Funny how Pokémon Battle Revolution has a sleeping clause in the case you use Dark Void, but the games themselves can't stop you if you teach it to your Smeargle.
Earlier than Revolution, Collosseum, had battle features to turn off/on sleep clause, fixed hp moves, destiny bond, who the W goes to if the last pokemon explodes, and more. Wacky stuff
Social distancing challenge AKA the Socialocke (name credit-@Archon) : Only special attacking moves or non contact physical moves from the moment you get one. I'm doing this too, it's a fun challenge that has some difficulty especially early game Edit 1: For the people asking whether or not it should be just special or any move that doesn't make contact, I'll say that it's really up to you. It's still a good challenge either way. Edit 2: @Nukepositive gave a good suggestion saying to Nuzlocke the challenge but discard the pokémon if it is touched by a physical move. Edit 3: @Riley Wilson Epicarcher999 made the suggestion to instead of discard it you quarantine the pokémon until the next gym if you decide to try the nuzlocke version
@@LearningAI I'd assume every move that doesn't make physical contact is allowed. If you go on Serebii.net and go to Attackdex, if you're unsure if a move makes physical contact it'll tell you all the specific details of the move.
I'd do it for the memes, and then probably in the process find a strength in it that people overlook. Because if you spend enough time with something, you're bound to find a way to make it work.
@@exoltik3199 Go find a valuable use for Luvdisc outside of a laughing stock and I'll accept your position. Unfortunately, not all Pokemon are created equally, and anything Luvdisc can do, there's no doubt in my mind just about any Pokemon can do it better.
FlamingRok how about being one of the fastest swift swim Pokemon in the game and being the only swift swimmer in the series so far that can pass its ability onto its teammates (via entrainment) which means in rain teams in double battles Luvdisc can pass its ability onto its teammate to immediately get an attack off while rain is up. It’s not a top tier strategy in anyway but it is a niche strategy that’s completely unique to luvdisc.
@@mectainea5575 aight you got me. I don't think anyone will ever try it out since luvdisc dies if you look at it the wrong way, and that'd be a lot of work just to try and make that work, but fair enough niche.
9:27 Fun fact, the first primary flying type/solo flying type (if you don't count flying plate Arceus) was Tornadus in gen 5.. so every possible option of flying pokemon would be dual type flying pokemon
Smogon sets arent the most useful for the battle frontier since you are playing against AI not human players. The AI will 99% of the time never switch pokemon and you can take advantage of that a lot.
Being able to switch while your opponent stays in is so clutch. If you have a bulky mon that you can boost your stats on and baton pass thats great or just lead out with an annoying mon that can lower accuracy, confuse, poison and pivot out to your hitters.
@@birdiecAlso Baton pass and evasion and accuracy altering moves (specifically+Evasion and -Accuracy) are banned, so there's more options then in Smogon 6v6 Singles (which there's also that.) It's still a good general framework to start with tho, just remember that some Pokemon are better on bigger teams. I'm pretty sure a Regenerator Pokemon is a lot less useful in a 3v3 single battle then a 6v6 one. Still useful, but not as insane
I couldnt appreciate the battle frontier because back in the day I was a stupid kid who didnt know about competetiv battles. Even now, playing Platinum isnt an optimal choice bc I'm too spoiled with the improved breeding mechanics in newer gens. That said, I really wish we get to visit the battle frontier in BDSP so I can take full advantage of the Frontier
@@timucinkiylioglu4893 Inb4 Battle Frontier is just the Battle Tower with Palmer like the original D/P Although, if the Platinum's Frontier returns, it would be interesting Battle Hall would be more of a PAIN since it'll be longer with 18 types now, than the former 17
@@Proteus_Ridley I'm prepared to be dissaponted :/ None of the graphical updates from platinum did make it in the first trailer.. like the entrance sign in floraoma or this ice breaker boat in snowpoint... Hopefully I'm wrong tho
@@timucinkiylioglu4893 I'm surprised really. Platinum really improved the base game D/P, esp. the inner design of the Galactic HQs. Missed opportunity if they don't add those in
Do you realize how perfect your timing is? I just ordered a copy I found of platinum and arrives Monday. This is the first time I'll be playing platinum in a really long time.
@@IllBeDARNd basically replacement for the stars on the trainer ID, you get like 5 for the story, 4 for the dex, 1 for taking a certain number of picture, 2 from solo battle tree, 2 for duo battle tree or something like this.
