In this TEDxURI talk, Derek Dubois discusses the emergence of generative AI and its implications for academia. He highlights concerns about academic integrity, intellectual property, and bias while acknowledging AI's potential to bridge the gap between theory and practice in research. In his opinion, generative AI can mediate better modes of communication, facilitating knowledge translation and improving dialogue between academics and practitioners. Derek Dubois is an award-winning filmmaker and writer. He is currently enrolled as a Ph.D. student in Supply Chain Management at the University of Rhode Island. Derek has nearly twenty years of experience in the healthcare industry and for the past 14 years has been an adjunct professor of film and media at Rhode Island College and Clark University. He resides in Cumberland, RI with his wife and son. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
