I've been told two ways to use uv. One is before and after the light cycle, and the other is during the light cycle 15 minutes every hour. What way should uv be used?
Yes! Finally there is legit UVB research, mannnn. I love this, ive tried to get more people to use Arcadia little knockoff reptile bulb, and now we get legit science into UVB and hemp etc. You all rock, I love it. Thank you so much MiGro and Bruce at Apogee Instruments. This is next level UVB researched ive begged for years
@@reefonbux9432 Many of the Flourescent UVA/UVB lamps used for supplemental growing effects are Reptile lamps. If using Reptile lamps only, IDT any plants could grow? I mention this because many people over the years have mentioned using "Black lights" only, when speaking about growing indoors. IDK where this Myth started? Maybe older movies, or something in pop culture..? I believe Shane has a video comparing different Reptile lamps and their spectrums, on The Migro Channel.
Guidance on using the MIGRO UVB and ARAY together: The surface area of the ARAY is about 20% of the surface area of the canopy it covers. This means if the UVB is above the ARAY 80% of the UVB photos will reach the canopy. Also the UVB fixture is 2ft or 60cm long so UVB photons from some part of the fixture will pass the ARAY led bars at different angles to reach all parts of the canopy. The hanging height of the UVB is 2ft or 60cm, way above the the ARAY hanging height of 6 to 8 inches or 16cm-18cm minimum. UVB photons will fade the colour pigment of the ARAY over time but will not cause much bleaching as it is only used for around 30 hours total per growing cycle. It would be the same fading as leaving the fixture in mid-day sun for about 10 hours.
What’s not discussed is an exact method for administering the UVB supplementation for tangible results..pretty much, here’s your UV bar, go to town…i have used UV before and I am not swayed…we need to know exactly how to administer the UV..
@@lucianthepurifier___412 He said LED s can produce UVA effectively but is much less powerful to the plant. LED dont produce UVB economically. 1 photon from UVB is 100 times more powerful than UVA. UVC is much more damaging than UVB. Glass filters out UVB. Some UVB is good for people in the right amount. Some UVB is good for plants, in the right amount.
i know im asking randomly but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
Hello from Elusive Strains USA - We have followed your channel for some time and wanted to give a big thank you for giving the community accurate information. We have used UVB for many years as it does indeed have a positive affect not only for flower but for the health of our seeds.
@@MrRiverGrove Last 3 weeks of flower, have the UVB fixture come on for 2 hours (might get away with 3 hours) in the middle of your light cycle WITH your light cycle. So if you are on a traditional 12 on/12 off, you would want to just have your regular light come on for 5 hours like normal, then have another timer bring your UV fixture on for its two hours, have it shut off, and have and have the remaining 5 hours be just your normal lighting LED, HPS, etc. We want to act like the UVB is running when the sun would be at its highest point/most intense during your relative light cycle. Hope this helps
Been running uv & IR for about 7years…..undoubtedly more resin more colors and flavors, it has come built into Kind lights for years and it’s adjustable, I just use it during flower! I fall on the floor laughing every time someone with a mars says I’m overpaying for my kind Led! Been trying to explain for years that I’m buying the spectrum
I have several runs with your UV-B fixture now n can say that it does make a huge difference in my grows. 1st off the MIGRO bulb seems much brighter next to a Solarcure fixture. 2nd, the plants respond to the UV with lots of trichomes n colors. I run 1.5 hours a day through all of flower. At harvest we often see that the colas n leaves exposed to the UV show the colors while the bottom branches do not. Thnx for the videos and the awesome lights. I have my 1st array4 on the way and can't wait to hang it.
Exactly! LOL. I am so happy this UVB talk is getting big now, ive talked about it for years on Hash Church and icmag, and all the UVB cannabis videos (the couple that are around ha)
@@dertythegrower No doubt, I have been playing with uva and uvb combos off and on for decades! .Is anyone out there using a 20:1 ratio uva to uvb ? I was told this is close to the natural sun spectrum .? My thoughts are to dial in the origin of the strain and then replicate that spectrum from where it comes from....just throwing some ideas out there ..All my theories and conclusions have been from 25 years of R&D..trial and error. This is why greenhouse produce lacks as much flavor as under the sun, One part of this trigger process is Brix levels shoot up fast! As well as cooler temps ..Did a bunch of side by sides not even close!
