119mph trap speed. Legit 11 second car with a good driver and traction. Looks like it's slightly ahead of the Camaro's I've seen on the mph out of the gate. You'll see some cars crack 120mph and 11.6 stock is my guess. Excellent performance from the 5.0. The 5.0's respond better to boost than the 6.2l in the Camaro. Better cylinder heads and higher rev. capability. Good job Ford!

Noobs. If you must run on street tires just do a quick rolling burnout to get the trash off the tires. ROLLING burnout, do not sit in on spot. It also helps in getting some VHT on your tires. But going to the track on street tires is stupid to begin with if you have less than 4 wheels spinning at once.

Ford underrated the horsepower on the new 2018 Mustang GT. Based on your trap speed of 119 mph and weight of the car that new Coyote motor is pumping out close to 500 HP.
Mind you, the DA WAS -1384ft, at a temp of 45 degrees, which was easily worth a couple of mph, and more than a few horses. Not the greatest for traction though !!

I see people are already saying it, well, I AGREE. The problem is too much of a burnout. When you heat up street tires, you are bringing the oils in the compound out to the edge of the tire, actually making them more slippery! 1-2 second burnout just to clean them off, and I think you’ll be closer to 11’s, if not in the 11’s. If you see lots of smoke, it was too much. Drag radials are the exact opposite. Important tip.. if you go to drag radials, upgrade your half shafts. The stock half shafts are designed to handle street tires. Put on drag radials without beefing up those half shafts, and you will end up with a broken car.

LMR has it at 12.0 already on stock tires. And on DRs did 11.8. I still find it hard to believe our 4 door sedans are a tenth or two behind this car that's around 800lbs lighter and only 25 less hp.
Very impressive time and trap speed out of a Mustang GT! As a reference for you, that is just about the exact time and trap speed I ran with my 1999 Viper GTS, which at the time was the fastest thing on the road. Modern muscle is really awesome! Enjoy.

My 1970 Mach 1 ran a best of 12.78 in stock trim (with slicks) 351 Cleveland, 4-speed w/shaker hood. This was back in the late 70's. I still have the time tickets, but sadly, I sold the car many years ago.

Almost every mustang I have bought has been used mustang, I buy them off 2 year leases with under 20k miles, and get massive discounts. There is only one thing I check... oil change history... if the dealer or rental has oil change records.. I have full confidence they cannot harm a stock car driving it hard, the 3.7 and 5.0 engines were made to be driven hard never had any issues with them from being driven hard... these engines are not the same engines they put in a 4 cylinder economical car that can be bad if driven hard / revved high a lot... these engines were literally ENGINEERED to be operated at a high RPM it loves to scream at 6000+ RPM shifts as long as the car is stock the ECU will shift at a more than safe RPM before engine damage gets anywhere near close.. it isn't the 1920's.. these engines are on a entirely new level.
@guerrerok90 Tell a mechanical engineer that high RPM is not good for "any" engine and he would laugh at you... literally the dumbest logic... let me guess fighter jets weren't engineered to perform at high speeds safely? Let me guess 5 , 6 liter sports car engines were not made to be driven at a significantly higher RPM than a 4 cylinder economical car? Comparing apples to oranges... you take a eco car and a sports car and drive them both hard.. the eco car will fall apart but the sports car will have no issues if both cars had regular maintenance... different engines engineered for different operations.. in vehicles one is not designed to rev high on the regular and the other one was therefore its much more durable and can withstand such over the life of the engine

well it's been proven that this new engine is underrated by ford, now we all knew the 10 speed was gonna be a game changer and still 120mph stock, no matter what altitude you are on a N/A engine is crazy.
That blue whip you gonna need more than e85 brother. This look like it will play with a lightly modded 6th gen and that's stock as is. A stock 6th gen would be a driver race with your mustang with e85
He actually lowered the air pressure on a low profile street tire..LOL. With a stiff sidewall that causes the center of the tire to cup inward and you have less tire on the ground which equates to less traction!

Just as a Mustang historical point of reference, back in the day I owned a '65 HIPO Mustang (aka K Code) with the solid lifter HIPO 289 C.I. engine rated at 271 H.P. with bias ply tires and a close ratio toploader 4 speed and a 3.50:1 ratio rearend (In other words a stock as delivered vehicle) and my best times were low 14's, and that was speed shifting (no rev limiter in those days so you better not miss a shift with the gas pedal pinned and the engine at red line) and with the rear tires air pressure down at about 25 lbs as i recall.

Hi love your videos. I look forward to more in the future. I’m from Australia. Just put my deposit down for a 2018 GT Mustang. They are not expected to arrive till July at the earliest. I’m trying to find out is the car lower with the performance pack if not I will have to get it lowered as they seem a bit to high in the back end. I want to enhance the profile of the car on the road. I’m sill not sure if I’ll get a manual or auto I’m leaning towards the auto. Thank you for keeping me informed 👍
I was very suprised After driving the 5.0L mustang they are much faster stock for stock than the HSV LS3 6.2L cars/utes. Having owned hsv cars in the past with the 6.2L. They only go good after adding a super charger or turbo kits. The 5.0L mustang doesn't need the forced induction to go fast is a great deal. I can see why they are so popular. With a supercharger or tube kit the mustang would be crazy fast. 🤪
Nice man. Pretty good for having less than 500 miles and on stock tires. Put on another 10k miles, and as you stated, get your 60' down to 1.9x and you should see 12.0x at that strip (love Atco) with those weather conditions. Not sure about breaking into 11's with the stock tires though. But that's an easy fix 😉
Great vid ..new guy at the track with a new car ..real life, no bullshit.. mustang 5.0 is actually the same engine used in some older Ferraris. Same engine just a different firering order ..the different fire order is what gives the 5.0 it's distinct sound ..

