My mum's been saying this for YEARS (probably since living thru the 80s - I'm totally onboard with Kim there - it wasn't even attractive the first time around)
Modern fashion is exactly the reason why I'm going backwards and transforming my wardrobe into vintage. And by vintage I mean the classy stuff spanning from the 1930s to the early 60's. You know, the stuff that was supposed to enhance and compliment women's natural shapes?
We now know that the real luxury clothing items are yoga pants, sweat pants, cotton tops, and giant sweaters. We will never again fall victim to the fashion terrorists!!!!
Would love a Kim/Lola collaboration where Kim is Lola and Lola is Kim. Adore you guys! I share your VERY RELATABLE videos with all my friends and family. Sending love from CA!
Thank goodness my Teen Queen daughter has learned to dress to flatter her shape. Yes she’s tall, long-legged and slender as a reed. Yes, she’d look good wearing a shapeless sack. But she’s decided she likes to look ‘different’ and doesn’t care much for fashion dictates and has defined a style entirely of her own that’s fun, funky and really flattering. It combines vintage, off-the-rack basics and ethnic clothes, and she gets lots of compliments. Same goes for the jewellery she picks. Nothing is expensive (I should know as I hold the purse strings) and her looks look really pricey and put together. She regularly asks to brows my closet and will borrow items (but returns them). Friends and classmates have already asked her if they can go shopping with her when the pandemic calms down because they really like her style and refusal to bow to the gods of fashion. She’s got an eye for what would look good on whom and I think she’ll have a great time and make a lot of her friends very happy with her advice. I couldn’t be more proud of her (and relieved for my finances’ sake!)
Yea, I’m pretty sure they do say, “what are can we get them to wear?” I’m also sure they say, “what do we want to implement next? Okay. What disaster can we come up with to make that the solution too?”
Get building that bunker - I've seen them in stores in the past year (I keep hoping it won't take off but so far everything else has - have even seen some bubble skirts 🙄)
@@scatteredseedsofhappiness3285 Yaasss!! My grandma used to try to get me to wear dresses all the time. I always thought they made me look bigger than wearing fitted pants!!
@@ambermac77 if the dresses are fitted they would look nice too, it's just that nowadays it's hard to find clothes fitted at the top (with back and breast darts), it makes a world of difference
Kim, you are not wrong; this is EXACTLY how I see it, and always have. One difference, though: I've always envisioned male designers having this conversation. Women designers and woman-run houses tend to create clothing that's classics, stylish, comfortable and wearable (Chanel, Claiborne, Karan etc) because they want women to actually wear the stuff lol. Even Betsy Johnson, who is one of my favorites and was the one who inspired me to want to become a designer myself back in the 70s (yeah, I'm that old lol) makes designs that are fun and 'girly' but still able to be worn every day. McClintock's Victorian inspired dresses are huge right now in the secondary market (I sell vintage). BTW, it looks like you were channeling Betsy with that white wig :-) and those 'prairie grandma' dresses are all over social media (not in a good way), as seen at Target--hah!
When this pandemic ends and we’re allowed in public spaces again I’m gonna start dressing like Blossom from the 90’s. Overalls, huge sweaters, and jaunty hats 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
My husband has been saying for years that this is how it's done. They get in a room and say "yeah, this year we are gonna make them wear cocktail umbrellas in their hair and tee shirts with a picture of fruit on them, and maybe a pair of handcuffs around one ankle. Go!"
Hilarious!! My friends and I are seemingly always coming home from a store saying “Do you see what’s back in NOW?!” I love the fashion boardroom- keep it coming!!
I don't care what's in style. I have figured out what colors and cuts of clothes I look best in and wear them despite what the fashion moguls say. I'm 54 and can't wear most of what's out there because it is TOTALLY not flattering on me.
I thought the same thing. It wasn't until the end of the video that I realized those are "current" fashion items. UGLIEST EVER!!! I may stay home until this fashion season passes...I've been home for a year. I can stay home for another year if that's what we have to look forward to.
Are there really people who haven't hugged their loved ones in a year? It worked on me for about 3 weeks and then we couldn't take it anymore. I've been hugging my mother, dad, grandparents and my sister and anyone else who wants to hug ever since! 😥
@@cindybailey465 I didn't see step-dad for a year and a half only to next see him when he died of cancer last month. He only knew he had cancer for a little over a month and it was figured out because the mind went first. In the same way mom got really weak from not leaving her house for over a year and is now in rehab after a stroke and they say it's not related to anything. I know over 200 who got C, I don't know of anyone who died of C, but I know two people who died after not seeing family for over a year, I know of people who ODed, I know of people who couldn't take it and took their own. Not saying people didn't die of C or I never heard of people who knew people. I just know I ended up in the hosptial for flu but masking didn't stop C for us and I only knew a few people that needed the hospital for this and they all said the same thing, the nurses were more scared than they were. Thing is I know people who had to jump hoops to get meds and others who went into the doctors for something that wasn't C and they got placed on the C floor, just in case, and no, that wasn't befor they knew better or had tests. It's like they were trying to... Only God knows. At what point did slow the curve become your not allowed to get ill with this so die alone from something else?
