How Father Mike Schmitz Almost Got Married? with Megyn Kelly 

I left Islam and I am preparing myself to become Catholic, I am so thankful that the Church preserves such beautiful traditions. I have been watching Fr. Mike in YT . Thank you for your channel 🙏

This reminds me of the priest at my old church in California. He shared that he was engaged to be married when he was younger. Then one day, he went to a retreat and something happened to him (like that of Fr. Mike) and decided to answer God's call to priesthood. When he went back home, he called his fiancee and told her that they needed to talk, she agreed because she also had something important to tell him. When they met, he was nervous and crying and told her about his decision. She reacted the same way too.. Why?? Because while she was away, she had her own discernment and moment with God that made her decide to become a nun. So they called off the engagement and pursued holy lives through the sacrament of holy order.

As a muslim, I have tremendous respect for priests and nuns. I never forget this Padre Fortin who was the chaplan at the grad school I attended. There were a handful of Muslim students and all of them male. He became sort of like an 'Imam' for me and on my way to prayer room (he gave us the catholic chapel to use from Monday to Friday ) he would stop me to chat and ensure I was doing okay. He was worried I felt alone because I was the only Muslim female. We would about our spiritual journeys and the challenges that it entails. Later, I learned he passed away from a heart attack. As well, it seems there is an immediate unspoken connection between Muslim women and nuns. It is probabaly due to clothing, but there is almost always a 'hello'-spoken or unspoken between us. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 I’m nearly 60 and was not a practicing catholic for years… never really was actually, just did it out of fear of my parents finding out I wasn’t at mass. I’ve been listening to the bible on a year and it got me going. About 5 weeks now, so I’m not up for sainthood yet 😀 the next step is confession.. I’d guess 45 years

Father Mike never gets old or boring! She was a very good woman that understood what he had to do in his life! We’re lucky to have Father Mike as a priest and she moved on to her calling! God bless them both! 🙏❤️✝️

There are several of youngish priests on RU-vid who have had this experience. Fr. Chris Alar is another one. I think it's a good development. In my generation, boys often were persuaded into the seminary at a young age. Right about the same time Fr. Mike had his awakening. They never experienced loving and being loved and how to manage the carnal desires that come with that. A man who has gone thru it with a good woman and been victorious in his maintenance of chastity has a better understanding of the whole of human experience and can better serve the people under his care. He's not simply repeating learned rules.

I love when she says "forgive me lord" trust me sister you are not the only one praying for forgiveness constantly for the same reason 🙏

Father Mike looks like he could be related to Mike Rowe. Looks and the way they talked. I thought I would not really care for this particular episode but it went so fast and ended wanting to hear more .You were very brave to discuss your negative confession experience.

Great story. He is perfectly suited to his priestly life. May God bless him. Similar to discerning who you want to marry. You fall in love but then suddenly it is just not the right fit. Many prayers and tears with breaking up. But then everyone ends up with the partner God had in mind all the time.

So, Father John, before the seminary, proposed to his girlfriend. She flatly told him "No, God wants you to be a priest." He is such a GOOD priest. But it must have been the happiest sad day in his life!

ill never forget the day i turned to the catholic church....i was an alcoholic and woke up after a week long drinking bender literally in the gutter looking at St. Matthews cathedral upside down and while i turned to get up a man put his hand out to me and said "let me help you up buddy, i know someone i think you should meet" he took me to mass that day and it just so happens the priest talked about Jesus healing the invalid man at the pool of Bethesda from John ch. 5 and that whole message spoke to me better than 6 years of therapy ever did! I became baptized that next year

I love how lightly he wears his good looks. I’ve seen it both here and in other interviews. It isn’t news to him that people find him attractive, but he’s gracious about it and quickly moves the conversation along.

I just learned from him --- when he said that his girlfriend only wanted for him what God wanted for him. And what God wanted for her, too. I understand now and I do believe God loves us and has a plan for each of us individually. We matter to him. ❤️

I’ve been a big Fr. Mike fan for several years since first watching him on youtube. Then during the beer bug lockdown he started having a live online mass, his “virtual front pew” as he called it. Every single mass and homily are so heartfelt and 100 per cent his all is given for the Holy Trinity.

This was so beautiful. I've followed Fr. Mike for years and have never heard him tell this exact part of him becoming a priest. I pray for our amazing priests and think often that the calling to become one is directly from God and quite a mystery to this world.
