If I remember correctly, this was when the original concept of superman wasn't just that he was an alien, he was an alien that came from a world with very high gravity which is why he could perform feats of super strength, speed, and agility like jumping because his body and physiology is naturally accustomed to high gravity worlds. But they changed it to him being basically a living solar battery.
Listen up stark he's an alien so who knows what he is capable of doing ... For instance Your Suits use ark reactors that means that uses energy but that also might be the case with SuperMan. That means he may use energy and his body is well capable of doing it since his race is much more evolved than ours and he's an alien so he is NOT The same as us . I thought You Were Smart -_-
+Nachiket Rao Thanks, man! I really appreciate the support! I released a new video last Saturday, but I've got even more coming up soon! Stay tuned! :)
@@ckmoore101 Yes, all objects and therefore all humans have their own gravitational field. However, it does beg the question of if Superman is strengthening his gravitational field to fly, why doesn't this cause anything to fall towards him?
@@captainrick4513 You are referring to the suspension of disbelief, which works better for side details than something that is actually being explained. Flaws in the science within an explanation like this become plot holes when the reader/viewer notices them, until it gets explained sufficiently that the reader/viewer can suspend their disbelief again.
ahmad alsayed Uh no, actually, chances are I know significantly more about him than you or 95% of the people who watched this video. Superman has never used telekinesis of any kind and he probably never will and the powers he has that some people might view as magic are part of his physiology and have nothing to do with "magic" in the DC universe.
lol he has telekinesis powers i can't get you proof cuz i dont read much comics, even if i read them i wouldn't remember wich issue it was is but he does have telekinesis powers
+Nazar Thank you! This was my earliest work, and it actually took a long time before I uploaded anything else, but I'm excited that people still enjoy it! I really appreciate all the support that's been given to me, and I have plenty of new ideas in the works!
superman could use negative energy instead of gravitons to stretch or contract spacetime, which would make him a living alcubierre drive (aka warp drive). this could also explain why he can be faster than light
I guess but that seems quite overly complicated compared to the rather simple and easier explanation of simply manipulating his gravitational field, no need for "negative energy", although that would make for a fun superpower for a hero/villain.
Justin Scott Honestly the only reason i like it so much is because i hate superman but smallville made me enjoy the character so much and now I like superman to an extent but the story of Clark kent as a teenager growing up was what i loved about the show.
Bio-electric energy is controlled telekinetically, though telekinetic abilities in general are rare and difficult to master. Surrounding the whole body, it acts as a field which allows Superman to manipulate his position in any given space. These are the essential principals for self-levitation. The bio-electric energy aura, which is emitted by all living things, is vital to super strength, though useless outside of solar saturation. It protects him, to an extent, from harmful outside sources of impact, but its impregnability is only equal to mental output, or telekinetic energy manipulation ability; and Superman is almost always aware of nearly everything that happens in his immediate vicinity, even when "sleeping". He may also use it to administer impact, making objects less difficult to lift or damage than with strength alone.
I think what you're referring with "emitted by all living things" is electromagnetic fields, which makes more sense. Superman has increased control over his electromagnetic field that allows him to use it to lift things without them crumbling under their own weight and manipulate his gravitational field to fly.
@@ProjektTaku Exactly! He manipulates his electromagnetic field to pull himself through 3d space. It's a cellular property from his Kryptonian biology.
On the tv show Smallville, when young Clark Kent discovers that he can fly, he explained it to his parents ( Johnathan and Martha Kent)-it was as if he just willed himself to do it. But it was triggered by a disaster - I believe it was a tornado where Lana Lang was trapped in a wrecked car in a ditch as the storm approached.
I actually explained to a RU-vidr before that superman's invulnerability was due to this "bio electric field" and he told me that never happened it was only discussed lol I'm glad this video expressed it with the necessary cite origin lol
It explains why his suit survives all attack’s too. It’s basically made of Kryptonian Kevlar but fighting other superpowered enemies do sometimes damage it too.
