It still shocks me when scientists told the American generals/govt that the atom bomb could possibly IGNITE THE ATMOSPHERE ON FIRE, they still used it...
It was that or the nazis would have used it and continued using it without any kind of restraint. That fact in itself is the only reason Einstein lent his expertise to the project. Oppenheimer appealed to him in essence guilting him into it by pulling the “you being a German Jew yourself, you can’t take the risk of the nazis getting this technology first.” The second time he was asked as the first time he was approached he flatly declined because he wanted no part of creating a weapon capable of killin everyone on the planet. Shortly after he is quoted as saying “I know not what the weapons of World War III will be, but the weapons of WW4 will most definitely be sticks and rocks”
I learnt this in science yesterday, my teacher says it is because of the energy released when splitting the uranium atoms by shooting neutrons at it whoch creates even more neutrons because when uranium splits it releases three more neutrons
Not quite, heck this is a very simplistic description of a nuclear initiation. A hydrogen bomb uses an atomic device to initiate hydrogen fusion so the first stage would work
@@oscargrey4416 let’s be honest today Russia stands powerful due to its nuclear Arsenal otherwise Russia would have broke in more parts and USA would have destroy Russia.Russia alliance with China make it more powerful and stand it tall like superpower as China has potential of future superpower
Uranium can be used in implosion or gun types. Plutonium can only really be used in implosion weapons. Most weapons are implosion types. Most weapons are plutonium fueled. There have been several uranium implosion weapons.
It is important to note, the Little Boy Bomb was never tested like the Fat Man Bomb which used Plutonium 239, whereas Little Boy used Uranium 235. Oppenheimer and his team were so confident in the Little Boy design it was never tested and it really wasn't proven until it was dropped on Hiroshima.
I lost all faith in this channel :( everytimes you talk about some thing I am very familiar with, a lot of details is wrong, therefore I am sceptical about all the things that are new for me.
That's only how Fat Man worked (the one dropped over Nagasaki) Little Boy (the bomb dropped iver Hiroshima) used uranium in a gun-tyoe method, by using explosives to shoot 5 rings of uranium 235 into a uranium target, causing a similar chain reaction, but it's an explosion type bomb instead of implosion
The first bomb dropped on Nagasaki was an implosion bomb composed of a sphere of explosives layered on a hollow sphere of plutonium 239 with a beryllium-polonium 220 core. When the explosives were detonated that forced the plutonium 239 sphere to compress into the beryllium-polonium 210 core causing the atoms of plutonium 239 to begin to split in a chain reaction causing other plutonium 239 atoms to split in a continuous exponential chain reaction resulting in a fission nuclear explosion. The Hiroshima bomb was a gun type and used uranium 235 using conventional explosives to slam uranium 235 to stationary uranium 235 to trigger the fission Cain reaction.
We Knew That The World Would Not Be The Same, Few People Laughed, Few People Cried, Most People Were Slient,Now I Have Become Death, Destroyer Of Worlds.
Imagine explaining to a soldier from the 1300s that in the future warfare weapons go from the swords, Sheilds arrows and stakes with horses that they are used to to tanks, jets, bombs, heat seaking missiles, intercontinental missiles, drones and nuclear bombs. They would clearly just see that well the world will end because of those things. And it will
this is specifically for implosion type bombs which was only used in one of the two. But iT still accurate :) the other type of bomb used was a gun-type bomb which is less effective and require HEU rather than plutonium which is 3x more effective
Oh, so that's how implosion explosions work I've been trying to understand how supernova's ause a star to lose 75% of their mass yet the only way I could imagine that is a collapse to the core itself, though now I better realize that it's like who knows how much nuclear bombs going off
Hey, I have a question, do we literally have to broke just one atom to create this much energy or multiple atoms are broken?? If multiple atoms are broken for this much energy then how big of a explosion can we expect from one atom only?
I can't believe how brainy the scientists were to make such an invention They could have used their brains on something productive 😏😔 Yet they chose desctruction
but hydrogen bomb is far dangerous than atomic bomb. It req atomic bomb to active hydrogen bomb which is at the cente of hydrogen bomb which give high temp to hydrogen bomb to start nuclar fussion and we cannot control fussion reaction endless destruction
If I was in the Middle East I would put all my effort in making one, at least it will stop the bullying, N Korea does not get bullied even though they test at least once a year while Iran is big with sanctions for shaking a fist st Israel, yes I would make that my first priority
The little boy had a different mechanism. It had a uranium cone slam into a bigger uranium block through a barrel, like a gun almost so then the unstable particles hit the atom and split them.
Swords and arrows and spears weren't that bad. Imagine if humans and nerds did not discover science ever. Who even wants to go to moon man its pretty from afar.
Don't worry; how nuclear weapons work is somewhat common knowledge already (see Wikipedia). It's quite simple in theory, but not in practice. The difficult part utilizes thousands of centrifuges to isolate rare fissionable isotopes of uranium or plutonium. That's why only a few countries have a nuclear program.
This is SOOO very wrong... THIS is a bit more accurate of a description of how the plutonium bomb works. Pressure has nothing to do with splitting the atom.. certain atoms do this naturally when absorbing a neutron, leaving behind 2 atoms of different, and more stable elements. Heat, gamma radiation, and most importantly... 3 neutrons are also released during this reaction. These neutrons can then be absorbed by more atoms..causing them to split and release even more neutrons, heat, etc... Some elements, like Beryllium, can act like a mirror to reflect neutrons back to the material. The "pressure" mentioned is created by using shaped charges or lenses designed to highly compress the material, pushing the atoms closer together so that they are more likely to encounter a neutron being released from a nearby splitting atom, this is called "critical mass". This explosion also compresses the neutron reflector around the material, leaving released neutrons with no option but to hit other atoms... making the bomb much for effective than relying upon just critical mass, such as in the cannon-type uranium bomb.