Sorry if I sound like I am hurting. It's okay to hurt. I don't think anyone was "kind" by keeping people away from family, friends, and church where we needed to be the most. There is no evidence that it even slowed the curve, if anything, not letting those who were healthy get ill when the hosptials were empty over summer actually prolonged the whole thing while also making people put faith into things we now know didn't work, such as masks, according to the studies news hides. And don't say but we don't know the long term effects of C unless your going to be honest and think about how we also don't know long term effects of the new style of V we are trained to treat as savior. We had this forced on us in order to go to school and not have colleges being a prison, oh wait, prisons set people free in 2020, it was only colleges that thought it was safer to keep 19 year olds locked up in dorms not even to leave their room. We are told to call that "science." How is it even legal to deny access to education based on medical treatment forced on you? Doesn't the 14th amendment ban making 1st and 2nd class citizens? Just because the stuff happened doesn't mean it was right or made things better. We need to be humble enough to question. So much was truly done wrong and even from the start some people pointed out the issues we are now seeing would happen. We called them crazy in our pride but they were right even if I couldn't stand how they said it and rather self-label as kind and on the side of science but there has been nothing kind or scientific about it even if the news picks and chooses how they say the data to keep us in line and emotionally make us feel like not hugging our family for over a year and not putting faith into a trail was the right thing to do. Thank goodness the people getting sick now are not even being tested for C, after all they had their V.
I took my 16 year old daughter to by an Easter dress yesterday. So many of the dresses had necklines that practically revealed her belly button like the orange/brown one. Why so much cleavage?!?
It’s possible that that dress was inspired by the weight everyone has gained in the last year. Also, the world is such a mess that little house on the prairie feels like a safe space.😊
I've seen some that look okay and it probably came from people being homebodies during quarantine, but the trend is so out of left field that I just don't get it.
I swear every single video makes me cackle and I sing the outro with Penn now. This one particularly hit home bc I'm about to turn 40 and you will PRY MY FLATTERING TROPICAL WRAP DRESS OFF OF MY CORPSE, I AM NOT A PIONEER ON THE FRONTIER
I SAW those clothes at Target and just stopped and tried to picture my 5'3" body in that shapeless earth colored dress. nope. With the giant sleeves, too? Then next to it was one in three huge stripes of tie-dye. They were the most unflattering clothes I'd ever seen. Thank you for making me laugh this morning! You were incredible!!!
I have the same problem with most clothing I buy! 5'3" at 114 lbs, (yes I'm healthy 😅) and smaller curves. Everything normally swallows me!!! 😭 And then finding sizes small enough in styles I like is a pain!
Yeah no thank you. I actually like my body and I'm not trying to hide it. I think the baggy jeans are terrible look for me too since I'm 5'2. They just make me look stumpy and hide my hips.
You are in luck, a friend of mine posted an ad for them on Facebook so they are out there. With the lace and floral panels in the flares and everything.
The good news is that we're now all so used to buying clothes online we have a greater range than what's in stores and can just ignore what they're trying to snow us into buying
"Those are terrible, let's make a lot of them! " You are amazing! Thank you so much for providing us with the best content and makibv us smile at these times❤❤❤❤
At least the mom jeans has might teenager slightly more covered than the 90s thong showing jeans. But the crop tops are still too popular. Hope to just see sweatpants and oversized t-shirts in fashion soon.
Props to Penn and editing team! Either that or Kim kept the wardrobe department jumping with the number of wardrobe changes! Only fashion trend missing was western wear/urban cowboy!
😂😂😂 this is so true! Who are these people we allow to tell us what's cool? Aren't they just people like us? That's why i don't follow trends, i just wear whatever i want whenever i want, it's my body after all.
Loved this, you read my mind. I went on the store the other day, and saw what we refered to in the 70s as grandma dresses, as in only your grandma would wear them! Especially now it looks like they brought a lot of old fashions back that are not a good look on anyone.
And on April 1, 2021, fashion designers around the world let out a collective, "April Fools!!!" And social media laughed and said, "I knew it all along. No way that was for real."
It's been with us a while unfortunately. I can remember about 5yrs ago I was shopping with a friend and we both agreed that all this referring to all things 80s as retro was making us feel so OLD
Took my 15 yr old shopping on Monday and was thoroughly underwhelmed by the offerings. (She thought they were great though.) There was a colour of purple (?) in Aritzia that I definitely once created by washing white underwear with black jeans and a red sweatshirt. Aritzia also had a wide variety of brown clothes whose palette was defo inspired by someone’s toddler 💩 after trying new veggies one at a time.
So on point!! Years ago, I figured out store catalogs MUST be using skinny models in a size 2 while advertising the small dress in size 18. And the part about put it at the entrance so women will KNOW it's fashion... PRICELESS!!
My mum and I used to play a game. What's the price of ugly? Super expensive shop. Even more tragic clothes. She would be turning over in her grave. But we'd be having so much fun
I went 80's with my hair. Wings out on the side. I don't give a hoot. It makes me happy. And if people don't want to associate with me because of my hair. It's a win.
The clothes are getting bad. It's all the ugly things of the past back in stores to torture us! I teach high school & I tell them that everything comes back. My mom always said that and she sure was right.
Oh Kim! I connect so much with this video! My 25 y.o. daughter has changed her wardrobe with the times, but just raiding all my clothes from the 90's & now the 80's... yes I'm a hoarder of clothes! Well, I was!🤣🤣🤣 Btw: she does get the best compliments!🤗😎😀
The Hubs and my kids tend to dress me. Left to my own devices I just buy 3 of the same pair of khaki cargo shorts and the one shirt I like in black, navy, dark green, and burgundy. Apparently that’s a fashion don’t. I don’t see what the big deal is. I haven’t left my house in a year.
I was shopping the other day and not only did I see these "fashions" but I saw early 70's polyester pants, POLYESTER!!! Like that wasn't a nightmare then. Nothing says a fun hot, humid summer like wearing scratchy plastic pants.
