How Fasting Revealed God's Voice in My Life

I’m fasting at the moment. A biblical fast. No food for 3-7 days. I do it every few months as a “check-in” with God but also as a living sacrifice of gratitude for everything He means to me. We must be so careful with creating our own fasts. Jesus teaches us about the proper way to fasting in the Bible. The Bible is our source for everything!! Cutting out or down on social media or anything secular should be a lifestyle and cutting out sugar (poison to our bodies anyway) - it’s not a fast. The world cuts out sugar for health reasons all the time…. We as Christians are too soft and spoilt and comfortable. Toughen up!!

I was a child in the 1970s and saw my parents fasting because it was a common practice in churches then. I only understood it as ‘not eating and being hungry, and praying.’ As an adult, I never heard about fasting at church. So thank you for teaching about fasting, what God expects fasting to be, and the wonderful results. For the last 3 months I have been fasting from time-wasting activities and replacing them with Bible study and praising God with a thankful heart. I’ve been thirsty for God’s presence and He has shown up and is breaking bonds, lifting yokes, healing me and restoring my broken places. I realise my conscious choices over the last 3 months has been a fast. (And yes, my fast has included replacing bad food with good food!)

So good - fasting humbles our soul

So necessary: Have a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and have a clear understanding of the word of God.

This blessed me. Recently I have been feeling the Holy Spirit wants me to fast and pray for a couple of things, but I haven't started yet. This was the challenge I needed to get started. Thanks for sharing.❤

Youve definitely inspired me. God has been calling me to fast so greatly. Ive gone a couple days about a week from social media. But 21 days from social media, entertainment, sugars and foods, have been a struggle. Now i understand this a bit more. God has been calling me and ive been undisciplined in following through. The Bible says to keep fasting between you and God. And here it is all over the tube like it is a magic formula, like saying, “in Jesus name”. Jesus and fasting isn’t a slot machine to insert the right stuff to somehow get a jackpot. God is HOLY.

Thank you- I knew these things in the back of my mind but had forgotten. They say “variety is the spice of life” but I think we forget the most basic truth behind that, which is that variety BALANCES life. 🙂

Definitely fast social media often. Just to keep it in check. I do need to humble myself and deny my flesh more often for sure. Jesus help me!

Thank you both for edifying the Body of Christ. LB, thank you for showcasing God's Word in scriptures and encouraging an important insight. Julia, thank you for sharing the testimony details of HOW the Lord impressed upon you and your husband to recalibrate. On a purely technical level, your testimony details helped to lay out critical CLUES ... not programming, but rather the wisdom that unfolded. Something SEEMED out of sorts in the 'BODY' of your marriage. You took stock ... assessed the 'Nature' was more spiritual. The Holy Spirit guided you ( aka, made a way) for you to pin point the approach and the two of you came into an agreement on the execution of the plan. In doing so, you remembered that you had made a previous 'commitment' that remained unfulfilled. That special commitment to Devotion you both had well intentions for, just remained as an unfulfilled intention. Time was unintentionally SPENT on other 'consuming' things ... until that PENDING devotion got hungry for your attention. That projected devotion had CONCEIVED initially ... but was never 'fed' ... until you FASTED to it. Technically speaking ... that shifted gears. Yes, Spiritual ... but so technical too. Hebrew language is very functional and our very SOUL ... has an appetite. The Spiritual feeds and nourishes our SOUL. Thank you both for hosting.

Completely do not agree with what they are saying. This type of fasting isn’t the fasting Jesus did. He fasted from food and prayed for 40 days. What y’all are talking about is giving up or sacrificing social media or desserts etc. completely different. Fast to come closer to God and Jesus. Completely from food and pray to get closer to him. Not giving up Netflix or ice cream.