I would assume sometimes at least they are pressed by accident. I’ve hit the dislike button so many times on my iPhone without realising. It doesn’t notify you like it does when u like something so often you just don’t notice you disliked it.
Awww yeah, Dr.Bugbee is the man for sure! Great video, can't wait to see what the future brings with the new UVB technology being implemented and put to use.
Agree'd. Currently I am growing peppers Chinese basil and a sativa/indica. Using a reptile bulb pulsed for an hour or so a day. Definitely getting some cool purples
This has been known for a very long time and was found when kush was first taken from India from the hindu kush mountains as it grew with very high UV in the altitude of where it was first discovered and works best with kush variants of cannabis the plant developed more oils and thc as a uv defense
@@slurpyterpy447 if it's in its dna it will work sativas come from arawnd China a long time ago but have been grown just about everywhere at some point in time. so if it has picked up that mutation it will work . the stubilaty of the genetics will make a difference to as two seeds from the same plant some time hold different mutations from parent plant ... if you get wot I'm saying
@@slurpyterpy447 In theory it should help all plants regardless of genetics and strains, because outdoors they all get UV. It's just that some will benefit more, and some will benefit less.
I received the MIGRO UV-fixture during the flowering period. It is difficult to say how the effects are, but it definitely didn't hurt the plants. They turned white all over, and I will definitely try it again.
@@scarcorleon I use the UV lights with the timer set to start around the middle of the "daylight" time. With auto flowering plants I avoid having it on during outside daytime hours to avoid any extra heat as the climate where I live is very warm. This offset from the middle of their daylight time has shown no difference to the flowering plants, as far as I can judge.
Ive been using uva and b in my flower tent for a few grows now and the colours i see when the fade comes on is especially notable. the flavors have been great as well! the note on dating a day off between the uvb treatments is a neat thing I am going to add to my schedule. cheers!
Bose did research on this in grapes. They found out playing Bose speakers with classical music increased growth and increased sugar/brix in the plants, results were better flavor in wine produced at the vineyard with Bose Speakers. This is also proven in the Library of Medicine, plants with a certain vibration literally grow to the vibrations of certain hertz frequency. This is found in the tax payer funded Library of medicine pubmed search page, in many studies. Next level stuff, for sure
Also it reduced pests in the garden.. a double whammy to use this idea... Look below for the story "The network of speakers that delight Paradiso di Frassina’s vineyards 24 hours a day with the complex and lively harmonies of Mozart also allow the winery to reduce vineyard treatments, so no chemicals are used to protect the vines. Stefano Mancuso, a plant neurobiologist with the University of Florence who gave a talk on the roots of plant intelligence on Ted, has been studying the Mozart vineyard since 2003 and has found that sound dramatically reduces the number of attacks from insects and parasites who remain confused and unable to locate one another for mating. Birds and other animals who like to feed on the grapes also stay away, so there’s no need for the use of pesticides! The company Bose heard about these studies, donated 72 speakers and financed more research."
I’ve been meaning to get a couple radios In my tents for a few years now. Jus keep forgetting an being lazy but I’m gonna try it this time. Classical fm ftw
I got 4, just started them up 8 days ago for 2hrs a day and the trichome production is off the charts, also seems like the leaves started filling in possibly as protection as well, which I've never seen at day 55 of flower, This is already into fade, so leaf growth is unusual.
