It was either drown the dog or die. The girl would of most likely been raped & killed plus the dog would of been killed as well.

Only the production quality was good, but its theme was superficial! the plot was uneven, it was boring and inconsequential.

I had to read it more than once to really understand it. What I think is this: She had been raped as a young woman. Her daughter, the mother of her granddaughter, was a product of rape, possibly incest. She raised her daughter, who later died at a young age, possibly in childbirth, and that’s when she became the legal guardian of her granddaughter. That’s why she was so afraid of her granddaughter being raped, because of her own experience.