6 are pretty easy because it's just main story. 5 are pokedex related, which is more challenging, but probably wont take too long as long as you find someone to trade exclusives. Then I believe 3 of them are battle tree ones, which will take a while unless you're a God at team building and iv/ev training. Then the pokefinder... that'll take a ton of time for a cool feature that's tedious after the first 5 minutes
I'm currently doing it, I already have all the story, Pokedex and Pokefinder stamps but none of thr Battle Tree ones yet. The story and Pokedex ones were mostly easy, there's only a few Pokemon that can be tricky to get like Vanniluxe. Pokefinder was really bad, just grinding photos on Mount Lanakila, took me two days I'm trying to build a Battle Tree team but it's really hard, since you need to get to level 100 to use Battle Caps This isn't as bad in USUM as you can very easily grind on Chansey, but in the originals the quickest method is rebattling the league a lot or using a five star Rare Kitchen in Festival Plaza which you unlock by getting to rank 50 there
You make it look so easy. Idk why the RNG is so good with you. The AI always makes stupid mistakes right when they can kill you. The AI when I play always go for the kill. Its so dumb. I hate the battle factory
Honestly, for the Battle Arcade, I can see a few scenarios where getting a negative status effect can be helpful, especially when using a Guts Pokémon like Heracross, Hariyama, Swellow, Machamp, Ursaring, or even Raticate if you're insane. Personally, in HGSS, I used a Guts Team and purposefully paralyzed or burned myself with a squad of all Guts Pokémon: Heracross with high Attack and Speed EVs, Ursaring with high Attack, Defense, and Speed EVs, and Hariyama with high Attack, Defense, and Special Defense EVs
Hi John, recently I started replaying pokémon soulsilver and with this I rediscovered my pokéwalker. So then I thought: “what if I capture all the pokémon that are availble through the pokéwalker”.And then I thought of you. Because you do these crazy challenges. So I hope you will do this one day. PS: sorry for bad writing, I’m not a native speaker.
I just started watching this video but I need to tell you that I enjoy your videos a lot. Not only you accomplish different things I never did in my playthroughs which means I always watch something new but you make everything entertaining. And I don't know why but your videos relax me so much. Thanks for uploading and keep up the good work!
I actually managed to beat Thorton in SoulSilver AND THEN THE GAME CRASHED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edit: Still trying again more than a year later. Sometimes, I cry inside.
personally, I would probably go for Garchomp over Salamence, but the two are really interchangeable and it's a matter of personal preference, either way, congrats on the easy sweeps
@@shadowtitanx3962 thank god they did, now i can play the game as truly intended *uses stealth rocks and switches for 50+ turns until one side gets bored enough to missclick and lose the game
Garchomp, Gyrados, and infernape would also be pretty good. Same type of team with different members but you would have to had picked chimchar to use it. I think this team would do the same thing with more accessible Pokémon because who wouldn’t pick the fire starter in gen 4. Only major issue is that this team doesn’t have para flinch but at a higher speed tier.
Ah the Platinum Battle Tower. The number of times I failed against Palmer's Cresselia because I was too stubborn to not bring anything other than my favorites. Finally realized Tyranitar is one of my favorites for this reason.
I actually had a solid team myself for the tower. It was incredibly annoying when i lost to a team that each had an ohko move. They landed 2 consecutively
2:33 I wouldn’t go with the majority of the smogon recommendations... The AI of the battle tower differs a lot from the actual meta game. Moves that reduce enemies stats are way better in the Battle Tower because hax (the AI) won’t exchange their pokemon even if you tricked a choice scarf on them an the odds for side effects like flinch/paralyze etc (should be around 10%) to happen are much higher. (Sometimes it feels like 50%) So you need a lead pokemon to set up the status conditions and 2 sweapers that cover the weaknesses of each other. Smogons movesets are built for a 6 vs 6 battle but you’ll have to cover everything with only two Pokemon that should have high base speed. This is only one of the many ways to build a team but I figured out it works really well. If you are interested...There are a lot of guides out there how to build the perfect team if you want to obtain a 100+ streak easily. I hope that helped someone, because it obviously missed the message of the video. 😅
I waited for this for SO long!!! Thanks so much for bringing this! I've been stuck at gold battle factory since June and cant get further than a lucky 43 streak
@@ayrton474 oh my god, kind of forgot i posted this but nope! Two days ago i had a really solid streak up until battle 43 again. I got absolutely swept by a poison team :')
@@froggerking7955 lol, wasn't expecting a reply. I ended up here because I'm currently attempting this, started yesterday and only made it to 28 so far. Good luck to you!