I like that video. My plants have had good soil mixed up, ph 6-6.5, 4 different and tried different led fixtures but the terpene profiles really suck. I'm going to try an uvb light and hope it's better
how long do the bulbs last, and how much are the replacements? Thank in advance for your time Good on ya for taking the time to get back in the past as well! Cheers
glass reduces the amount of UVB/A that reaches the canopy in a greenhouse or through a window when growing at home. UV exposure at safe amounts (for your plant products) encourages the plants to develop stress responses. Those stress responses can and often improve taste/colour for meals and even resale; as for Cannabis, does UV exposure create a greater concentration of trichomes due to this stress response? The 'increased potency' referring to the greater number of trichomes is where I'm thinking this product improves yield. I purchased the UV310 light from your store in late 2020 and can say it improves our food growth with taste/resins and the colours are more vibrant than with no UV supplementation.
As far as I know the best, high output ~280nm UV LEDs are now about 8% efficient (up to 1,5W, 6,5V / 230mA). Still far away from ordinary LEDs but getting better year by year. My main problem with the ones I know about (in addition to the price) is their extreme sensitivity to heat / short lifetime. Already at Tj 45°C they loose 30% of their output in 3000h-4000h. And at Tj 55°C they loose that 30% in 1000h-2000h. So you need very good heatsinking to get reasonable lifetime from them. When driven at 1W with ~26°C heatsink Tj 35°C looks possible. This might result more acceptable ~8000h lifetime.
Hey Shane, I ordered one just to support you and to give it a try. What you say sounds good, but I only believe what I can replicate in my own garden. Will report findings.
I really appreciate all of the information you share. I wish your products were available in the US, but regardless thank you for the efforts you put in to these videos.
Currently testing lower energy UV-C, 200nm-230nm @ 3ms-8ms exposure Per Hr (1.5w SqFt) Also...Discovered utilizing a 20 minute 10k led pre light, as a Phototropism lure, increases amount received . Time will tell...
Always learning.... really enjoy your hard work and quality of products. I used my (2) 310 UVB last two weeks. I saw the difference after one day! It Made a very pretty shield to protect that reproductive system. Very exciting....!
Do you know if Dr. Bugbee is going to accept the invitation to appear on Adam Dunn's show on 5 May, at 3:20 Pacific, to have a discussion in which conventional photobiology and Quantum Photobiology are compared and contrasted? If not, how about you doing such a show and letting me speak on Quantum Photobiology.
Imagine. A UVB robot that lasers leaf data into the robot, and then flashes UVB onto each plant that is deficient in UVB!! Wow, this is going to be invented. This is next level stuff
@@MIGROLIGHT , In your opinion, which lighting strategy would be more efficient and effective for cannabis at the seedling stage, directly following germination? T5 or a LED Grow light on a Veg. setting? Which do you use, and have you executed an experiment on this topic? I thoroughly admire your research and would greatly appreciate your opinion. -Loren
UV technology is already out there and many people use it in their grow.. It's just that LED UV are still not there yet.. If you don't use UV, you're missing out.. If you use MH/HID/HPS then you have UV already
CMH seem to have the most complete over all spectrum but yes MH and HPS or Ceramic HPS have more than LEDs plus they have far reds, however, there hot, expensive to run and not very dimmable. Best bet is full spectrum LEDs with UVA/UVB supplemental lighting in the form of a fluorescent bulb with UVB being the dominant spectrum. LEDs just don’t have the right mix yet for UVs. I just bought Migrows UVB fluorescent to add to my 1,000 Medigrow full spectrum EZ-8 LED. I bought 8 of them. I’m more than confident. Thanks Migrow. I researched it all for myself and he’s correct folks.
so the dr said not every day the last few weeks of flower, does that mean Monday its on for 12 hours, but not Tuesday , Wednesday but not Thursday? so just every other day?
Extremely useful video, thank you! I almost got a migro light when I upgraded but I had to go with something else just for budgeting reasons.. I do plan on getting that UVB light though!

People have been using the reptile UVB bulbs for years, that brand and Arcadia. But now, MiGro is taking over the game apparently for us growers. Awesome!!!
@@dertythegrower yes sir. The only problem with the reptile UV t5s tho is the UV-B emitted is max bout 10%. The Agromax Pure UVB T5 is 80% UV-B and 20% UV-A. Migros is pretty close to the Agromax. Just Migros is a T8 fixture tho.
