This is the ranged version of the summoner, melee, and mage runs we've done. We can only use a blowpipe to deal damage, but we can use any armour, accessories, potions, and other buffs. It's an interesting combination of endgame gear and a very early game weapon that you would usually never see.

I feel like the darts should be considered legal for this challenge - choosing ammo as ranger is akin to choosing your flask as melee imo. And if that's the case, ranger is a very clear winner here. Would be cool to see a wooden bow run for similar reasons - ammo selection can make for interesting strategies!

I also throw my lot in for darts being legal! Guns and bows are the most versatile weapons for a reason, because they use ammo. If you didn't want to focus on that, it should've been the paintball gun chosen for the challenge. The pistol or the wooden bow would have the same "issue" as the blow pipe here- would you be forcing yourself to use wooden arrows or simple musket balls for the entire game?

Well this way we can see how far the armour and gear can take the seeds, then when that doesn't work, we can show the power of the darts. If I were to use darts the whole time, they would destroy everything in seconds. Maybe that's more accurate to the concept of the video, but it wouldn't be very interesting to watch and would be over in 2 minutes.

@@WandofSparking Again, the same concept applies to the swords, with the various flasks you could use. Additionally, you didn't use the normal poison darts, or the crystal ones- at least not in the video- you only went straight to the cursed flames and Ichor. I can understand your point, but I think that doing a comparison for a baseline gun, bow, or the blow pipe is much harder than the others because of this ammo problem. And since you allowed different flasks for the sword, It's my opinion that other ammo types should be allowed.

There's a mod called W1K's Weapon Scaling mod, that lets you craft "tier" upgrades/downgrades that change a weapon's damage to be on par with weapons you find around the same time as the crafting materials, i.e. crafting a shadow tier upgrade will give an item damage comparable to weapons around the point where you'd beat Eater of Worlds/Brain of Cthulhu. For example, I did a whole run with a Snowball Cannon, upgrading it periodically over the course of the game. By the time I got to Moon Lord, the base damage of the cannon was over 100. It managed to be relatively balanced the whole game. I'd love to see runs using that mod, because theoretically it could make any weapon challenge balanced.

@@alicemeyer3824 yeah, but in the later bosses they struggle IMMENSELY, im on some of the pre moon lord bosses you use wings, asphalt, and frostpark boots, so they expect you to go fast, therefore the boss is really, really fast, and summons suffer immensely. The xeno staff(one of the MOST reliable summons) only is attacking like 1/3 of the time, because it spends its time catching up to me instead of attacking. That makes the fights a whole 3 times longer, and keep in mind summoners have the lowest survivability out of all 3 classes.

Darts would have been totally fine the whole way through IMO. It would have felt really odd if you had done say, the flintlock, but limited yourself to musketballs.

moonglow = +18% dmg at night fireblossom: all attacks gives on fire! and deal +4% dmg in the desert and +10% dmg in hell daybloom: +8% dmg during day since daybloom can be found pretty early shiverthorn gives frostburn deathweed inflicts cursed flames for 2 secs and post mech cursed inferno waterleaf gives a 25% dmg bonus in water and blinkroot gives either 10%-20% dmg based on how bright it is idk just thought this up

Darts are most definitely legal. Its part of engame gear, just like accessories and armor. If it deals damage on its own, its not legal(like stardust set bonus). That being said i would love to see you do this with guns and bows

It's not even endgame to be fair. By the time you need to kill mechs - you have all the darts. So it's 100% fair to use them at that point.

This has been a great series! Have you ever thought about doing Boss Drops Only run? Something along the lines of only using only boss weapons/armor or their drops to craft those! You could just use lava to kill King Slime, though I'm not sure it drops any weapons.

It doesn't drop a traditional weapon...but it does drop the slimy saddle, a mount that can deal summon damage by bouncing on enemies heads, and it is actually incredibly powerful against the EoW(also I think itd be better if he had to use the starter copper gear to kill King Slime than lava), and even better this challenge is 100% viable if you include tools in the restricted items list too

Idea for a challeng: Start with the Last Prism, but no mana crystals, only armour to boost your mana, accessories are optional.