If line lock isn’t available always make sure to lock it in 1st gear with adv. trac off before burning down. Then to launch turn the adv. trac on but then turn off regular traction and launch in 2nd Gear at 2500

I know virtually nothing about drag racing but all in all, with a brand new car that you're probably still getting used to yourself, that didn't seem too bad to me. The one thing I noted, it seemed like you had a rather healthy hesitation on the second run between the time the timing lights hit green and you actually took off. The other lane was well on their way before you started moving. Did I miss something there?
Steven Rhodes no. The timer starts when he trips the light. It just effect his 60ft time. He's not getting into the 11's because of tires/track condition
If he was racing the other lane reaction time comes into play (first number on the slip) but if its a test n tune it doesn't matter as much as concentrating on the car and getting a good launch in - he was only racing himself in those passes.
Best part is your daughter in the back seat excited when you accelerate. Better watch it. They grow up and become speed demons like my adult daughter. Nothing better than times with your kids.
Good MPH. Your 60ft issue is that you're burning the piss out of the stock tires. You'll never get them to hook like a drag radial, or a slick, so don't try. Getting them hot like that only makes them greasy. Give them a "quick" spin, just to clean the rocks, dirt and debris you picked up in the staging lanes and that's it. No more than a second and a half, then "drive out of" your burn out. Don't stop in place. Experiment with tire pressure, but don't bother dropping it any lower than you already have. You could literally run them flat and you're not gong to get any sidewall deflection. Too low of a profile and the radial casing is too hard. Honestly, It may even run faster with a little more in them? You'll have to experiment based on weather and track conditions that day. Jack your front tire pressure right up to the maximum though. Reduced rolling resistance is your friend. Not sure how much torque the 2018's are seeing off idle, but you may want to consider foot braking, or rolling into the throttle to avoid "flashing" the converter. If you don't have the traction, flashing the converter with a dead pedal punch is only going to break your tires loose and hurt your ET's Work on getting them under 2.0's and start fine tuning from there. It's going to be tough on a 19" tires to do much better than that.

Reason for the 119 was due to DA at -1388ft ??? 45 deg , 42% humidity , and baro press 30.45 !!! Yeah let's say whatever track altitude at that track and you see a DA around that ft you'll lose that 2 mph . Which is about 20-25hp , the power of good AIR !

That some great footage. It's really interesting to see someone with a brand new Mustang who is not only not afraid to take down to the track and get on it but is eager and excited to do it. Check it out Brenspeed just came out with a video on how to bump up the stock setting 100hp.with some fine tuning. My view is thats the best way to go over blowers and stuff as far as reliability and not having to rebuild the engine to handle boost.
Yeah I'm sure in the year 2018 a stock mustang GT will break within a couple months from driving it hard in stock tune sounds about right.. I mean it wasn't engineered to be driven hard or anything its only a economical car
You're running radials, give 'em a spin to clean 'em off and don't take a bunch of air out, my 2006 Mustang GT with a Vortech went 12.1@115 on street tires, you're not going 11 anything on those tires, trap speed is one thing, 60ft rules, you can't get a good 60ft you're going to be happy to go mid to low 12's or you're going to buy real drag radials. Nice 2nd run though considering the spin and horrible 60ft time, damn with tires you will easily go 11.8's 6 tenths off with tires will be easy looking at the 60ft.
Never NEVER drop your tire pressure that low on a stock radial. It actually causes the tire to go concave on the meat of the tread. It's not a slick or drag radial. It has harder sisewalls for handling
It’s a double edged sword. In order to get a better time he will need to come out of the hole hard and that means stress on the axels and drive shaft and transmission. Back in the day they would put a 3500 rpm stall speed converter on a car to get the best possible hole shot.

No brake in time?? I just bought a 17 gt car has 600 miles and car has not gone passes 3500 rpm, you shouldn't go passed 4g's till at least 1,000 miles.
I waited till 1k miles on mine I did some pulls on it around 500-700 miles dont remember exactly but at 1k I pushed it constantly. Don't need to baby it so much tho I will say that tho
I'm pretty sure that guy at the beginning is wrong, I've read the NHRA rules a bunch of times and it says faster than 11.50 you need a 6 point cage, and faster than 10.00 you need an 8 (maybe 10) point cage. But I guess it varies from track to track depending on their rules and if it's an NHRA sanctioned event/track. I know I don't want to put a cage in my car, so when it's done I probably won't be able to take it to the track.

Steve Riddle I noticed that, reduce car weight, no passenger, 1/2 tank fuel, get foot off brake sooner, minimum tire spin off line before full throttle .

If so, thats a fast ass GT...My triple black 93 GT on 18" Saleen 5 lug 5 stars got "borrowed"...basically stolen for 15 mins, by a "friend" at 10 am after a bangin Halloween party while I was passed out in a chair...and wrapped it around a Caddy full of old folks at 70mph in a 40 zone, about a quater mile away from where I was sleeping. I was headed to the 1320 that very Sunday afternoon to hopefully break into the 12s for my first time. What a shitty day. Be safe in that monster.