@@timpage5021 Personally i would prefer the weaker reptile bulbs so i can hang them lower, or from the sides. With powerful UVB you have to hang 60cm above canopy, and that is above the lights. With Migro lights it may work nicely but not with other lights. Especially if your main light is 40cm above canopy, that means the UVB is 20cm above the main light. It could damage it i think.
Hi shane thank you for an awesome video as always 👏👏 one question I have about uvb diodes like the ones we find in the marshydro and argox ect, are they just for show or do they work ? As you explained florescent are more effective if not the real deal compared to the diodes, would really love to know about it as been building an led light and wandering if it's worth the uvb diodes, thank u in Advance
The older model Philips TL40W/03RS works. Not in the current Philips catalog, but "compatible" tubes are available online. Intended for salt-water aquariums, they're Not medical tubes, but do have a lot of UV-B. There's one catch: standard White enamel reflectors do Not reflect UV. The usual fluorescent bulb fixture must be lined with aluminum foil so it relects the UV. One-tube fixtures w/ reflectors are hard to find, so the smallest, lightest, two-tube fixture will work with a single tube. They can fit in a four-foot tent if they are hung at a slight angle to horizontal, on opposite sides of the tent, and halfway between the plants and the main CMH bulb, pointed at 90 degrees to either side. ( not facing down ). Two hours in the late AM, and two hours in the PM should be enough to trigger the response, but since the additional electrical cost is low ( 80W ) keeping them on for longer wouldn't hurt. Wear UV-proof sunglasses when they're on.
Hi, could you please tell me which side of the aluminum foil is better? The shiny or matte? I would assume the shiny side but i'm asking just to make sure. Thanks!
@@twentytwo138 I used the shiny side, but aren't really sure if it makes a huge difference. A side-by-side grow might settle the matter, but who has the time?
I have not been able to find any good information on a schedule implementing uv in my grow. I actually have the AgroMax uv bulb but it looks to be the same spectrum as the migro UV. I am wondering if you can give me a recommendation what time the schedule I should run it on in flower especially. I also saw Bruce Bugaboo say that you be in veg is beneficial and I am wondering what schedule you would use in the veg cycle?
I love the last interview with Andrew where they have all the varieties of plants being tested and you can see a couple Cannabis plants thrown in purely for science as well. These plants arent being topped or trained for yield in anyway, purely for study. ^_^
*I use 2 panels of 395NM UV LEDS lights / 100 Watts each during the last 20 days of plant life. I put them right beside the buds and you can watch the trichomes triple in size on the UV light side. The plant also becomes up to 200% more potent.*
Wouldn't it make the most sense to switch from LED's to CMH bulbs around the last 2-3 weeks of flowering, then? Seems that would give by far the best result.
I’m looking for some research specifically on implementing it as additional supplemental lighting in my grow room because my grow room is growing so much with a abundance of different types of plants no longer just tomatoes as we call them 😂
Hi so if I put for 15 minutes per day the last 2 weeks on flowering it's ok

I wonder if there are any studies on uv light effects in houseplants. For example UV might express more of pink variegation? Did you happen to stumble on any research into uv (and other lenght) lights effects on houseplants? Great channel btw.:)
Love your work, but still wondering about attitudes towards UV-C. Seoul Semiconductor has done a lot of research on it, including with horticultural partners. They systematically got the same results as with UVB, only using 10% of the power. As your video pointed out, UV leds are expensive. I paid the same for UVA, -B, and - C diodes, though after initial testing only use the UVC. Also, UV selectively boosts some terpenes and cannabinoids at the expense of others. This does not always improve the overall bouquet of the terpene profile. I had similar responses from insect infection.
you can use uvc. just have to keep safe distance from plants. uvc veg 48in above canopy. do not lower light. i use florescent uvc reptile bulb 18in 2 in 3x3 space. the uvc light tricks the plant into protecting its seeds. she will have sugar on her the entire grow if you start you clones out veg with uvc. if you start uvc during flowering you will see some leaf curl until she adjust. best to start off veg. allways turn that light off when entering space. My 3x3 space is extreme.I have (2) 1000w hps - (4) 32in uvb tubes (2) 18in uvc reptile tube (2) 90w ufo LED flower accelerator. i have auto sprinker and i use fog and watering system. i have a co2 generator also. i only use 1 pilot. grow room sealed. i grow using bubble soil technique.i play music the entire grow. i have 4 crops a year. i average close to over 2lb of buds and shake that i turn into buds using my special technique after harvest.