Make it the weakest armor that u can get for that class, like if you were doing melee then use molten armor, or ranger and necro, or magic and jungle (or just a gem robe if you feel like it), or summoner and bee/obsidian armor

@@Gamerawsome3010 Melee's weakest armour is Shadow (with Gi from travelling merchant for chestplate) - Ranger's weakest armour is (as of 1.4) fossil, Magic has gem robes & the Magic hat from travelling merchant (jungle for legs, I guess) - And summoner now has the Flinx Robe since 1.4.1, replacing bee chestplate.

These videos are always interesting. I also love the “rare” opportunities I get to use darts! Cursed dart’s shower effect demolishes the destroyer, crystal darts bounce and pierce which is great for crowd control (as well as cursed darts), and ichor splits.

You forgot one big factor of the DPS meter. It doesn't count crits meaning you are actually doing more damage than it looks!

@@WandofSparking For Blowpipe: If you used the stinger + shark tooth necklace you could ignore double the damage. Also, since flasks applying potion effects are allowed for Melee, is it not reasonable for ranger to allow hitting bosses with one dart every so often to apply an affect? It's a bit of a weird exception to make, but makes sense considering the umbrella playthrough. Would make prime possible.

Hmm, idk how I feel about the darts. On the one hand, they feel like the ranged equivalent of flasks, but they also add a significant amount of damage, so I don't think it's the same. And with just seeds, it still did better than the wand, so I don't think I'm counting the darts, personally. I just finished all 4 of these videos and it really is interesting how far some of these weapons can go. It's also interesting how you can make engaging and captivating videos without a mic. I'm so used to voiceovers that this almost feels nostalgic. Great content!

That’s the great thing about ranger class. You can get the projectile behaviour and effects from the weapon and/or the ammo and make powerful combinations. It also helps that the damage output is affected by both elements. It’s very flexible that way.

It would seem that with the blowpipe (with seeds), it is superior than the other weapons in that it has range, making it easier to survive as well as able to take out the twins easily, but lacks in pierce, making it struggle against the other two mech bosses. Theoretically, it can take out moon lord without exploits or other weapons, but that would take way too long for the core. When used with other ammunition, the blowpipe far surpasses any of the other weapons. The wand of sparking had little pierce, though not enough to matter. It also lacked much range, and those combined made it struggle in many situations.\ The finch staff had respectable dps, especially for a starter weapon. It had plenty of range and pierce, though struggled during the cultist fight, as it wouldn't target the right cultist. The umbrella had quite high dps, and possessed a little pierce. It has pitiful range, though its build is a natural tank, making this less of an issue for bosses such as destroyer. However, it struggles to get in close against fast bosses, struggling against twins and outright failing against moon lord. Some of these may not be accurate, as the only one fresh on my mind is the blowpipe.

I think the critical strike boost on sniper scope is better on blowpipe than the damage boost itself because said damage boost just isn’t enough for its incredibly low base damage.

Ok, now do it in reverse. Zenith with wooden/platinum armour, ranged with Sdmg and fossil, magic with worst gem robe a prism, summoner with terraprisma and flinx robe

If your power only goes out for a few seconds during thunderstorms, you could look into getting an uninterrupted power supply (UPS). It's basically a surge protector/power strip with a battery in it that you plug your computer into. So if the power goes out, you still have ~15 minutes of battery power.

mith: when falling if you teleport at the right moment just before crushing, you are alive and teleported to home but the death message on the left lower angle (like "name" didn't bounce) and the death sound and particles still appears.

You should do the first armour set for each class and early game accessories but use the endgame weapon

Darts are basically the best in terms of boosting what ranger already does best (allows you to use up one shot for a status effect of your choice being Ichor, Cursed Flames, or Poison) while also doing normal damage with crystal darts

You probably can take the seeds further with some minmaxing and reforging. For instance, if you switched out wings for something to boost damage or pierce armor, you might have better luck.

you should do bring back the 1.3 throwing class using fossil armour and shurikens or grenades as a finally for the series the throwing class.

challenge idea: you start with a zenith and nothing else (not even copper tools), but you also start with only 20 max hp and 0 max mana. you're not allowed to use life/mana crystals, and only can equip one accessory at a time (accessories in vanity slots are okay though)

in case you do any other ranged wepon in this sort of challange, here's an idea: use only ammo that is pre-hardmode, so that you cant just shred everything with luminite bullets and such
