At five is ridiculously early. IMHO. A story: My daugher and the child next door are the same age. My daughter - alternative school. Other child - state school. At seven my daughter couldn't read and we weren't bothered. At seven the teacher of the neighbour's child sent a note home saying the child was struggling with reading and action was needed. Her parents were needlessly worried. What would a test have proved? Shuffle forward a few years and both have to be wrestled away from books... Follow my drift?
