For those of us with solar panels the cost of fueling the car is zero. Hard to beat that.

How many? I'm considering this option

Maybe if you got the solar panels for free, which I doubt you did. In the long run, I'm sure it's far cheaper, though.

Living in Kentucky has at least one advantage. Having low electricity cost. Good video. I appreciate your content. Thanks for doing the videos. Btw, it will cost me $404 in electricity to drive 15,000 miles in a 24 M3P. So this is .029 cents a mile which is crazy cheap.

15,000 miles x 284wh/mi ÷×1000 (for kwh) = is 4260kwh. At $0.1175 per kwh, that's exactly $500 for me to drive 15,000 miles. Impossible to do even in a Toyota Prius with 150 HP

Kevin is really selling me on a Tesla. Always kinda liked em and I’m at $4.70/gal for 93 in my wrx. Granted I have a work truck for my daily but I’m looking to get out of a 6speed for a weekend/ after work driver. Good series of videos man

Premium on Maui is $5.50 just down the street from me. On my TOU program, I'm paying 50 cents a Kwh (don't know where you came up with 39 cents, maybe on Oahu) and I came out with ~ 40 mpg equivalent. But, to drive my 2024 Model 3 performance with a really heavy foot, leave no emissions and have the torque of a monster, I'll take it.

There is a tendency for expensive gas to be in the same places as expensive electricity. Where I live gas is about $3/gal, but it doesn’t matter at all what the cost of electricity is, anywhere, at all, if you have a rooftop and put solar panels on it.

Informative and well thought-out. I appreciate the perspective on the M3P.

It depends on your electric supplier. I pay .04 per kilowatt on time of use. The highest I pay is .2 between 2pm and 6pm.

Electric price has really gone up due to inflation. Pre-Covid home charging for me is like $0.13/kwh, and now it has gone up to $0.2/kwh. But still, way less than fueling up. But if supercharging, I would say for the same amount of money spent, you would drive similar miles compared to fairly fuel efficient gas car (like 35mpg).
@Intervention302
@Intervention302 3 месяца назад
Correct, supercharging is significantly less cost effective. Again hammers gone the idea that if you can't charge at home, don't buy an EV

I live in Hawaii, but also have electric included with my rent and no cap on utilities(house has a bunch of solar panels and leasing company fronts the rest), so the cost of "fueling" a garage with two Teslas here has been...let me do some math real quick....uh...zero.😅 I understand this scenario is not typical, but also remember that 41mpg cost equivalent was done with the average price of *regular* gas here and not the premium you correctly cited for almost any 500+ hp car in your local calculation, so the cost comparison would be better for the Tesla if the Hawaii average for premium were used. Even using that "worse than actual worse case scenario" 41mpg price equivalent, you'd be hard pressed to find a 10-second ICE car that gets anywhere near 41mpg anyway though.

Premium gas in Hawaii is showing at $5.14 according to AAA. That comes out to 45mpg! So basically ylu3 have the economy of an Prius, but with 510hp!

Good video...In Canada, my rate per KWh is $.07. However, when you factor in all the fees and charges it comes to $.023 (distribution charge, transmission charge, rate riders, local access fee) -all in that is around 53 mpg - not that great really. If you partially portion the fees out, as I will pay them regardless I have an EV or not...still puts me around maybe 80 mpg. 80 mpg is very good.
@Intervention302
@Intervention302 3 месяца назад
You can of course drive more efficiently as well if you try. Depending on the route and style of your driving, I've been as low as 180wh/mi

105 miles for 1 gallon of gas. So you pretty much have a 2 gallon tank. 10% to 80% is only about 210 miles.

Technically roughly 2.5 gallons of gasoline in the battery in terms of energy stored.

The 2024 Chevy Tahoe is only a 15 MPG city / 20 MPG highway vehicle. Fairly inefficient to say the least. But watch this: the fuel tank holds 24 gallons. So you’ll get 360 miles of range in the city and a whopping 480 miles on the highway. So my question is, why is a Tesla deemed more efficient, when a Tahoe has significantly more range. People think Tahoes & gas guzzlers are inefficient’ yet they have huge tanks that allow them to average 420 of range (city/highway)!!! So what do you think really matters at the end of the day? Think about the Chevy Tahoe.
@Intervention302
@Intervention302 3 месяца назад
One gallon of gas has roughly 33kwh of energy. Meaning the Tesla has roughly 2.5 gallons of gas in the battery in simple terms. It then takes that 2.5 gallons and goes 300 miles.
@Intervention302
@Intervention302 3 месяца назад
Furthermore, IF the Tesla was carrying the same amount of energy in one charge as the Tahoe holds in a full tank, the Model 3 can drive 2,800 miles. Yes, 2800 miles. That's what 20mpg Vs 115mpg does
