How Does RU-vid TV DVR Work - How to Record on RU-vid TV with Unlimited Storage

To me, RU-vid TV is the best live streaming service with the best DVR on the market! With that said, the RU-vid TV DVR is also one of it's best features. The reason I like it so much is that the recording space is unlimited! I never have to worry about having enough storage space to record my favorite shows! And in this video I'll show you how use the DVR on RU-vid TV so you can record and watch all the programs you want!
Here's how to record a show! One way to do it is through the Live Guide. In this list, it only displays about 2 hours worth of programming on each channel but using the arrow on the right, I can scroll up to 48 hours ahead. Once I find a show I want to record like Friends, all I have to do is select it and click on the big Plus button to start recording. Now it'll start recording this episode as well as the entire series. And just so you know, it never records just a single episode. RU-vid TV will record every episode as it airs. But of course that's not a problem because of the you'll never run out of DVR space.
I can also record a show I'm currently watching. So I'm going to start watching Law and Order: Criminal Intent on live TV. And while the show is live on air, I can go to the bottom of the screen and click on the Plus button under the progress bar. When I see the red circle spinning around the check mark, I can confirm this show is recording. I can also uncheck it to stop the recording.
And here's where to access recorded programs. They'll all be stored in the Library tab. It's categorized to make everything easy to locate. And in the middle row, I can see upcoming shows that are scheduled to be recorded. But let's take a look at The Office. I've been recording this show for quite awhile. In the DVR it initially pops up with Season 9. But since RU-vid TV records every episode, I can access every season of the Office so I can watch every episode from the beginning. It's a cool feature that allows me to binge watch a long running series.
So far I've been showing you the DVR functionality on a web browser. But with the RU-vid TV app on iPhone or Android, I can watch all my shows on the go! To record a show just tap on the thumbnail and then tap the Plus button to add the show to the Library. Again, a spinning circle means the show is being recorded. To stop recording just tap it again. To find recordings on the mobile app, just go to the Library. And like before, all the recordings are categorized in sections. This is where I can find Law & Order: Criminal Intent that I started recording earlier through my computer earlier. It's been a few days since I shot the footage from my computer so now I can see that every season is now in my Library.
As mentioned before, I think the RU-vid DVR is absolutely the best feature of this streaming service. The unlimited space allows me to everything! Even tennis tournaments that last for 2 weeks! And there's a new feature they added for sports events like this. RU-vid TV now allows me to jump to the specific matches I want to see without having to scroll through the entire recording. The did something similar with the previous Olympics coverage as well.
And here's one last thing you need to know. While DVR space is unlimited, recorded programs will automatically be deleted after 9 months. But for me, I've never found that to be an issue. If I haven't watched something in 9 months I'm probably not going to watch it at all! If this video was helpful please consider helping me out with a Super Thanks! Can you set the DVR to record only one show the future? Can you set the DVR to record a certain show like all the phoenix Suns games whenever they air? Can you search for shows to record more than 48 hours to set the DVR in advance so you don't have to think about it. What can't it do that a DVR does or more specifically a Tivo?

However, I am wondering how to watch half of my sports even that has been recorded and then pause and start it back where i left off after I leave the Tv or ipad for an hour or so. It seems I have to fast forward to where I was to start it where I left off. Kind of annoying

So the shows just keep piling up with no way to delete what I want when I want, except I can just stop recording a series of course and wait 9 mos for what I don't want to drop off?? This is just stupid because I shouldn't have to wade through a bunch of unwatched and unwanted shows to find what I do want to watch. HULU makes way more sense, record and delete what you want when you want and it's simple to figure out without a tutorial. Soon as my RU-vid tv live monthly deal catches back up to HULU's monthly cost, I'm going back.

Unfortunately on some programming you can’t skip commercials. I don’t know which shows they disable skipping. Mostly what I watch I’m able to skip commercials so it hasn’t been a problem for me.

Yes it does and shows you save on your phone will also be saved on smart TV assuming you're using the same account/login.

I would say that I have been able to skip commercials on most shows I’ve recorded. There have been a few shows where I’m forced to play the commercials but haven’t paid enough attention to which ones and why. But for me 99% of the programs I record I can skip no problem. I’ve been watching current episodes of Survivor and The Amazing Race and have skipped commercials in both. I will have to pay attention next time I can’t skip a commercial. It’s such a rare occurrence when I watch shows from my DVR. Thanks for watching!