I’ve always thought that Superman can fly because of the difference in gravity (which also explains his super strength) but it didn’t really make sense either because he can still fly in space but there is no gravity in space.
Hey, well done. There's some great research in this piece as well as some really well thought out physics to back up something completely fictional. The only notes I have would be to bump up the energy level of your presentation style. You sound smart but you also sound like you're teaching a geology class, and you seem to have way too much passion for the material than how you're presenting it. Take a look at the "Vsauce" videos. The hosts act so energized and passionate about the subjects they are introducing. You're bringing to life impossible comic realities, show us how much fun that is! I think if you do that you'll collect more views and more subscribers because bro, you deserve it!
wait a minute based on what has been said in this video I've realised that there is a misconception with superman's powers namely that we refer to them as "powers" plural, this video has demonstrated that superman doesn't have multiple powers he has 1 power complete control of his own bio-energetic field using this field in different ways produces different results giving the illusion of multiple powers when in fact he only has 1 fortunately this video does a good job covering how this field becomes super strength, super speed , invulnerability, and obviously flight as for his other powers here is a quick summary NOTE: these are main powers only none of the gimmicky one time powers such as repairo vision or that stupid cellophane logo from the movies. 1. Super hearing/sight turns entire field into sensory organ then channels information through ears/eyes, 2.heat/x-ray vision absorbs infrared radiation into eyes then focuses into beam through the eyes lenses similar to holding magnifying glass to the sun x-ray vision is the same but with x-rays instead of infrared, 3.ice breath this is another misconception while this power isn't directly because of the field but i'll explain it anyway as explained above under the yellow sun superman gains increases molecular density this also means he has increased cell density a by product of this has given superman a massive lung capacity his "ice breath" is merely him blowing really hard not really a power but due to the sheer quantity of air being expelled through such a small hole generates massive air pressure and a significant wind chill the ice that forms is the condensation in his breath freezing under that wind chill similar to ice forming on a planes wings. that's all the powers i'm aware of covered if i've missed one that is a MAIN power as in has appeared multiple times in multiple sources then tell me and i'll see if i can figure out how it works using this theory.
Rob the Hungry well actually “X-Ray vision” is just his eyes capability to perceive the entire electromagnetic spectrum, although his heat vision can actually emit all forms of radiation including X rays, microwaves, and Gamma rays, should he choose to do so. The Heat vision is just easiest and most effective in a combat scenario
I just happened upon your page. I love your explanations. gotta get ppl to share your videos or upload to popular places because i would have never had the pleasure of watching your vids! very well done!
+Edwyn Stuart Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the info! If you're really that big of a fan and want to spread the word, then please let other people know! :) I've got more material coming out all the time!
well bending spacetime is a good explanation since it also explain how he was able to travel faster than speed of light in some story. if you bend space to propel yourself, you are not limited by the speed of light because there isnt a limit (at least not yet) on how fast space can expand and contract..
***** not really, superman created mini star to feed his pet in his club.. so creating black hole isnt beyond him, however he isnt going to create a black hole because E=MC2 doesnt apply to the fabric of spacetime, differ physic is in play here, so even if he travel beyond the speed of light, his mass and energy consumption wont become infinite, because he isnt the one that accelerating, he actually is the one that remain still. this is the same concept how the dark matter drive in planet express ship works in futurama.
+dranzer gigs Superman may not be omnipotent, but he is outrageously powerful, to the point of doing things on a regular basis which defies the laws of physics. After all, there is that famous quote "Superman is as powerful as Superman needs to be." Essentially, Superman's only matches include cosmic, divine, or mystical opponents who manipulate reality as easily as he bends physics. Anything less, and Supes has it beat.
He flies by using the same power you use when you fly in your dreams. Notice how even when dreaming, flying is still very difficult, and it's difficult to change directions, too. The power of thought, will and intent allows you to fly in your dreams, but since Superman has super will and intent, he can also fly in his physical body.
