"Sicario" is a tense and gripping thriller directed by Denis Villeneuve, released in 2015. The film follows Kate Macer, an idealistic FBI agent played by Emily Blunt, as she is recruited by a mysterious government task force to combat the escalating drug war along the U.S.-Mexico border. The team is led by the enigmatic and morally ambiguous Matt Graver, portrayed by Josh Brolin, and the shadowy Alejandro Gillick, played by Benicio del Toro. As Kate delves deeper into the world of covert operations, she becomes increasingly entangled in a web of moral ambiguity, violence, and deception.
One prominent theme in "Sicario" is the blurred line between good and evil, as the characters navigate a morally complex landscape. The film challenges traditional notions of justice and explores the consequences of engaging in brutal tactics to combat ruthless cartels. The tension is heightened by the morally ambiguous nature of the characters, particularly Alejandro, whose motives are shrouded in mystery and whose actions raise ethical questions throughout the narrative.
The movie also explores the impact of the drug war on individuals and societies on both sides of the border. It depicts the harsh realities faced by those caught in the crossfire, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing conflict. The cinematography, characterized by hauntingly beautiful landscapes and intense action sequences, adds to the film's atmosphere of suspense and unease. "Sicario" is a thought-provoking and intense thriller that delves into the complexities of the war on drugs and the moral compromises made in the pursuit of justice.

One thing I need to clerify for all my non-Spanish speaking brothers and sisters out there is the part where Alejandro sneaks up on the cartel members exiting the car during the highway shootout scene. The subtitles read "In peace. In peace." That is NOT what Alejandro is saying! He's actually saying "Compas! Compas!" Which is short for "Compadre" which basically means "fellas". He's basically saying "Fellas! Fellas!" while trying to defuse the situation. Just wanted to clear that up. Carry on.

One of the important things to understand about Alejandro is that he doesn't work for the CIA. He works with the CIA. His actual employers are the Colombian Cartels who have CIA connections and mutual antipathy for the Mexican Cartels. He is an actual Sicario. That's why the film is titled Sicario.
@SuLu_B
@SuLu_B 3 месяца назад
I would say it's one of the most important things about the movie in general, because without that, a huge motivator for Emily Blunt's character is removed (her disdain for Brolin and Del Toro). She signed up on principle to destroy the cartels only to find out that she's being used in order to play political chess. It also adds a dose of cynical realism to be reminded that our government has done shit like this before and will continue to.

My favorite exchange is right before Alejandro goes to “waterboard” the Cartel Lieutenant, he runs into his former lawyer buddy in the hallway, who tells him “I’m sorry for what happened to you.” It’s easy to assume he meant what happened with Alejandro’s family, until you see him smoke the entire cartel boss’s kids. Upon further reflection, maybe that’s what he really meant, the monster that grief turned him into. I love double meanings like that.

Secario is a trick movie. We are meant to think it’s Kate’s story, but it’s actually Alejandro’s story all along, as seen through Kate’s eyes. Kate tells us Alejandro’s tale from the point of view of an honest cop, shocked and ultimately broken by the experience. That’s why it’s a great movie.

19:03 Please note that the 2015 Sicario movie may be taking place in the mid 2000's. Take a look at the Tahoe Convoy. Also refer to the kits and weapon mods. Also the fashion. Alejandros glasses etc. Fast forward to the second movie and everyone looks much older. Newer kits. Newer cars. Better tech. Modern fashion. Matt also states how the first method dint work when he was getting briefed by SECDEF. He stated that the game has changed from drugs to people (People modern day, Drugs up until late 2010's). I think these specific reasons is why the "drip" isnt good in 2015 Sicario. It's because people were still rocking beefy kits and Milspec M4's with older Eotechs/Aimpoints. Brand new A4s, ACOGs and PEQ2s and Interceptor Vests with ultra heavy plates.... AT4s and torn up saws way past their service life. I don't know if the NVGs or the plates were the worst part but it wasn't good, gen 1 SAAPIs were retarded and the NVGs were 14 or 7Bs and the bulk were the cyclops that ruined both eyes for one narrow picture. True criminal justice only exists in a monoculture without corruption. Even our rudimentary concept of "justice" in the United States functionally amounts to the victim(s) of a crime literally paying - through taxes - for the offending party to be placed in a glorified version of "time out". In the real world - full of plea deals and activist players in the judicial system - justice can only be achieved through more direct means. That being said, I already know exactly what I would do should some degenerate take my wife and son from me; what the movie depicts here isn't even in the same ballpark. It helps to fear neither God, Satan, nor any man.

the main thing with Alejandro gillick is that his life was so torn apart by the cartel that his mind stopped thinking about civilian life . he took his life and his main story is not working 9-5 and living the normal life , but to find and eliminate every enemy by his own ethos . its like creating a monster and unleashing him on the ones that made him that monster . look about his moral code , there is no right or wrong there is a clear goal . even after he took down the cartel boss he continued on to finish off everything they represent . --- the reason he cleaned out his family is that without emotions or moral involved he knows that the enterprise will live on with his family so he killed the entire wolf pack .

