Bombay 1985 - Question #2 from Question & Answer Meeting #2
'Since you say that there is no such thing as God and you also condemn idol worship, then the question of how we are born and how nature came into existence comes into the picture. Kindly explain.'
---
This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

The presence of J. Krishnamurti: Touched by Grace As I sat in the auditorium, the air thick with an electric stillness, I felt my heart swell with a profound sense of reverence. Before me, J. Krishnamurti radiated a luminous presence, a beacon of wisdom and compassion that seemed to transcend the confines of the physical world. When the moment came to approach him, to touch my forehead to his feet in a gesture of deep surrender, I was overcome by a wave of emotion that defied all description. In that fleeting instant, time seemed to stand still, and I was enveloped in a love so vast, so unbound, that it seemed to pour forth from the very core of the universe. It was a transformative experience, one that left an indelible mark on my soul. For in the presence of this extraordinary man, I caught a glimpse of the boundless possibilities that lie within the human spirit, a limitless expanse of love and understanding that exists beyond the reach of words.

K may know the origin of everything but He keeps on careful with it and with all His own experience b'coz if he point it out, it comes back to the circle of self centered or self selfishness. Other possibilty also that He thinks so clear that He could understand the motive of all these. So He remains humble and keep it sacred. I'm so sure He knows all these.

I think we've become too 'civilised' and it's led us away from nature. Also we've a tendency to regard nature as something to be exploited rather than worked with. Although it does seem to be getting slightly better these days. There's more eco-awareness than there used to be.

J. seems intellectual on the surface, but he’s not drawing it from there. It’s intuitive intelligence, a deeper pond so to speak, the paradox is there’s no dualistic thinking going on, all though it can come across that way on the surface. Communicating this experience and perception, is translating a paradigm that can not be known from the paradigm that is seeking to know it.

We can never really know how nature came into existence, its the Darwins theory that makes the most sense, and is based on logic than on imagination. At the end however the consciousness came into being, what matters is how do we come out if it and end the human suffering, and how do we live in peace until death do us apart. Thats the only reality, others are just assumptions which would do no good to humans. We all need to understand the human suffering psychologically and this is what self inquiry is which JK and other great teachers are focusing on. We can’t forever keep fighting on the same old unsolved mystery about the creation, but we should be concerned on the human suffering in the first place.

He literally says at the beginning "I don't have to explain myself" which is true, he can say whatever is necessary in the moment to convey the contradictory acts of the mind that asks such questions, that is is purpose, to take a question and not fulfill the question with a platitude but a real and true disposal of the question itself, that is satisfaction after all, the end of a want, it isn't pleasurable, it isn't wrong, it is annihilation of the question, which is exactly what anyone asking really truly wants if they are willing to listen.

As a mirror, JK cannot induce we to gather one or another side. He simply doesn't know. On other video, he talked about creation as a supreme intelligence out of thought. That supreme intelligence of course cannot come from human beings, we don't possess that capacity, it's beyond our control and thought. So, logically, this supreme intelligence comes from another source, which by definition, cannot be static, cannot be impermanent. That supreme intelligence of creation has left it's mark on the laws of the cosmos, physics, matter, antimatter, energy, gravity, parallel universes, and other dimensions. All that possesses defined laws, which clearly points to this supreme intelligence K talked. Call it from what you want, but it's outside human realm.

Though I agree with the logic of self inquiry, but the question about God isn't a craving for man to worship but to make sense of the Grandeur of Nature, of Existence. Just as we do not know how this cosmic soup came about or whether someone created it or not, whether in a universe with infinite possibilities for existence this was one of the rarest possible set of events that caused us, we will never know. Many people maybe just fine with existence being unexplained and say hey we don't know and we will never know and who cares? But there is the need for understanding how we are all connected and if there was a creator who set the right conditions for the universe to come into existence and let it play out just as a developer creates a virtual game and let's the players play. The players become so involved in trying to finish the levels and the game, they don't really have a vision of the developer or really care about it. Just as J Krishnamurti complained about God being an idiot for creating us... A gamer would probably yell this game sucks why are other players so useless. Point being people of faith believe that only way one can understand God is if there is some sort of intervention into the world of the divine. So abrahamic religions have their own revelations and Hinduism has Avatars. Without these most faiths would most probably just be on the path of self inquiry. Apart from the aspect of worship or rituals most faiths are heavily based on self inquiry as a part of the ritual. So when you start judging a set of people with beliefs it's where they start their narrative from is what matters. A Hindu who will worship the idols of his deity will also meditate on his own form his atma - so just calling some repetitive rituals useless is shallow. These rituals invoke a state of mind for deep contemplation for meditation if done in a proper manner. Obviously anything done mechanically isn't gonna help wether it's about sled contemplation or some religious ritual. I get his points and respect his focus on self inquiry but in his assumptions that someone who believes in God and may be engaged in just some repetitive rituals is no good is just scratching the surface. But I understand his point is about self inquiry first but he should compare it to a devout religious person who is just as concerned about self inquiry and trying to understand his own consciousness and existence along with his or her connectedness to the whole world. It would be equal to a religious person saying someone who just sits down and just repetitively mechanical tries to meditate for self inquiry is of no use. Obviously both comparisons would be wrong.