I've had a couple dreams where I was able to fly. In the first one I was just practicing flying back and forth over a pond where my friends were swimming and crashed into the water a few times
+Try Hard Gamer I don't add lol to my sentences to make me sound smarter I do it cause talking about this is all in fun also to defy something means to resist and so if u are flying then u are resisting gravity which is the force that pulls u down
It could be Force Flight (also known as Telekinetic Flight). Supposedly, this is a VERY DIFFICULT feat for a Jedi; but it's obviously no problem for Superman! Perhaps Kryptonians have more midi-chlorians in each cell than TEN Anakin Skywalkers put together; and that would make such feats as Force Flight and Heat Vision child's play! Maybe Earth's yellow Sun multiplies those midi-chlorians EVEN MORE!
I love your channel man! You found a way to relay awesome information to your subs without making it boring! Keep up the good work and hope you continue making these awesome vids for the continued success!
Or just accept it as being something unexplained and as being something that doesn't need to be explained. I'm going to be writing my own comic books and I have a Superman-like character who can fly and no one knows how he's doing it(not even him)and my approach to how he flies will just be to have it be a mystery and be unexplained.
Thanks for the video. Interesting theory on his flight capabilities being the result of his ability to bend space/time. That would be the same principle on which the Warp engines of Starships in the Star Trek universe work.
The age old problem of the "bending spacetime" around him thingy still doesn't solve the mystery of him ONLY being able to fly, and not just being able to use telekinesis for everything or anything in general. He could literally warp reality. It's like a human that is able to run perfectly fine with two legs, but can't stand, walk or do literally ANYTHING else with those two legs.
The bioelectric aura would explain why things don't fall apart when he lifts them. It would also explain why he struggles to stop an airplane from crashing, he's attempting to stop it without destroying it entirely. And how he manages to catch people without cutting them into pieces as they crash into his arms at terminal velocity.
It didn't really feel like I was pushing myself against gravity, or whatever those people are talking about when I flew. Seriously, I fly all the time in dreams, and I remember the experience I felt then, to where I almost completely know now of how it feels to fall from an incredibly high distance, even though my feet has never left the ground in real life. I remember how it feels to fly, and its something that not many people could ever truly understand. It's something that you will never become tired of, sick of, or exhausted from. It's something that you will never take for granted. It's something that you'll definitely never have an interest of giving away, because it is the most special part of you and your very existence, and you can't give that away. It becomes apart of you more than you could ever imagine. I know most of you are confused about what I am saying. Just understand that I know what true flying is, and this message was completely serious, and truthful. Thanks for reading. ☺🌌
Cool video :D just one issue with your physics. when travelling super fast time dilation would in fact take place but in the opposite direction. If moving really fast his time would slow so what would appear as him travelling a mile in 10 seconds would appear to him as only taking 5 seconds (made up number) meaning if anything he would have to think even more super fast then he would relative to us.
Considering the Earth spins at about 1000 miles per hour, he would just have to leap into the air, wait for his destination to show up beneath him and land. He has super strength to propel himself and to slow himself down. I've always wondered how he groomed himself like shaving, cutting nails, haircuts, manscaping, etc. - They've got to be some pretty serious blades to trim the Man of Steel's hair : )When we are kind and considerate to others, WE ARE ALL Supermen and Superwomen : ) Much Peace and Love to All : )
+B. Allen Since there isn't 100 mph winds everywhere, it should be fairly evident that the air in the atmosphere is flung around as well. Therefore (and because of your own momentum), jumping in the air doesn't suddenly make you fly across the land in the opposite direction of Earth's rotation. The same would apply to Superman: Within Earth's atmosphere he has to actually exert force to travel in any direction. Earth's rotation won't help him much there. Also, this doesn't explain hovering, which he is often seen doing
Back in the 1960s, there was an inordinate amount of discussion in the letters pages of comics about how Superman shaved, cut his hair, and trimmed his nails. Basically, IIRC, he used his heat vision to cut his nails. I think it was claimed that his hair didn't grow in Earth's atmosphere, although I can't imagine why not. But if he was away from Earth for a while, he would have to trim it. He used a mirror to reflect his heat vision where he wanted it to go. It had to be a mirror that wouldn't melt or be otherwise damaged in the process, and I think there was a story where Supergirl made such a mirror for him. Otherwise, she could use HER heat vision to cut his hair, and vice versa. As for "manscaping", I never even heard that word before, and most men get by without doing any such thing. But if Supes wanted to, he could use his heat vision directly for that, without the need for a mirror. (It would be kind of perverted if he let Supergirl, then a teenager in high school, have any involvement with that.)