@@ryanjeffries3407 Because it makes it more more difficult to find shows you intended to keep and might want to re-watch. On a cable-based DVR, it was easy to watch a show and then delete it unless I wanted to save it for possible future viewing. So my viewing queue always consisted simply of shows I hadn't watched yet as well as a few I wanted to keep for possible re-watching or reference. Under the You Tube setup, everything I have recorded, whether I have watched or not watched, is left in a massive queue and there is apparently no easy way for me to keep separate the shows I have not watched yet, the shows I have watched but have no further interest in and just want to delete, and the shows that I might want to keep for later viewing. So for me and, I suspect, many others, it would be much simpler and more convenvenient to have the ability to either delete or hide shows from appearing in the list. I take it from your response that there is no way to do this, right? As an alternative, it would be workable to have the ability to order the items in the list for a particular show so that non-watched items appear at the top of the list, items you flag as wanting to save appear next and items you flag as not wanting would appear last. But I'm guessing this isn't possible either, right?

@rickmarshall345 That's my understanding and is the only reason I am not using RU-vid tv. I think it's a major flaw for which I am looking for a work around or solution.

I record snowfall on yttv but i want to watch it in 4k. When i go to my library every episode except the live one tonight is in 4k , which is understandable because it’s still airing now. My question is how long does it take yttv to uplothe vod 4k version of tonight’s episode? I have Hulu and it usually adds it at 3am if yttv does it earlier I’m going to cancel Hulu and keep yttv. This is my first week using yttv so I’m learning 😂I know this was a lot lol sorry

Your video is very simple and great. I am in the 2 day trial period and my NEW shows do NOT indicate "recorded" it shows released even though I have done everything else you have mentioned regarding the DVR. It that because I am in the trial period.

Recording a sporting event is just like recording a regular show. You can search for the event or find it in the Live Guide. When you see the game you want to record either click on it or use the arrows on your remote to reveal extra options on screen. Just select the Plus (+) button to record it. Also on sporting events RU-vid TV should automatically extend the recording time if the game goes overtime.

That is my problem too as many have commented, I wish I could delete already watched programs. My library is a mess of episodes. And no one is answering how we can extend a recording in the event of overtime play during a game. I wish I could set start and stop times like I could with Xfinity cable TV.

That’s why we recently changed to Hulu + Live tv. You can delete the episodes from the DVR. RU-vid TV DVR was a mess of already watched episodes and occasionally wouldn’t mark shows watched. We spent half of time trying to figure out what we had already watched. Also when I start recording a series I want to start from that point. Don’t go get episodes from 3 years ago and add also. No you can’t extend the time of a show. You would need to record the show that comes on next in case the game runs over.

How long do you have to wait to watch a recently recorded show? I have something that records on Sunday morning. If I don’t catch it while it’s recording I have to wait to watch it. I’ve checked hours later and it still doesn’t show up in my library…sometimes until the next day. With sports recordings this will be a huge problem for us.

A recorded show should be available to watch instantly. I’ve been able to watch a show while it’s recording by starting at the beginning. Someone else mention the comments that they weren’t able to watch a recorded program. I may have run into this issue once and I’m not sure why it happened. Sorry I don’t have a good answer for you.

Does adding a show or series to the Library as a scheduled recording use internet data, or is internet data only used if you watch the recorded show?

If you’re on a mobile device it would use a tiny bit of internet data when you schedule a recording. It’ll just be like surfing a webpage. It will not be large amounts of data like streaming video.

Here a silly question but do you have to be watching the show to record it. I'm want to record the celtics, hawk game 5 tomorrow but I'm gonna be at work so I can't login on my ps4 or my phone to watch it. Will it still record so I can watch it when I get home thank in advance for your answers.

No, you do not have to be watching the show to record it. But make sure you set it to record beforehand. Hope this helps!

I would sign up for RU-vid TV on a browser on a computer. But to set up recordings you can do it on your phone or computer. The app for smartphones works well.

How long does it take RU-vid tv to upload a new show to the library? Because Monday Night Raw ends at 11pm and I always work till midnight. When I come home the new episode is still not there.. I have to wait till the next day

When you record a show on RU-vid TV the show should be on the DVR immediately. Even if you started watching at 10:30 half the show would’ve been recorded and you could watch from the beginning until you reach live tv time. I haven’t experienced what you described but I’ll have to check one of my recordings to see if it’s available immediately when it’s over. Thanks for watching!