We need to understand that the whole system of existence is so benevolent that it supports every form of life. Today man has made tremendous improvement in every walk of life through this ever present system of Nature. On his own,man has done nothing . So we need to be dedicated to Nature that supports us. But once we are caught in labels, then we lose depth of Life. If we follow 2 things, we will be very happy. 1 DIVINE PRAISE 2. DIVINE ACCEPTANCES

k should have replied, how someone know that nature exist and the questioner himself exist. What is that thing in the questioner, which knows that something exist around him and he/she himself exist. He should lead every questioner to that knowingness. The thing which is knowing. Then question, whether that thing is real or an illusion. To put that question, K need to explain, the meaning of word real and illusion.

Actually K's version is not what the Christian/Western doctrine is. They do say God created everything but man has been given a measure of free will. He's misused it and that's why he's miserable. It's not that God must be weird to make us so miserable, it's that we haven't learnt to live right and keep doing the wrong things. (I'm not a Christian, I'm just saying).
@danielcowan8673
@danielcowan8673 4 года назад
If we had free will why would we choose to be miserable? We are at the mercy of our conditioning and it's because we are not aware of our conditioning that we don't live right.

The representatives of all world religions sit together and discuss to whom God belongs. The Jew says: 'Us. We invented him'. Does the Christian mean: 'Us. We have brought him down to earth. The Muslim takes his Koran and begins to recite sura after sura. After an hour the Jew can't stand it any longer and leaves. After two hours the Christian follows him. After three hours the Buddhist says: 'This is a very bad trick. But it doesn't help, because I don't have a God at all'. After four hours the Hindu answers: 'Doesn't help me either, because I have a lot of gods'. After five hours it becomes too much even for the Muslim. He puts the Koran aside, gets his megaphone and exclaims his Adhan loudly: 'Allahu akbar'. The Buddhist and the Hindu flee the room. The Muslim cheers: 'The one who remains wins.' Then the Highlander storms in, pulls out his sword and shouts: 'There can only be one'. The Muslim flees, the Highlander after him. For some time the meeting room is empty. Then Pupul Jayakar rushes in, checks all and calls: 'Can this room be rented? We have a lecture with our speaker.'

2:49 "The scientists have proved *as a fact* that we come from a tiny cell..." Jiddu Krishnamurti, Bombay, 1985. 34 years later, *the fact* is that science is totally unable to demonstrate a step by step mechanism explaining the apparition of life on Earth I.E.: the movement from inorganic matter to a viable self-replicating living structure (the tiny cell). Meanwhile, Darwinist mechanics is far from having proved *as a fact* that all life forms evolved from that tiny cell although it has explained satisfactorily small and gradual adaptations to a stable local environment within a species. Obviously, to invoke God is not much of an explanation. Basically, K skirts the question then starts ranting about something else... and that's *a fact*

He never responds to philosophical questions in a philosophical way; he always and I emphasis ALWAYS respond from his own point of view which is (rather contradictorily) very biased and narrow-minded. Mind you I don't believe in a so-called creator either personally, but at the same time I would not simply say it would be "silly" to believe in a creator, because our definition of "creativity" and "creation" is very anthropocentric and it might be the case that, "THAT" which is the ineffable nature of reality (that cannot be put into language) creates without being limited in time and space, hence we could not even begin to understand it. However, from our anthropocentric point of view we try to make sense of it in our own limited experience and knowledge; nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, pondering on the nature of existence could be the beginning point for someone in her/his spiritual journey and should be embraced instead of criticised in such an absurd way... BTW, knowing the origin of our existence is VERY important as if it can be realized it can help us directly to know the truth and (possibly purpose) of our being, which in turn can also help us form far more ethical and humanistic societies. I respect Krishnamurti but he seem incapable of responding to important questions without either changing the question or evade the important subtleties.

@@iroveashe Existence, be it the existence of the creator or anything is itself an assumption, hence non-existence of those very things is also an assumption. Existence and non-existence are two sides of a same coin. That's why we have such traditions as Vedanta in India and Apophatic traditions (negative theology) in ancient Persia and Greece. Regarding the lived experience, I know many other teachers throughout the history that also used to teach people and write also based on experience and the organic knowledge that comes with it; and it happened that they were also believers. Should we simply label them and judge them as indoctrinated teachers or people who did not experience what they were talking about? ... Adi Shankara, Rumi, Hafiz, Kierkegaard, Hermes, Zoroaster, Buddha (e.g. Mahayana branch) and many others talked about their philosophy which they also lived and experienced. I guess we should simply label them all as indoctrinated people ^^ ....
@konnektlive
@konnektlive 5 лет назад
@@lungarotta I already responded to what you said in another post, but I would just say what I said did not deny the existence of subjective, lived experience at all. In fact, I personally only value what I can personally experience first hand, what I can personally realize and have a full experience about. In other words, you can read volumes of books about the chemistry of the strawberry, but it does not matter how much you know about it, as without personally and directly experiencing it, it will be all useless... In fact, trying to ponder on the nature of reality based on our rational thinking (as an ineffable reality) inevitably and eventually leads one to go beyond said mere logic and rationality, but the first steps are always crucial and important.
