LOCATION: Vaud, Switzerland
DATE SHOT: July 20th, 2017
Wingsuit pilot Laurent Frat flys from an alpine cliff in Valais region in Switzerland. Using a special high-frequency GPS called a Flysight, Laurent is able to stitch the GPS information from his flight showing how fast and far he is able to travel in his wingsuit before he deploys his parachute.

how far can glider wingsuit travel ? starting altitude = 2910m ending altitude = 1414m total vertical distance travelled = 2910-1414= 1504m total diagonal distance travelled = 3400m total horizontal distance travelled = 2\/3400^2-1504^2 = 2\/9297984 = 3049m

The rough out answer of course it can travel two times farther than it falls providing a glide ratio of approximately 2.0. Very impressive without hang glider.

At certain moments his airspeed was 140km/h and glide ratio 4.57. That would make his vertical speed approximately 30km/h or 19mph. If he landed on a landing area with an inclination of 12° using some landing gear attached to his suit, he would not theoretically even need a parachute.

I see from videos that Hang Gliders do achieve far much more incomparable horizontal distances than Wing Suiters You just did 3.3 kilometers of horizontal distance... despite that the Wing Suiter speed would reach 270km\hr Hang Gliders world record is 275km of horizontal distance The Wing Suiters always in their flight try to keep as much as close to the vertical rocky surface of their mountain.. they don't mind to see the full world from above.. just they jump, and after few seconds they open their Canopy

Well, you quite wrong my friend. Laurent choice to follow the hill wich was much more interresting than just flying staight out. for that he had to go in a dive quite often, loosing a good glide ratio. But his stable glide ratio was around 3.5, wich is excellent and mean that he could fly 3 and half time the height diference if he wanted to. 3.5 glide ratio is better than the first hang glider and the first paraglider and believe me, this is flying more than you will never know

The intention of the vid doesn't correspond with what is shown. If the purpose was to glide as far as possible like the title suggests then making turns which bleeds altitude much faster makes no sense. It's like asking how fast a car can get from a to z and doing it on a course with bends instead of a straight line. Would've loved to see a real distance attempt from a certain height.