@@Psalm_23 what do you mean gravity..get the fuck out here with that flat Earth gravity is fake bullshit..go play in traffic please.. the world needs it
+SAlcocer12 Thank you! I really do my best to produce quality content, and I am ecstatic about the positive response I have gotten! You have all been very welcoming to my channel. :)
I like DBZ's explanation for flight. The manipulation of chi/ki energy and releasing it through and out of the body to generate thrust. Same concept can be applied to Superman.
that was actually quite cool. good job, and i loved it. your video was nicely done and it kept my interest. i'm looking forward to seeing what other videos you've got on explaining comic powers.
Now that you're back it's time to go through the past videos again. Tried during your absence the last two years but it was kind of a bummer knowing there'd be no more. I watch so many channels that involve science, philosophy, and comics. But none combine all three areas as well as your channel. Happy you're back.
His "Bio-electric aura" is likely just an enhanced electromagnetic field thanks to his supercharged cells, able to act as a force-field and stabilizes objects, along with allowing him to manipulate his gravitational field to fly.
Gravitons actually make sense mathematically and scientifically and help to explain why gravity acts like a wave. So, now, it's more of less on the hypothetical said and more on the "we just have to find them." Keep in mind there are new particles being discovered that seem to be much much smaller than we could originally think of. Quarks are an example as well as the SUZI particle. Superman affecting gravitons makes the most sense.
So to summarise, he has a bioelectric aura which basically works like an air bubble as it protects him and can rise with him as well as a super anti-grav jump???
The ability to create and manipulate space-time curvature explains not only Superman's ability to fly and move at super-speed, but also his ability to lift a house, or even two skyscrapers, by supporting each of them at a single point, namely, the palm of one hand, without having the structure of the building crumble. He imparts a gravitic force field into the building, holding it together.
Superman lifting fragile buildings by the corner and not crashing through when he lifts things like ocean liners or passenger jets? Yeah, tactile telekinesis before Conor ever bored us to tears with his endless referencing of this power.
I think it is more likely Superman is creating infrasound by contractions and relaxing his muscles and using that to fly. It would explain why there is no sound because it's at a range humans can't hear. Why he can drastically change directions mod flight, and how he controls his speed.
+Leo F Not really, the answer will be much more complicated than that. The greatest problem in modern science is unifying sub-atomic gravitons with the general theory of relativities gravity. One only works on a sub-atomic level the other only works on larger scales and no one can figure out how they relate to one another. The most widely accepted theoretical means of traveling to a distant object faster than light could is by bending space to make the distance shorter by creating a wormhole. However creating a wormhole takes negative energy, which we haven't figured out how to produce and even if we could produce a wormhole we're not even sure it's possible to make one large enough for anything larger than a sub-atomic particle to pass through. If the answer was something as primitive as you suggested don't you think we would have thought of it already?