Your Challenges are insane man! The lifetime you are spending in doing those and the quality of it is worth atleast another 200k subs. Thank you so much for your good content!
13:43 Fun fact Thorton or the Battle Factory Frontier Brain will give you a random percentage of beating him depending on yhe team you picked up and stacked against him. The first time I fought he gave me a 67% and I won. The second time only gave me a 32% chance of winning, but I ended up sweeping him with just my Toxic-leach seed-giga drain Venasour so take it with a grain of salt.
I was gonna do this myself, but after literal weeks of failing the Battle Factory, I lost the motivation to continue. It's unthinkable to win 50 fights in a row with no losses while being expected to be prepared for literally every single Pokemon and move combination with only having a few rental options. It's ultimately just luck, and just not that fun to essentially keep flipping the coin.
also to say level 50 is, contrary to what johnstone says, easier than level 100, because you always know your opponents moves and evs, while in lvl 100 you cant know from battle 29 onwards. Additionally swapping a pokemon every battle battles 1-14 garuntees you 2 strong mons before battle 15, ready for the silver fight with throton. However without game knowledge its easier to get lucky and win lvl 100 accidentally than it is lvl 50
Soooo I just spent a month exploring the battle frontier (quarantine yeah) and I want to bring additional info for those wanting to try it: For Argenta's first match in the battle hall her pokemon is actually scaled to beat yours, you got lucky that her pokemon was slower and had a quad weakness to EQ, otherwise you kinda have to make plays to get through the first battle. I fought a choice scarf flygon with my Garchomp and lost for my first try (didnt have a focus sash, which i put on after in case this was to happen again), then fought an ice punch max defense lickitung that froze me, fought a max defence Donphan I couldnt even 3HKO for my second rematch and lost, fought a focus sash weavile for my third rematch and lost to ice punch+ice shard, and finally fought the Donphan again, this time setting up a swords dance on his protect and ensuring I could 2HKO him before he did. And then for the second match she just uses a random high tier mon which makes it 10 times easier, go figure. Also, for anybody else wanting to use Salamence, dont forget to start with ice AND dark (for potential weaviles) AND water (for all the bulky waters that know ice beam). Use a focus sash for these fights as well, that sure did the trick for my chomp, although leaving you exposed to ice beam freezes, which happen a lot more in the frontier than in the rest of the game because of the insane amount of rubberbanding there is there.
I got the gold print from Argenta recently using sash Garchomp and her last pokemon was a Magmortar🤣The freezing at 1 hp was annoying and so was the ai almost always hitting low accuracy moves. Had one streak ended by a Poliwrath that used hypnosis and 3 back to back focus blasts...
I've been waiting for this sooo long, thank you so much! :D I just love the battle frontier, never beat it all to gold tho... Mainly because I just use what I like, Sandslash for example, not the best competetive
Dude how did you BEAT battle factory?? Do people here even realise how much of a GOD at pokemon this guy is to clear all these facilites?? I think not I've been trying for almost 2 years but I don't look the sets online cuz I am not a cheater but I CANNOT for the LIFE of me beat this guys 😢
I had a similar situation as your shuckle problem in the battle factory. I had a magnezone against a cradily and had to have it kill itself with struggle because it knew -Sandstorm -Double team -Stockpile -Ingrain and was holding leftovers. Thankfully, my magnezone knew reflect, so I was good
Out of curiosity, would you be interested in doing a similar video for the Orre Colosseum in Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (all doubles and arguably harder than Emerald's Frontier at times, with strategies including having teams of all Intimidate users to Self-Destruct Snorlaxes).
Dang you really get lucky a lot. I would have given Life Orb to something that actually can heal itself rather than Salamence & hoping Outrage Kills Everything. EV Training was way too much of a pain before the days of Gen 6. Each Gen seems easier than the previous after Gen 3 from what I noticed. Gen 4 added more move, items, & Pokemon to make things easier. Gen 5 made TMs infinite use, Gen 6 made EV Training a lot easier, Gen 7 allowed any Pokemon you catch to get perfect stats as long as it was the right nature, & now Gen 8 has all the Gen 5-7 features & adds the ability to change Nature Effects on Stats. If the Battle Frontier were in Sinnoh Remakes it would be a lot easier than it was in Platinum.
