Thank you so much for sharing your trip to a Chinese bead-making factory so we can visually see the process and understand better the actual value of the beads that we select and use in our designs. I often tell my jewelry-making students that just because some beads originate from China does not mean they are bad or inferior, in fact, quite the opposite in many cases. There are valid concerns with metals and their differences in safety requirements with chemicals processing for components, but beads are quite amazing from all around the world. Sparkle on!

I'm wearing some gemstone bracelets right now, and to think, before they went through that process, they were formed sometimes millions of years ago by nature. Then humankind steps in. The water mixed with the dust looks like paint. Some gemstones such as malachite and lapis lazuli were ground up to make pigments for paint. I Imagine the dust from the bead making process of those particular minerals could be still made into paint.
