Gotta feel for Renee, she's basically taking care of two kids--her husband as well as her baby. Women are often so burdened by their partners' problems with emotional or psychological dysregulation, like that's part of a marriage contract or something. An unfair expectation imo.

@@pendafen7405 you’re so off base it’s not even funny. First off, you don’t know what their marriage dynamic is like, so way to assume. Secondly, statistically, women have higher rates of mental illness, mood disorders in particular. So no, women aren’t “expected” in our culture to compensate for male mental disorders. In fact men are now expected to suppress all of their opinions, feelings, and values to assuage women so that we’re not seen as “toxic”.

Because you seemed pretty free and confident and undaunted to just dump yours on me (a woman) without any assuagement in this comment thread. I don't see anyone telling you what you can and can't say, you just did it with no one policing you. That comment sounds to me more like, "we can't say anything any more without a woman giving her opinion, when she should shut her mouth and make a sandwich." I'm concerned you don't realise it's the 21st Century... Returning to the main point: the marriage dynamic between Renee & Jon in particular doesn't interest me that much--having worked with women in abusive situations, I just know at a glance what a dysfunctional relationship of that type looks like when I see it. It didn't take more than a few minutes of me listening to this to notice. There's nothing wrong with self-preservation, and realising that even with the best of intentions or the most loving feelings, you can't save someone from themselves. Renee isn't doing something noble or even helpful wrecking and wasting her own life to help Jon, especially not with a kid involved--her baby and herself should be her first priority, end of discussion. Secondly: 'mood disorders' in women (nice casual misogyny, how dare females have estrogen that unbalances sometimes...) aren't nearly as dangerous or severe to deal with as a male full of testosterone with psych issues, and nor are they more prevalent---the reason you assume and say that they are more prevalent is that they are reported and treated more often, because women see their doctor more often and take care of their health better. A depressed or PMSing woman will cry, nest, maybe overeat or drink too much or neglect chores, before she gets help; a depressed man is far more likely, because of his *hormones*, to lash out physically or verbally, act recklessly, or worse to turn to addiction, and he probably won't admit there's an issue or seek help until he's hit rock bottom and hurt everyone in his path. Men often scapegoat emotional instability onto females, but which sex has the higher recorded historical rate of violent outbursts or rampages leading to criminal offenses? Oh, yeah, that's right... Also, I have never once IRL witnessed the social/domestic dynamic you've described, in which a woman with unbalanced hormones somehow(?) destroys a mans' life (men tend to walk out suddenly on women more often than vice versa, tbh), yet I have known of and seen dozens of women giving up their lives to rescue or endure damaged men. So either we're both living in very different worlds (which, fair, maybe that's the sticking point), or yours is perhaps a fantasy incel land...

Also, rigged court systems that rip children from fathers, men bankrupted by the evil divorce court system, all paint a different picture of suffering for men. I also love how your definition of damage is so narrowly defined that it negates those factors. In addition, no. Having a fancy degree and experience in a soulless system that teaches you archetypal signs about men and woman doesn’t make you qualified to be a fucking armchair quarterback for two peoples relationship you have no EARTHLY understanding of. You aren’t aware of their past, factors of their personalities, and other important indicators. With all of your years in “having worked with women in abuse situations”, I’d think you’d have figured out that you need to consult patients one on one before diagnosing a problem.

Your use of language is telling, btw. 'Men bankrupted by the evil divorce system'--meaning you reduce marriage to a purely monetary value, seeing women & kids as chattel in a transaction. Isn't that somewhat 'evil', if you want to use such morally-straitlaced and reductive terms as that? (I don't). 'Rigged courts' is another reach. Do you really suppose entire systems of political justice are specifically turned against the very group (men) who set them up and run them in the first place? That sounds like tinhattery to me. 'Ripping children from fathers'...ah, come on, you & I both know that the reason most fathers go for custody or visitation rights is to reduce or get out of alimony payments. There's more women with young kids on welfare or in shelters and the like because of poverty caused by their household income plummeting (after their husband/SO/babydaddy walks out) than there are men crippled by child support demands. @@redzzder7951 if women wanted equal rights, she has to support her husband and kids exactly the same and as equal as her husband expenses for her and their kids.. not to forget to pay for the house, cars, bills and etc.
