How fast will the 7mm Rem mag go?

In this video I go to the range with a 7mm Remington Magnum loaded up with the 180 gr ELD-M bullet. We are trying to accomplish two things... Get to 2970 FPS and get a small group. I also bring my 270 Winchester loaded up with some Hammer bullets.

That's a great load. You should be able to match or exceed the 7 PRC, on the rokslide forum they pulled apart a 7 PRC load and figured it looked like RL 26. They loaded up the exact same charge of RL26 as the factory round and it was identical in speed. RL 26 is fast but has a reputation for being volatile. A 1 in 8 twist 7mm RM is at least as good or better than the Hornady round. The new Remington's are also going with a 1 in 8 twist for the 7mm RM.

That is a very impressive group shot! I thought I knew a guy that ran a compressed ram shot Magnum powder that hit 3000 FPS. If you have some of that... Do what you feel comfortable with doing. As always, safety first. Youll get that speed and really good video man! Also, he may have some better luck adding a little bit of jump.

The big different in accuracy in 7mm was changing from bipod to the bag,bipod with hard rubber feet on a crapy uneven bench will make the gun bunch all over the place in the recoil..good recoil management is the key to success (accuracy)

I have a 7rm and am shooting 180 eldm at just under 3000fps. Retumbo, rl26, and n565 are my choices for the 180s. Extremely accurate and devastating on whitetails. As long as you have a fast twist barrel you will have no issues pushing them over 2950

Not all guns are equal. I have had three 7mags. First I didnt own a chrony but second was a Interterms fancy rifle it had longer then a 24" bbl and shot pretty well. Reliable to 1" with most loads and broke 3k with my 160's. (My preferred) That rifle was gifted to a very good friend as he lusted over its figured stock and nice bluing. I hunted for three or four years until I found another. Same rifle but plain walnut without grip cap or forend tips of first. Anyhow I had to really push to vet solid into 29's. Just past 2950 and thats all I can get with any powder I have tried. This is something I have seen before. Bottom line is that Some barrels simply are "faster" then others.

My rifle shoots a charge of RL 25 & 175 eld-x in a nice accuracy node @ 3050 fps (roughly, there is a decent temperature variance w/ rl-25 in my experience), over a magneto speed, out of a 24 bbl. My buddy just found some 175 eld-x for me, but RL-25 doesn't seem to exist anymore.

@@dutch9357 Good thing he's the "real gunsmith." Let him tell it, everyone else is incompetent or fraudulent, compared to his wealth of knowledge, and decades of experience. He has very little good to say about anything new in guns and cartridges, (other than the ones he built and wildcatted) and even less to say about the noted manufacturers; having called them "liars" in some of his uploads. One of my 7mm Rem Mag with 1-9T 26” tube pushes the 175 grain NP which has a very long bearing surface @ 3060 fps with no pressure signs. IMR- 7828, H-1000 pushers the 180 grain Hybrid @ 3000 fps easily and SD and ES both single digits. RL-26 or Retumbo will provide higher velocities.

Despite the velocity accuracy wise adi here in Australia recommends 2217 which is your h1000 equivalent not the slowest not the fastest but most accurate but if you could get 3000fps which is possible with 175 grain would it still group nice is the question . It seems 160 grain is the sweet weight for this calibre
@VG-913
@VG-913 Год назад
You know. I always see guys use their calipers to measure groups because they're "more accurate" and then they don't even measure them accurately. Instead of guessing where center to center is measure from edge of the group to the further edge and then subtract .284 for 7mm. That's how you get a truly accurate measurement.
