Lawrence in several other debates and interview in the past years being a staunch athiest to now becoming a humble skeptic who's overwhelmed in the quest of seeking meaning and Truth. It is remarkable to notice a profound humility, and the sobriety in his tone now as against the unapologetic athiest he was in the past. His obsession with God is remarkable considering how he consistently makes deliberate effort in sincerely searching and hoping to find meaning and faith. He is a seeker getting so much closer to the truth(almost there). And he should keep probing i hope finds it as far as his sincerity is concerned. In his quest for meaning, Robert has gotten almost all the answers, the only thing left is the required "leap of faith" to get there. Robert I wish you Best of Luck! You are a prospective staunch believer👍

Yawn... Yet another facile, intellectually arrogant defense of scientism. The fact that belief in God makes the faithful “more psychologically comfortable in the world” does not, of course, have any bearing whatsoever on the veridicality of the beliefs. The existence of countless committed theists who are far more intelligent, educated, wise, and world-aware that yourself, including more than 70 percent of Nobel Prize winners in the physical sciences over the past century, should suggest to you the possibility that people of faith are not necessarily deluded, unthinking simpletons. Honest agnostics such as Stephen Jay Gould have apprehended this. Perhaps you should attempt to do so as well. Not all true knowledge is accessible via the scientific method.

If I understand you correctly, and it may be that I do not, (whatever you mean by) "faith" helps you to sleep. Would you agree that there is very little point speaking of "faith" without setting out precisely and exactly what you mean by or seek to convey when you use the word, "faith"? For some reason or never quite understand, men (human beings) seem to suppose that faith has something to do with belief, and in my respectful submission is very little point in speaking about either faith or belief without investigating or making plain exactly what they are. Another way of putting that is what sort of psychological process is taking place in men when they either have faith (whatever that means) or believe. Is it supposed that the verb of faith is believe? If either you or I "believe" what exactly are we doing - I don't like the word "we" so I will rephrase that as what exactly are you or I doing so I can only put that as, if and when you "believe" what exactly are you (not anybody else but you) actually doing? Is not trying to ask that question directly analogous to a mirror reflecting itself or a fingertip touching itself? - Or either seeking to do either? Perhaps even more difficult to address, is, it possible to discover what is taking place or going on, or happening behind the veil of the word "believe"? - Is it possible to see beyond that veil or through it? Is it possible for me to discover exactly what I am doing when I "believe"? Now change that question and substitute for I, you, so that it reads is it possible for you to discover exactly what you are doing when you "believe"? If it is possible for you discover what you what it is that you are doing - if anything when you "believe"?

I think Mr. Ganssle's chair analogy is a good one. Before sitting, you have faith that the chair will support your weight, because you do not know. Your faith will be tested by sitting on the chair. I have found my Christian faith to be the same - you sit on it, and either it "works" or it doesn't. I have found over time that various aspects (i.e., beliefs) of my faith in fact don't "work," which forces me to seek new understanding. I experience this as "growing up" or maturing. I think "rationalizing" or "fooling yourself" about God doesn't work for any of us, at least for long, any more than we can fool ourselves that Santa exists.

In the Hebrews that I read, faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Accordingly, faith is the evidence, which means it transforms the thing you want into the thing you have. It is more in the nature of a force, like gravity, which allows you, with enough of it, to move a mountain or walk on water, as Christ was able to by using it. It is way more than mere trust or assurance and nothing like believing in something without evidence.

I have no problem in approaching the world from an empirical/scientific perspective and having faith. There are indeed big philosophical questions that we don't (yet?) have evidence to illuminate the answer. Having faith in a particular worldview encompassing these questions is a healthy approach to life. Where things go off the rails is when one individual asserts that his/her such worldview is correct/truthful and therefore everyone else must adopt it also.

