A young scientist in Bulgaria with lots of prestigious awards for best scientific excellence practices I put my all energy in revealing the secrets of the way our DNA functions.
The way we live, the way we talk, the way we breathe and the environment is what shapes our destinies and is controlling our genomes.....and as I breathe in and out with science, it might be interesting to follow my endeavours on the battlefield of Molecular Biology.
I have graduated from the University of Sofia, Faculty of Biology in 2001 and since then have been working at the Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, Institute of Molecular Biology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, where I obtained my PhD in Molecular Biology.
Luckily I became part of a very enthusiastic and proactive team of young scientists. There I have been trained in surviving as a young scientist in Bulgaria...Difficult task regarding all the problems of Bulgaria has been faced during the first years of its democracy, but that task has been fulfilled successfully.
As a young scientist I have been granted with lots of opportunities to travel abroad and to gather experience. The healthy scientific environment in the laboratory helped me to span my ideas freely and allowed me to develop a strong scientific background.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I'm sure you are much more familiar with other TED's talks about Epigenetics and I am far from comparing myself with high quality scientists...what I aimed in my talk was to let the audience know that we all are responsible for the future of our children by the way we live and the things we do..moreover, it was centered mainly on some of our results with a set of food additives we investigate in our lab...;).. People need too know about all the dangers in our daily lives;) Thanks for the comment

Hi Milena Have you ever heard of the concept "Biology of Loss"? My interest is (also) childhood development. Can you direct me to information where experiences and emotions could be shown to unlock the Genome; relating to functional Protien building;(?) and thus resulting in functional health and -orientation in early human development? *I'm not a scientist or learned. But did help to play a child to better health. Wondering how it worked. It would be nice to find out and use it to convince others- that they probably can too: Play kids to better health!

It's not nature v nurture. It's nature AND nurture. Epigenetics will provide the most complete understanding of the human condition.

Yes! Fortunately, cells have repair mechanisms which deal with this. However, it depends on the extent DNA molecule is damaged. Therefore, in most cases the repair mechanisms could repair the damaged DNA molecule. But, there is one big BUT and it says that if DNA damages are very extensive, the repair mechanisms are incapable of repairing and then this is the big problem ahead of the cell and of us....

Браво, гордея се с такива български учени. Една от най-смислените и разбираемо поднесените лекции по темата.

Thanks for replying Milena! I hope you can put out more videos on the potential environmental dangers some day! I'd love to know more on your research! I understand that you may not be able to do so but regardless, thank you for the work your doing and helping making the world a better place x

Great comment, thanks a lot :) I am also worried about the future and that's where scientists could help a lot by letting people know all the dangers around us in order to control and fight against them....

+Bakhtiyor Rakhmanov Hello Bakhtiyor :) Epigenetics is a very progressive scientific field and there are so many brilliant articles, movies and books about it. You could check the following links: learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/epigenetics/ www.whatisepigenetics.com/fundamentals/ And I am available if further help is needed!

WOW! So interesting. Such Scientific details are well explained in the Quran. Now I understand the Quranic messages on Diet-Food, actions etc. Now I understand why Muslims are told to follow the rules of Halal and Harram. After all, it is the Creator of the Universe has created our bodies too with stunning body parts. /Salaam/peace/A convert to Islam.

This is poorly explained in almost all religious textbooks... Nothing special about your religion.. And halal and harram rule sucks..
