As someone that used to work in veterinary radiology for a hospital for specialty surgery, I can only imagine what kind of orthopedic problems these animals are predisposed to due to their stunted forelimbs. They’re cute as hell, though.

I think a lot of people are misinformed about munchkins. I own two. Let me tell you they are fast as anything when they want to be. They love to chase and play like any kitty. They jump perfectly fine and are actually faster around tight corners. They also like to stand on their hind legs A LOT like a little meerkat which is cute so they can get a better sense of some of their surroundings. Yes, mine are indoor cats too but tbh most indoor cats tend to lead happier, healthier and safer lives than outdoor cats. I would like to introduce them to a harness one day and take them into a garden (if I get a place with a garden). Mine have been checked multiple times by vets during their shots and they're perfectly healthy. They're extremely loving and follow me around like a dog. Not everything you read online about munchkins is bad. Like with ANY SINGLE BREED there can be health problems of course. But a good breeder will always make sure that only one parent is a munchkin to ensure the safety of the kittens and their health. Please do real research and talk to people who have owned/own this breed. They can be perfectly happy, healthy kitties with a lifespan around 14 years. Katie and Frankie are adorable btw.

Although different traits can be nice in pedigree cats making their legs shorter is more like causing them difficulties and in my opinion should not have been done. These modifications should be outlawed.

So their living room speed is about half the regular pet cat speed. Love how people are calling them deformed as they simply have Achondroplasia, the cat version, basically their Tywin Lannister cats . It's a natural occurring thing, and yes people pick these cats for this feature and breed them for it, but Munchkin cats produce normal kittens and munchkins. Also it still happens in nature, my friends farm cat had a litter with two munchkin kittens in it, and they didn't even know what it was until a year into it. They kept one and she's just fine living the farm cat life.

Munchkin cats are just cats that skipped leg day. (They're so cute though! 😍)

I had a cat who was a natural mutation of a munchkin. She had a lot of health problems, and she had trouble loosing weight (she got over weight easily, making the health problems worse), but I loved her dearly until she passed away. She lived a long happy life of 19 years and watching these videos reminds me of her and makes me miss her even more.

A perfect example of humanities selfish creation for more cuteness at the cost of the quality of life of these cats who were born to this breed.

Just get me wrong if you'd like to... But who ever made this cat breed has did the biggest mistake in his life, it's not about cuteness.

Munchkin cats are perfectly fine with short legs, so long as not released into the wild. A good comparison would be a corgi, they're just fine and happy with their lives as munchkins.

This comments, omg.. .. Saying they shouldnt/cant breed this cats is like saying That dwarfs cant breed either... This cats are healthy animals. Its not a deficiency, its not "man made", its Just the way they are. I had the same thoughts about this cats, but a quick search took away all the doubts I had. They are funny, lovely, energetic. They can run and jump Just like any other cat. Obviously they don't jump higher or run faster than other cats, so what? Do they have small legs? Yes, but that does not imply that they are disabled. They do not jump higher than a leopard nor run faster than a cheetah, just as most cats dont. They are normal cats, formed from a genetic mutation, with some health risks to them, ofc, but not more then other animals with a new genetic mutation. They live as long or longer than other domestic cats, do not require much health care from their owners, are friendly, fun and energetic. Now, like I said, OFC they may, I repeat, MAY have some health problems due to his condition. Spinal problem, for exemple, can (high probability) kill them during the first 3 months of live. They can have some bone problems to (on the legs, ofc). The controversial aspect of this story is the breeders. Why? if two of these cats come together to mate, the kittens will die, because the gene that causes this kind of "dwarfism" is deadly in double dose. This race to emerge has to be breeder betwen a munchkin with short legs and a munchkin with long legs.

It goes to show that while they're not quite as quick and graceful as normal cats, they can definitely do more than you might think! I know not everyone likes munchkins because of their limitations, but I think leg shortness is absolutely nothing compared to the short snouts bred into some breeds that cause breathing problems.. Same can be said for some short or flat snouted dog breeds that are considered "cute".. Cats are very flexible and adaptable creatures. Even kitties with missing legs can do well with proper care and a safe home. But there's only so much that can be done for respiratory problems..