superman flies the same way goku or anyone from dbz flies, that "aura" is something that everybody has it's called qi pronouced ki in Japanese chi in chinese, it's an energy field that all of us have but in us it's pretty weak but qi masters are able to produce and manipulate lots of it enough to push people without touching them
+The Imaginary Axis pleasure is all mine, mate! I usually don't comment but ur video on Flash speed calculation and Superman's fly was epic...Although I felt a bit upset after seeing only couple of videos uploaded ....also so less subscribers... truth be told your videos are way better than variant comics channel... hence the good work ....thnx for acknowledgement though :)
+The Imaginary Axis and yeah surely I will comeback for more of ur videos...BTW I have one request Can you do a power comparison video between The Flash and Superman....not just in terms of fastest... I have searched every where but couldn't stumble upon one
+Anchit Pandey Wow. Thank you so much. I really appreciate all the kind comments. I really do put a lot of hard work into these videos, and I would be ecstatic if I got more exposure at some point. But in regards to the Flash and Superman, I think I am going to be taking a break from both characters for a little while. I'll probably return to them eventually, but there are so many topics I haven't talked about that I would love to discuss! I can't just make the channel about two characters, you know? But hey, people keep asking me to do a video on who are the most powerful superheroes, and if I ever cover that topic you can probably expect to see both characters on the list somewhere.
I think that you can apply logic and a system of logic to any work of fiction-and that includes comics.Stan Lee would often talk about applying logic to comics and how he was puzzled by how Superman could fly and that with characters like Iron Man and even a god like Thor,we know how they can fly and what propels them forward and upward but with Superman, we don't know what can propel him forward and upward and we didn't know how he can defy gravity and hover about and stay aloft. But I honestly don't think that how Superman flies really even needs to be explained.I that think it works much better when you just accept that how he's doing what he's doing can't really be explained scientifically or rationally.I'm going to be writing my own comic books and that's pretty much the same approach I have to have to dealing with how an original character of mine(who is a Superman-like character)flies.
Y'know,I thought that the faster you are then the more enhanced your abilities get because The Flash, who's power is super speed, can deliver blows any stronger than other
I have to wonder if anyone has actually SEEN the 1977 Superman movie. His flight is explained in that movie at the very beginning, when Jor-El and Lara are discussing their son. Jor-El very clearly states and I quote, "He will defy their gravity," meaning that Superman's flight isn't so much flight in the traditional sense where something propels him into motion, but that he can simple move about the land and air freely without limitation. His yellow sun given abilities allow him to defy gravity to whatever level he sees fit.
Okay, flying invulnerability and super speed can be explained. There should also be an explanation for heat and freeze breath... What about the lazer eyes? How does yellow sun give him lazer eyes? Or is that also bio electric
he has greater lung capacity, which gives him super breath, and by shaping his mouth he can cool the air as it leaves his lungs, creating "freeze breath". His heat vision is just funneling his stored solar energy through his eyes.
What I've always wondered though is.. How does Superman *initiate* his flying? EG: When he jumps, how does he determine whether it will be a regular jump, or a soar into the air?
I know I am late to this, but gravitons have been all but proved recently because of the detection of gravitational waves. If the waves are there, it makes it extremely likely that the particles are as well, meaning this is technically possible.
I love channels like this when they put science and superheroes or games together and explain them using real life physics I a huge nerd when it comes to science and math and I loves superheros I didn't watch the video yet but my theory is that I think he can jump higher and fly because his planet and earth has different gravitational pulls no it or not Leyton has a different gravitational pull it has a small gravitational pull so he can't fly in his planet so hes only super on his planet and the average sin circles around the earth gives him his power the energy I think thats how he fly probably
Great video dude. Almost as good as your How Fast is Flash video. One question: When is DC gonna retcon the fact that our sun is not yellow at all? It's white.
+Derek Dexter I don't expect them to. We usually classify stars based on how they look through our atmosphere. Our sun looks yellow, so it is called a 'yellow star'. Other stars look red, so they are called 'red stars'. The real difference is that one gives out a lot more energy than the other one.
