“But the genes that cause bipolar disorder and the genes that cause high intelligence may in some cases go together,” says Tohen. " Even with a mental disorder like bipolar, I managed to study electronics at the age of 15.? At 18, it was already intolerable, and they took me to many psychiatrists, but they were confused due to my verbal ability, I was trying to help the professionals and give them clues about my feelings. From going through euphoric states to going down to very low moods. I am already 60 years old, I worked independently as a Television Service, I had a wife and 4 intelligent and healthy children. My great-grandfather was from Switzerland and arrived in my country in 1890. I know of one of his sons, my grandfather's brother, who was depressed. My dad was too, but he was very sociable, I'm not so much. I am a person eager for knowledge and I detect that it is increasing and I don't know why? I have lost almost 9 years of life to depression, and I have come out on medication, but I am a person with a lot of self-confidence.

I didn't fall far from the tree because those who nurtured me behaved in accordance with what they inherited and learned from their experiences. Even my individual 'choices' are previously determined by my past choices and genetic inheritance. I am who I was born to be. Acceptance is the key to sanity.

I had several episodes of severe depression through my life that were diagnosed and treated. I also had periods when my mood was elevated but not enough to cause me to go to the doctor. Then after a period of great stress I was again treated for depression, tried different anti-depressants, found they made a bit high and then sleepy. Took Prozac and went manic. Since then the mood swings have become more severe. Things that previously would not cause me to switch into depression now are. So it appears my brain has been changing and then Prozac changed it a lot.

so as I understand the pyramids(enviroment/stress) is something that builds up, so the key to stress is to not let stress overwhelm you?

Great explanation and visualisation to demonstrate the predictors of bipolar. I’m not sure about the idea that anyone can have bipolar (in the same way that *possibly* anyone can have unipolar depression). Reasoning is that many, many people are on antidepressants and experience life stress that have never experienced a hypomanic episode over a lifetime. This makes me think some people just don’t have any vulnerability for this elevated state, given they’ve had the conditions for it to manifest but it never has.

"Stacking" on top of a foundation of crap? Hmm...I get it but it's not just that clear cut and simple.

Really liked content and how you explained it, but I have a doubt.. Medication for bipolar is lifelong. Since you said enviromental factors contribute to the jar, so if hypothetically if we cut down all stressors can we put the patient off medications.. Just keep therapy for check, maybe?