On the subject of morality, i know a guy who lived some very similar things to alejandro, but he went the other path, and built a new family and now his profession is one of healing pain. The life he lost and the tragedy of losing a family didnt stop him, and now, with a new family and countless people blessed by what he does in very tangible ways. He arguably defeated a much hard beast to conquer, the man is a hero. I find it an interesting parody.

This is one of my favorite videos that you’ve done, admin. I watched another YT video a few days ago about Sicario, basically detailing the fact that Alejandro is the protagonist, even though the majority of the story is told from Kate’s perspective. I like the bar scene where Kate meets Shane, mainly because of the song playing in the background, Half Empty by Keith Gattis. ‘There’s somethin bout the whiskey, it goes down good with Haggard songs, yeah this glass might be half empty, oh but it won’t be for long”. Great tune that I can’t find streaming anywhere. Nice job again, admin.

I live vicariously through these movies. As one who worked undercover in the "War On Drugs" you have no idea how much I wanted to go full Scicario. Alas, I admit we have lost this war. The state I live in has essentially decriminalized the very drugs I was trying to get off the streets. It was very frustrating. But, I enjoyed these movies and others. Being a grandfather I am trying to influence my grandchildren the best I can. Two are in college across the country so don't have much contact with them but one is close, and young. His parents are anti-gun but I've been given permission to teach him! He got a Red Ryder for Christmas. He loves helping me reload. Maybe there is hope.

Hold fast pops, don't despair or give up all hope on the youth (at least not yet anyways); I see stuff happening all the time, almost every single day which not only greatly frustrates, confuses and/or discourages me, but most of all, leaves me with the strong feelings of very little to virtually no hope or optimism for our newer, up & coming younger generation(s)... but every now & then I come across someone such as yourself, and that, coupled with how I raise my kids and now seeing how they're turning out, are the very things that leave me optimistic & positive that there is perhaps still valid hope for us & them... stay steady, keep doing exactly what you're doing... that's all guys like us really can do. Oh and btw... the very first "firearm" I ever got as a kid, and subsequently got for my son when he was old enough, was precisely that sir: a Red Ryder .177 cal lever-action BB gun. Ahh... a man after my own heart! Stay frosty, and Semper Fi sir. Weapons Free

Sounds like the "parents" are some card carrying dingleberries. Sorry, not sorry. Guns are tools, and nothing more. If theyre anti-gun, they better be anti-sword, anti-axe, anti-baseball bat, anti-hatchet, anti bow and arrow, etc. Sorry, probably one of them is your kid, but i refuse to let my children ve qeak or ignorant. If they wish to bot own a gun? Thats on them, and i will give them an earful over it. But to be literally "anti-gun"? Id have major issues with that. I cant expect my 40lb daighter to beat up 40lb boys in her class, i should expect her to beat em up wheb shes 120 and theyre 250+? Gun rigthts are womens rights. Guns are the ONLY thing that has actually kept america safe from invasion until this recent "passive" invasion thats being done. I mean f*ck, in the 80-90s you could afford to be anti-gun, there was a good chanc nothing bad will happen to you. Nowadays? Nah. Im not letting my family drop off like that. And if someone should happen to hurt them at some point, it will get handled one way or another.

I fucking love the Sicario movies. I personally think the gear discrepancies were fixed more in the next movie as gun culture became more mainstream. Also side note about Mike Vinning, that picture of the Operators doing PSD around the helicopter is actually not him, just another guy who looked like him. Vinning and his friend Dennis Wolfe are considered the fathers of Special Operations EOD. Vinning is also, as far as I know, the only EOD tech to have a combat infantryman badge since when he came back to Delta, he changed his job in order to be promoted in the unit. All in all, great video my man, hope you do more of these!

Alejandro (Benicio del Toro) was one of the most fascinating characters I have seen in a long time. In the beginning of the film, he came across as a loner, a cowboy (the scene where he is standing outside the private jet, looking on into the distance). Kate sees Alejandro taking a nap and he jumps in his seat (flashback)-so now we see he is suffering from some serious PTSD-at the end of the film we discover why (his wife and daughter were killed by the cartel). In that meeting with the Marshals and the Deltas before they pick up the prisoner: Alejandro looks like he is not even listening to the man speaking: he is distracted, thinking about something else. As we can see at the end of the film, Alejandro has one objective in mind: killing the cartel boss and his family. The intriguing thing about Alejandro is that he used to be a lawyer; he was trying to use the legal system in Mexico to prosecute the cartel. When his wife and daughter were killed, he changed tactics: he became a hired killer, a hitman, a sicario. Alejandro was lethal and efficient with his sidearm; his skill was surgical; he was emotionless, passionless-he had ice in his veins. Alejandro was brutal, blunt (especially to Emily Blunt) and decisive. He was a wolf in the land of wolves. Alejandro: ‘Nothing will make sense to your American ears. . . But in the end, you will understand.'

The analysis of the main characters, the historical background of the drug war and breakdown of real-life border crisis and how it ties in to the cartels --- in other words providing useful context, and that whole bit about Delta plank owner Mike Vining inspiring Steve's character was total chef's kiss (and holy sh!t, those vintage Vining photos presented during the detailing of Mike's career were the vibiest vibe that ever vibed)... All in all, this was great.. It was simply fun to sit down and watch.. Wouldn't mind more along these lines.
