The Flash is the fastest man alive and perhaps the most iconic speedy superhero in pop culture, but exactly how fast is he? What are the extents of his powers? And what would they imply in real life? Is this scarlet speedster bound by any scientific explanation, or is he just too far across the imaginary axis to make any sense? Well, logical or not, we've got numbers, and there IS a cap on how fast anything can get, so he must have a limit somewhere, right? ...Right?

Well you know, when you come in 4th on a list of fastest things ever, at 2.7x10^11 x c, (and we don't even know if that was Superman's top speed), you tend to think you're pretty damn fast. :) (I got that wrong...he was 5th in this list. And still beat out Dr. Fate's helmet, the USS Enterprise at warp 11, the Millennium Falcon and the Silver Surfer.)

The problem with the Flash is that the writers at DC are not creative enough to make use of the Flash's full abilities. He is so overpowered that he could take out every villain in the universe in a fraction of an instant, so they have to de-power him just to make the stories interesting. However, it gets to the point of absurdity when they have the Flash get taken out by something as simple as someone sticking their leg out as he is running by and tripping him. It's lazy writing that ignores the most basic of the Flash's powers.

+Defx10 I'd say it's more of a comic relief. They know he's The Boss, but if you treat him like The Boss, then there's nothing for him to do. You just said it, "they have to de-power him to make the stories interesting." And you're right, they are interesting! They go in more of a "What can Speed do?" instead of "How fast can he move" route by making him on clouds and vibrating planes through bridges! That's awesome to me that they push the boundaries of just a runner. Too add, the most interesting thing about Flash are the 2 villains Cold and Zoom who can both match and slow him down. Villains make the hero, and Flash has some pretty spiffy ones at that. And for Defx10, yes he can "kill" anything and anybody, but realize every time he does they just get out, mainly because he can't kill. The bigges

Bert I consider myself to be fairly well-versed in a lot of fiction- comic books, anime, movies, television shows- and throughout all realms of entertainment, DC still has some of the most powerful characters I've ever seen. Heroes who can shatter space and time with their fists, entities that can hold universes in their hands, cosmic beings that create and destroy dimensions for casual fun. The Flash is very powerful, but it's a big multiverse out there.

m i n e actually it does, the observable, universe is what we have seen because the light takes to long to get here. So when the light arrives the observable universe does expand. And for everyone the measurement he used was the current (at the time) estimates for the diameter

Well, Theoretically yes, As he draws power from the speed force, which is basely all things speed the problem is if he were to move that fast he may move even faster then the speed force and losing the power to work with reality and could kill himself(even though the speed force is all things speed, even it has a limit such as the time barrier and such).

One thing that has confused me is why the Flash eats so much, doesn’t his energy come from the speed force? But a theory I have is that the speed force gives him the required energy to use his Flash abilities, like running incredibly fast, while the energy he obtains from food is used by his body to heal wounds and sustain itself when he isn’t using his powers like a normal human, as well as keep his body strong and in-shape. (Because running faster than the speed of light is probably going to inflict just a little too much pressure on your body) This way, he would still need to eat plenty more than an average person because of certain things like his speed healing, but he most definitely doesn’t need 237,000,000,000,000 calories, the speed force will cover most of that.

Things people in the comments got wrong: He isn't underrated in movies or shows, he simply is still learning. Just because the flash is faster than instantaneous, does not mean he is omnipresent. If your omnipresent you don't have to travel, you were already there, and you always will be. In flashes case, he is still traveling. Just because he moved faster than instantaneous transportation, it does not mean he can beat everyone in DC. Omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient people can still beat. Omnipresent because that person is already there, omnipotent because they can simply give themselves the power to be faster than flash, and omniscient b/c they will already know how the flash will attack, when he will attack and how to respond to the attack.

Put it like this, let's say you had to do math homework that would normally take 20 minutes, even with flash's powers it would still feel like it 20 minutes it just wouldn't actually be 20 minutes. A second to us feels like a day to the Flash, he can perceive events that happen within a quintillionth of a second, Flash's powers actually must suck.

Well, no one cared to answer that. I will try my best. If we consider the speeds achieved in the comics then Wally West is clearly faster than Barry Allen. However, Barry Allen is the source for the speed force itself which means he can enter and reappear at any time he wants. This would mean that Barry can be faster than teleportation. However, he knows that doing that has consequences. Running too fast has consequences and hence he never attempts to do anything like Wally did. Also, in this instance Wally made use of the Kinetic energy from every living being and hence was able to siphon off their speed. Barry is the source of Speed Force so he can at any time tap into that Speed Force in a better way than Wally or simply get rid of the Speed Force to take away Wally's power. Well, unless some writer decides to take up the challenge to show actual speed of Barry this would be always debated. I for one would love to see Barry and Wally run to prove who is the fastest man alive (Without Wally siphoning other's energy, also Wally cannot siphon Barry's speed because he is the source himself). However, when the name The Flash appears first person that comes into my mind is Barry Allen, even though he isn't the first speedster.

He's able to manipulate the speed force better than Barry could, but I like Barry more because I'd say he's more recognisable and just has better storys than Wally, so even though wally is technically better I would say it's down to personal preference.

even if we are, wally west flash can siphon the speed from sonic, making him automatically faster. the only beings he can't steal speed from are barry allen and eobard thawne, due to the fact that they both generate a speed force by running.

Oscar Newsome honestly there’s it’s just the writers making crap up at times because that’s only one planet but the speed force encompasses the multiverse one planet shouldn’t be that much unless we say that the flash doesn’t have the ability yet to completely use the speed force cause if he really did he would end the concept of motion itself and suicide everything because nothing would move cause all their motion would be sapped their blood stop moving and time finished

Great video. The flash has no limit because he only uses as much speed as it pertains to the situation. I believe in the comics even superman gave him a limit as to how fast he should run because if he exceeds a certain speed he could put the whole world or universe in danger. Although the flash is based on speed force most of the time its usually on belief. if he believes he can be that fast he usually is. but i might be wrong. no one know the flashes top speed tbh

Everything you said is wrong. There have been many times were a flash had to use " all the speed force" Look at when they fought superboy prime. It took Bart using all of the speed force in order to do anything. And when Wally fought Zoom.

The real flash is Barry though. Without him the speed force wouldn't grow and the other flashes wouldn't get faster. Those other flashes are nothing compared to barry. The 2nd fastest would be wally. He is able to do more with the speed force and has better access to it.(and due to the fact that he's a scientist) he knows the concepts of speed as it pertains to physics and other things. Thats why we see wally doing things barry never even thought of doing. Bart is just as fast as the other flashes. It just depends on how he uses the speed force. And how much access he has to it.

***** Flash could do that, essentially. Flash has had a fight with Zoom that took place within a picosecond. Light only travels just over 1/100th of an inch in that amount of time. Flash says at those speeds his fist hits like a White Dwarf Star. If Flash could throw a punch every picosecond (the *fight* involving him *took place* within this time), then by the time 1 actual second had gone by he would have thrown over 1,000,000,000,000 (1 trillion) punches.

Because Superman's powers are bullshit & have caused the writers to write themselves into a corner, in the new 52 they've tried to fix this by lowering his powers to be comparable to other meta humans, he's more of a symbol now rather than a broken mess he was before.
