Mesmerized instantly by a 5-sec background music in a YT short, searched the phrase "the sky is gray" , discovered the Mamas & the Papas, suggested by YT in the right panel, I am here.
My favorite song , of course, was "California Dreaming." I was a sophomore in my high school at the time when this harmonic song was released. My girl friend at the time, introduced it to me, and I have grown to really like it ever since. Thanks Mamas and Papas!
Loved this group!! "Mama Cass" had a amazing voice and yes their voices were very good together,,they harmonized so well. Favorite song was of course " California Dreaming"!!
"Michelle's shocked". I see what you did there. Look how a clueless poster ignored your calling out the video for its dishonesty and tried to make it about Michelle. Shocking.
My name is Keith and I am a 74 year old Scot and to me Mama Cass is the greatest singer that ever lived, and although I love It's Getting Better, I think Make Your Own Kind Of Music will always be my favourite song and I listen to it every single day of my life as it has a special place in my heart - R.I.P. Cass 😢💔🙏
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and beautiful message for Mama Cass. We miss her. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
@FactsVerse Thankyou ever so much for your kind words and I'm sure you can tell from my words that I am a huge Cass Elliot fan and I am dreading the 29th of July 2024 as it will be the 50th anniversary of her death so I am hoping that somebody will show a video all about Cass's life as a tribute to her and her amazing singing voice and as I am a child of the 60's I would love to see more videos showcasing the singers and pop groups of that era as it holds a special place in my heart - With love, Keith x 😊❤️
She was absolutely fantastic, my Jockinese mate. It's always a pleasure to hear her voice and she left us far too soon but with some wonderful musical memories! She died in her sleep in London having earlier phoned Michelle Phillips enthusing about having received a standing ovation on the last two nights of performing at the London Paladium. This was told by Michelle during a TV programme (California Dreamin': The Songs of 'The Mamas & the Papas') some years ago.
This group can NEVER be replaced. Monday Monday and California Dreaming will NEVER be forgotten. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL MUSIC. it was beautiful when I was a kid when it came out And is still beautiful. AND DONT FORGET CASS ELIOT WROTE THE SONG LEAVING ON A JET PLANE. THEY ALL WERE TALANTED
The song California Dreaming moved me to leave West Des Moines Iowa, and move to LA in the late 60's and then on to Northern CA. and I am still there in the foothills of the Sierras.
I wish I was born in the 50s so I could have been old enough to see all these awesome artists play live . I hate being born in 90. The music in the 60s - 80s was soooo good
Yes, it was quite a time in the 50's and 60's.....I am happy I lived through that special time and I am as old as I am now! Had a good carefree life with some awesome music☮
They were each of my biggest Rock and Roll stars on the planet for years! My favorite Mamas and The Papas hits were: “California Dreamin’”, “Monday, Monday” “Words Of Love”, “Dedicated To The One I Love” and “Go Where You Wanna Go”. R.I.P. Cass, John and Denny💐🎤🎸🎼
Cass Elliott was one of my favorite members of the band. My favorite songs although written with underlined intent are songs I Saw Her Again and Creeque Alley. Monday, Monday and California Dreaming are also my favorite songs.
And "Go Where You Want To Go" , which IMO, could be recorded & released today and do well ... 12:30 song has great harmony "Young girls are coming/walking to the canyon" ...
it just struck me how important music was to people back then. there just seemed to be a lot of music in people's homes and lives, that it just spilled over into pop culture. the quality of songwriting and singing is unparalleled, especially considering what's out now...
Ranked up with hotrod cars, drugs and sex. My high school and college years were a rock n roller fantasy. Hello you hello me hello people we used to be...
Sad that Mama Cass Elliot's legacy was marred by the rumor of choking on a sandwich leading to her death and a clear attempt to make light of her being over weight..Her contribution to the music industry was over shadowed by false narrative meant to harm her reputation as a gifted singer and is disgusting..A beautiful soul i choose to remember as someone who shared her gift to the world through song and hopefully others will remember that as well...RIP Mama Cass
My favorite was Cass. Of note: It was Cass, who got Crosby, Stills and Nash together. She was sneaky about it. She invited each one of them to dinner, not telling the other two. "Oh and bring your guitar maybe we'll play a bit after dinner." She pictured/ heard each one in her head and thought these three would really be dynamic together.
Michelle Phillips is the surviving member. The band folded. But the influence continued through Wilson Phillips, with lead singer Chynna Phillips, daughter of the late John and Michelle.