Thank you so much for this video. It will be super useful for when I have to go and do this myself in HG,SS, and Platinum. I have to ask though: did you do any IV Breeding or anything?
The fact this man still hasn't gone insane after all these challanges still confuses me to this day. Still waiting on that every variation of spinda video though
Heya John! Maybe there are plenty of good videos out there already. But I don't ever know where to look. Might you be interested in making a video explaining EVs and IVs and how to train them? Loved this video. Keep up the good work
I’m just going to say that the Battle Tower/frontier has been super frustrating for me. I have a pretty solid team. Garchomp: nature - jolly, item - choice band, move set - outrage, earthquake, fire fang and dragon claw (filler move in case I don’t want to use outrage) Gyrados: nature - jolly, item - lum berry, move set - waterfall, ice fang, earthquake, dragon dance Lucario: nature - timid, item - life orb (went with this item so I’m not locked in one move), move set - aura sphere, vacuum wave, shadow ball. I still have yet reached Palmer for the 49th battle because I have had the worst amount of luck such as getting critical hitted or having the foe get some sort of secondary effect (mainly being freeze). I didn’t want to copy your team, but it got to the point where I needed a good special attacker that can hit hard and that’s somewhat fast. Moral of this story everybody, stick to gen 6’s Battle Maison. Breeding is not much of a hassle, EV training also not a hassle, you have access to unlimited TMs (unlike gen 4), mega evolutions, etc.
Let gyrados go first with the lum berry. This gives him plus speed and attack and avoids any Status so in the next turn its a 1 hit ko. Save garchomp for last or for a switch. Give lucario choice specs
The gist is that you are not able to use the OP ones, like Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, etc. Only the non-major ones, like Bird, Beasts, Regis, Latis, etc.
@@Kev.in1997 do not use Smogon terminology Smogon is not a official competitive metagame it is only a fan made environment. The proper term that you're looking for is restricted box legendaries and mythical Pokemon mythical Pokemon would normally be allowed but it's because of their distribution that they are not.
@@shadowtitanx3962 The PWT is fine, my issue is that it didn't really feel like it had as many fun rule variations as the Frontier, but it still wins a lot of points with me for the nostalgia value. The Subway, Maison, Tree and Tower are really meh. And remember the Battle Agency from USUM? What a joke!
@@TomsSauce i actually grinded out the agency for those gold bottle caps. Man, was it frustrating. You either get a Lv 100 partner pokemon and it's a breeze or both of your borrowed pokemon are stuck at Lv 50 essentially making every battle a 1v3.
I think the battle frontier is really cool. It a shame they dont do it anymore. When i was a kid I would be trying so hard to beat it in Emerald but unfortunately I couldn't beat any of them
For battle tower I used Uxie with trick because the AI’s don’t switch out Pokémon, so that made so I could build up dragon dance or sword dance on my other Pokémons with substitute on so I could win easily, and I got to streak 100 so I got a trainer card star ⭐️
I was using this same strategy. Got to battle 100 and had out my subbed +6 garchomp. Opponent only had Mamoswine. It was holding lax incense though and I missed 3 earthquakes in a row. Never been more sad in my life.
What natures were your Pokémon? I’m gonna use this team and can’t decide what I should do for my salamence. Especially since he has 1/3 of his moves being special, I don’t think I want adamant. I’m considering a neutral nature that way I’m neither specially or physically less defensive
I lost a streak of 47 in the Battle Tower because I missed Heat Wave twice in a row, and I lost a streak of 35 in the Battle Arcade because I hit the "swap teams" tile when my opponent was a Bird Keeper. *My* Zapdos 1-shot everything - for her team.
Another great video though, I've never took on anything like this because my knowledge of competitive is nonexistent at best. Also saw my name in the chat at the start. So I've got that going for me right now.
In HG, I got the Battle Hall Gold Print with my faithful Latias. She was so awesome in how powerful she was despite Synchronize catching her to be a Cute Contest winner when I would trade her to Platinum
Cool video as always! I’ve never beaten the Battle Frontier before, maybe I will look into putting a team together. Though I suppose I could just rip off yours.
I challenged the battle frontier and I got the silver prints for all them except for Thorton My team consisted of Dragonite Tyranitar and typhlosion can I have your thoughts and critiques?
I've played the Battle Factory in Emerald so much that I've now developed a good sense of what's good and what's bad in the Factory, and yeah -- Shuckle is absolutely is one of the most annoying pokemon to face in the Factory (Snorlax is the biggest nuisance for me).
