Ever wonder what the differences are between the Boeing 737-900 and the 737-900ER? Well, the ER part of it might give it away, if you know what those letters stand for. But there’s actually more to the story. Let’s look at how the jets are built differently in today’s video…

The visible extra exit doors that came before before the optional A321 Cabin Flex Layout. The Max 8-200 also features it in order to be allowed more seats in the -800/Max 8 fuselage length

About 10 years ago, I flew Alaska from ORD to SEA. I can't remember if it was an ER or not, but was amazed at the size of the cabin and comfortable layout in economy. I wish I was able to fly the type more often and that more carrier's chose the variant.

Never flown either 739 but I have fueled both variants. The airline I mainly fuel for has about a dozen 739s and around 200 739er's. These fly all over Central and South America. Most of these flights also leave full as many of these destinations are very popular with the locals.

I’ve flown in 737s across all generations for nearly 25 years. I flew a -900ER for DL just this past March, right after hopping off a company A321 (my second time flying in anyone’s A320). Any fanboy saying that the A320 cabins have any real advantages over a contemporary 737 is a bald-faced lie. 🤦🏾‍♂️ You’ll barely feel the extra inch in seat width (if that), and most of the features people brag about depend on the *airline* rather than the airframe. And the average customer wouldn’t tell the difference between the two blindfolded, nor would they care. I view the 737 and A320 as two *stellar* products. There’s a reason they’re both some of the bestselling aircraft ever. Tidbit: UA apparently calls their 12 regular -900s “the dirty dozen,” due to their logistical problems.

Had the chance to fly on the standard 737-900 with Korean Air between Jeju and Seoul last December. Cabin was quite dated, but clean and although there was no service at all, it was probably my most enjoyable flight in a long time. The cabin was only 30% occupied, so I could move around to take pictures outside from different angles. The crew noticed and chatted with me when I went to the toilet afterwards. They were super sweet ladies and as the cherry on top, gifted me some stationery and other Korean Air souvenirs to take home.

If one is ever waiting in the gate area and the equipment type for the flight happens to be a -900ER, it's probably NOT a good idea to try and humor a few nervous fliers by telling them to relax, not to overthink it, that the ER stands for just that, the Emergency Room. 🚑🚑🤭🤪🤭🤪🤭🤪

I’ve been waiting a long time for a comparison like this I know that the B737-900ER is much more popular than the -900 standard variant with only 52 sold and not a significant pac jump from the B737-800NG but I wasn’t quite sure why. Also the 737-900ER became a much more compelling choice over the standard variant vs the A321. I have also only flown the much more common -900ER with Delta from Detroit to Atlanta and Detroit to Anchorage Alaska via Seattle WA. Now the B737 MAX 9 is taking the place of the -900ER… 😊

@@nutesacque692 Ive flown most of the 737s up to the max. My impression of the -900 and observations as a pilot 1) It has small wings and is under powered. Therefore. Its lands at a very high speed and takes much more runway to take off. 2) its has the same brakes as the smaller versions and reqires a long runway for landing... I call it the dash 9000 because you want 9000 feet of runway. 3) ON a long flight you will be stuck at FL300 in the tops of the weather until you burn off enough fuel to climb 4) if you unload the first class passengers before unloading the aft cargo pit it will set back on its tail 5) it has the same systems as the first one built in 1968 ecxept for a few back up controllers on the airconditioning system. Most pilots hate it but the airlines love it because its burns about 5000lbs of fuel per hour vs. 757 that burns 7 to 8000 lbs per hour. Boeing put lipstick on a pig on this one. My opinion