Migro please here me out... I'm a wild grower.. in the wild can a light be made for veg like in June uv light mimics the sun or flowering light that is like the sun after October 15 ,,, these are the 2two sun lights that I count on out in the wild grows???
My question is how does uvb travel? Like the light you offer, how far does it travel? What kind of coverage does it have? Is it like basic light, do i need 5 of these things to cover a 4x8 or does it travel further?
@@MrWater99844 yes absolutely if you haven't introduced it earlier then yea. If only useing it for last few weeks of flower id put it on a pulse timer and run it mid day light cycle 15 minutes on 45 minutes off 15 minutes on 45 minutes 15 minutes on 45 minutes 15 minutes on 45 minutes on. Say like if your light comes on at 6 am id start the UV light at 12.
I use UVA in my grow and it seems to do fairly well. I would love to purchase one of these lights. I'm the type of guy to grow my own worm castings, compost and even mycholrizal fungi and trichoderma bacteria blend. However I have no way of duplicating this lighting set up. So I'm curious, what kind of metals are in the florescent tube and also which gasses? How does it work Migro?
I’m looking at uv enhancement now and am kinda stuck between your uvb310 and rapid leds uva light. In your honestly opinion which Uv responds the best in cannabis?
Always something to learn. With UBA and skin aging and wrinkles, or UVB and skin cancer, I would definitely wear eye protection and keep those inside a grow tent. Funny how plants react.
We are seeing larger led lights containing an added diode for UVC. Given that the diodes already produce a small amount of UVC, do you think this is necessary for optimal growth to use lights with these diodes or overkill?
I have a Seasonal Affective Disorder light, it's it's biolight, I haven't touched it yet ,as it can be dangerous. But I was wondering how long I could apply it, 30 minutes a day at a few feet? I have no way of testing it's output but it's a 2 foot light
What is needed is a light fixture that has a seperate uv light that you can turn on when required. Switching lights in and out of the grow room would be too much of a pain
You don’t switch lights out, you run your uv with your led at the same time. You only run uv the first hour your led comes on and the last hour before it turns off
@@trademark256 That is incorrect, you are thinking of IR and Emmerson effect i believe. UV should be used in the MIDDLE of the light cycle, to stimulate noon when the sun is at its peak. Your schedule would mean that the plant gets UV in the morning and before sunset. But in nature those periods produce the least amount of UV. Also, if you use a more powerful UVB like the ones you mentioned in the video, it's gonna burn the plants if you run them all day.
What’s your thoughts on the UV diodes LG is producing and a lot of fixture companies are starting to implement ?? Curious because you mention 350-390nm is solid and some are stating they are producing 380nm. Just curious because I’m the market and between a couple options. Thanks in advance and happy orbit !
Also with these companies implementing them into their fixtures and them in essence being on every time you have the light on just lower/higher intensity as the growth phasing matures, do you think that’s negatively impacting the plants having to absorb a constant strength of UV from those diodes ?
Shane is it safe to assume that you got your UVB dosing schedule from one (or more) of these academics/guests? I know you specify 2 hours on, mid light cycle for the last 2-3 weeks of flower but I reasoned that if "some is good, more must be better" and after all, the sun exposes plants to UVB throughout their whole life cycle. So I started my "exposure" with one of your UVB 310's four weeks out from harvest at the same dose (2 hrs/mid-light). Just wondering if anyone out there has tried something like this and what kind of results they've noticed. I'm two weeks out and would sure hate to damage the trichs/terps/medicine this close to harvest. As always, thank you very much for sharing.