baby smile , the God of the Bible was not hidden to Adam. He spoke and walked with him until the Fall. Many say the Fall means the entry of duality. I do not know. Then, it is said that Enoch walked with God and God took him. Prophet Elijah. I understand by all this that God is not hiding, but our vision or perception has been curbed by sin so that we cannot see Him. God wants to do away with sin and live among and in us. Sin is defined as ‘missing the mark’. Adam and Eve thought that eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil would make them like God. It did not. They ought to have trusted God. And they died the spiritual death and lost contact. I think these are all symbolic. God speaks in us and through us and when self interest dominates us we fail to hear that voice. Christ said that he is standing at the door and knocking. We won’t open because we do not want to give away our power to do our will. We are afraid that we will lose all the joyful things. We must sacrifice everything like Jesus did on the cross. We are not sure. Perhaps we need only to look within, seek and keep on seeking and you will find. God never said that He cannot be found. I think ‘ The Sense of the Presence of God’ by Bailey in the Gifford Lectures addresses the fine nuances of ‘faith’.
@rosch99
@rosch99 3 года назад
@@world-of-susan. you can believe in the god of the bible. That's your right. But there is not a shred of evidence that the god portrayed in the bible has any correlation to the actual creator of all there is. There is no doubt that the universe and all it contains was created by a being much more powerful and capable than anything we could imagine. the god portrayed in any religion you want to consider is but a mere misrepresented shadow of what actually is. The bible stories are interesting and sometimes romantic. But they're just stories and you can't prove otherwise.

My personal understanding of "faith" is that it is the same mental action as: closing your eyes to go to sleep and "expecting" to wake up from that sleep. It simply can not be proven, nor can we say you go to sleep trusting that you will wake (what if i don't trust than what?) However we sleep either way in Faith that we will wake. This very mental action is how Christianity is saying we should follow God in faith.

Faith has connection with the physics of human body-brain-mind system. The sole purpose of brain and mind is to maintain and protect the body. The brain works on the basis of stored experiences where immediate instant action is required while the mind works where delayed response is required. This is evident from the fact that mind first think then act means that some time is taken before action, so it is futuristic. Mind do not have any direct outside connection it is like working in the laboratory of memories for the assignments of needs. It does preparations for the future. The mind consumes too much of the energy. The mind protects the body but who will protect the mind? If the mind is not protected the brain may get damaged because of excessive work up for breakthrough (blood vessels may burst). Faith is like confidence in say own psychic network, in any person or any object that give strength and lessens the anxiety so protect the mind.

Faith does work. It's a mind set. A conviction. That sets the universal energy working in your favor. Every tradition teaches it, new ager's spell it out in plain language. You just need an electro-chemical brain and a cosmos like ours.

I love these series. However, the beginning of the video started off all wrong. Hebrews 11:1 says: "not seen", it never says "things you cannot prove". The Bible is about trusting in God, that by definition cannot be seen by humans eyes. The beginning of the universe never was observed by any human, the origin of life was never observed by any human, God was never seen by any human. Those realities that are not observable by the naked eyes, need to be trusted as real, despite being beyond the human observation.

"What is faith?" Simple: Faith is believing in something without demonstrable proof. Why would *anyone* want to go there? Loch Ness monster... Yeti... Bermuda Triangle... Ghosts... Ridiculous conspiracy theories... Where does faith end? How is faith a path to truth?

I mean that's looking at it from one narrow angle. Okay, it's made up, but faith is other things. It's a great motivator. It brings hope into hopeless situations. Etc.

What if Faith was just a 'Decision'? What if a 'Belief' is just a thought one keeps thinking? Wouldn't that mean that we could just 'Change' or 'Create' a Belief at anytime if it is to our benefit or better yet, the benefit of all? Couldn't That Really Change the World in a Wonderful Way??? What if we All just took a vow 2 practice this every chance we got? What would we have 2 Lose?

Perhaps faith can be a verb. As in - I will embed myself in this lifestyle. Go all in on something, in the hope and the wisdom to know that we don't have the answers. Who knows what could happen. Just saying "I don't Believe in God" is an act of faith because you just can't be sure but you make a choice and stand by it. It's the same thing - Isn't it?

Faith follows divine nature, such as the divine nature active in the congregation of Israel and the divine nature active in the person of Jesus. It could be that the divine nature is or will become active in a new way which people can follow, one that takes into consideration recent scientific and philosophical developments.

I think no one mentioned what faith is...Did anyone say that faith is a gift? Just as it is a gift of God/universe to have a healthy body, and mind. Just as it is a gift to be born into good circumstances. The gifts we have we may be grateful for, or we may not. As with everything else, faith is a gift, a wonderful gift for many people. Also, it is interesting and was not mentioned I think, that faith is what makes humans stronger, and able to deal with difficulties in life. Most of the survivors of prison camps and lives of horrible suffering (Russian Gulag, Nazi concentration camp, etc.), were people with faith that God had a purpose for their life. Most of those without such faith gave up, died, committed suicide etc.