John Phillips wrote a book about his life called Papa John. In it he details his life with the band, and personal life, including his drug addiction. One of the best books I've ever read. Not only is it very well written, the humor in his words makes it worth the read. It's actually outright funny at times. This is one of my favorite bands of the 60s.
even sadder is the stupid sandwich story. Just let her rest in peace. I weighed 75 lb more than now when I met my drop dead gorgeous wife 25 years ago. I'm a sweat pants wearing slob but I never get jealous or kick the dog, some people can't see past that. I've dated plenty of women that were "plain looking" and they were then and always have been beautiful to me. It's a sad and shallow world we live in.
The words of a producer when he first seen them " when John. Walked through the door he was as tall as you can be, when Michelle walked through the door she was as pretty as you can be and when Cass walked through the door she was as big as you can be " 😂
When Michelle Phillips was kicked out of the group, she predicted that she’d bury them all. Which she did. Although she gets no points for that. She was the youngest member, she was female and she wasn’t morbidly obese. So, anyone could have predicted that.
Mama Cass’s daughter reveals the truth about her death. It is an interview with Casses daughter and Michelle’s daughter. They explain what happened to Cass in her final moments. I was a huge fan of the Mamas and Papas! I grew up listening to their music and I was 4 and my brother and sisters were teenagers. It was a simple time back in the 60s and 70s. For me the music was awesome!
And Michele is still alive but they lie in the headline leading people to believe she has passed too-😡 And this is supposedly addressing “FACTS?!”?? Poor woman…it would be cool if she made a big announcement to the press that she’s still alive! She could really mess with their minds 🤔
I was born in 1969 but I miss the simpler, slower days I’d love to go back; even if it’s before the invention of the Walkman 🧐 Aha! 😆 It IS the Walkmans fault we learned to tune-out🤪
I progressed to the Walkman and now to a smartphone and earbuds. If I went back in time...I would bring my laptop, widescreen TV , and smartphone with earbuds and wireless charging.
@@FactsVerse Thanks. How about underrated or forgotten 60s and 70s comedians? I'd say I'd like to hear about Shecky Green, Allen Sherman and Willie Tyler and Lester
I always liked Michelle Phillips soprano voice a d I also liked Dennys voice.he also had a great sound and when all four would sing it was out of this world
I'm surprised you didn't mention her guest-starring role as Jenice Manheim in the Star Trek: The Next Generation first season episode "We'll Always Have Paris" (1988). I read an interview with her in which she said something to the effect that the Star Trek fans send her more fan mail from that one episode than she gets from everything else did she'd done in her life combined, including her time in The Mamas & the Papas.
Believe it or not, the house in London where Cass Elliott died is the same house where just 4 years later in 1978 Keith Moon died of a drug overdose (ironically in the same bedroom as well)! The flat was actually owned by singer Harry Nillson. Incredibly after Moon's death Nillson sold the property because he felt that it was cursed!
I'm a 74 year old Scotsman and I have loved Mama Cass since the first time I heard her voice and Make Your Own Kind Of Music is my favourite song of all time and I still listen to it every single day of my life - R.I.P. Cass 😢💔🙏🏴
You should do a video tittled "How each of the cast members of Gilligans Island died." Then not mention anything about Ginger and Mary ann still being alive.
Cass Elliot was also the "Mama" in the Three Dog Night's "Mama Told Me Not to Come". She had warned the songwriter about the party scene in Los Angeles, which was the area where the group was from.
John wrote ALL the songs!-Denny lead singer.Cass lead harmony,Michelle 2nd harmony. All their biggest hits teatured Denny as the lead, especially monday monday.
Echoing what another commenter posted, only three have passed on. The cause of death isn't mentioned for Doherty, so the title should be How Two of the Mama's and Papa's Died or When Three of the Mama's and Papa's Died. There's nothing wrong with accuracy and it isn't that hard to accomplish.
If Cass Elliot went for an audition today she wouldn't make it past the door. Pretty sad when an IQ of 80 and being able to "twerk" is considered talent. John Phillips had an "alleged and at times controversial" relationship with Mackenzie? Whatever else he did in his life is all undone with that sick behavior. It started when she was 19 and didn't end until the night before her wedding. I can still sing all the words but thinking about this pig getting his own daughter stoned and then sleeping with her turns my stomach. At least Chynna Phillips & Wilson Phillips seemed to turn out okay. And I thought my family was nuts.
Each one of them had individual talent. Together they gave many memorable songs. All good things come to an end and as such things do. There should be no sadness, their legacy is left and is playing on and still being enjoyed. What else is there to say.
Do you have any videos regarding story of Everley Brothers, Beach Boys or The Monkees also Ike & Tina Turner. Lastly also liked Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky. Apologise for the tall order. I am smiling here, I have given you a tall order, do not worry if it cannot be arranged. You did kindly ask. Really appreciate the work you are doing, great to see this media has great folks and is not all bad!
