Woman: I have Addison's Disease and do you think losing weight could possibly help that?
Dr. Marvin: There's a thought with the idea of lipotoxicity that reducing the extra weight could help control the body's over-immune response, so yes. The problem is, are you on immunosuppression right now?
Woman: I'm only on the hydrocortisone.
Dr. Marvin: Yeah, so that's a steroid, so we have to be very careful because that tends to put your stomach lining at risk for ulcers and stuff. So obviously if you decide you want to try a balloon, we would definitely take a close look with a scope first and there's a chance you couldn't have it if you had ulcers or if you had significant gastritis or something like that. So autoimmune disease is common in the United States. So different varieties of it, so I think that's the right way to approach that.
