Knowing what their former analytics director said, shot stopping is still the most important part for them in a GK. That's why they had Oblak as the other option 6 years ago but Alisson was the perfect GK for the style of football they wanted. Mamardashvili is the alternative universe if Oblak had signed for Liverpool and if he could've developed into a sweeper keeper.
Developing a below average distributor into a sweeper keeper might not be as straight forward as that to be fair. It’s like how some players come out at 18 with pausa and others play their whole career without ever getting it.
I don't entirely disagree but a ball-playing GK is essential in a Slot team and I feel like Slot will prioritise his ideas rather than adapt to Liverpool's game model.
@@MrBrasserieand yet he had 15 years to learn to play with his foot and he didn't. Some people are not talented at specific stuffs. Of course he can become better but i don't think that much. And he becomes better it will be in 5 years. Do you want an average keeper for 5 years? I guess with the same logic they bought Nunez. He was good at some things but poor in some important one. His finishing is bad lets be honest and his link up play is also average. But he can improve in following years, the queation is do we have a time to wait. These are really risky transfers imo
@@teovukelic5046 Did the teams he played for or started his youth career with even asked him to play the ball in his feet more? If he started in a team like Barca, then maybe he could've developed those skills earlier. Just because he's not asked to do those things doesn't mean they're bad. His shot stopping skills are already elite. There's still no timetable for when Alisson is gonna leave but there's a good chance GM's gonna be the backup next year with Kelleher likely gone and he'll get the time to develop what the coaches want from him. This is an early succession plan-style.
you are simply amazing when it comes to indepth analysis on players. refined analysis with no emotions attached. my to go place for every dossier on players. keep it up man
According to transfermarkt he is the most valuable goalkeeper in the world right now. According to fbref last season his PSXG +/- was 10+ and that meant top3 goalkeeper in the top5 leagues. So IMO current ability should be 72-75. Definetely world class talent and he has plenty of time working on his distribution
@@thomasson23 I’d say ucl class and if you were to just look at shot stopping then sure, but in the current age a keeper needs to be well rounded and be that 11th man in possession to be generational/world class. He’s only 23 though. I think it’s far more important to be a world class shot stopper and develop as a distributor than the other way around. As a liverpool fan I really hope we sign him.
i feel like he's more of an opportunistic signing, judging from the new liverpool structure works. he is still young in GK age, and could still improve. whether or not he will replace Alisson, time will tell.
6:20 The keeper at Slots Feyenoord was a very much stand on the goal line keeper, maybe that's because he was just playing him to his strengths (what a good Manager would do) but I haven't seen anything different so far that tells me Slot likes a very aggressive sweeper keeper. Instead Choosing too build up with the Cbs rather than the Keeper. I wouldnt say Thibaut Courtois is the best at build up play, but its safe to safe that hasn't been a problem for R.Madrid.
@@PythagorasinBootsby no means is he bad, just above average in my opinion, a keeper is there to stop the ball crossing the line that was my main point. Out of curiosity do you think a prime Petr Čech wouldn't be able to cut it at a top club these days? For me in his prime he plays for every team ever. Or do you think the player keeper is to important?
This video makes me think Kelleher is a better fit for Liverpool. Signing a keeper who isn't suited to a possession-based team is concerning. If the plan is to sell him for a profit after 2 solid seasons on loan then fine. I don't see him suddenly adding slick short passing and sweeping to his game at the age of 23-25. He should already be able to short pass a ball under pressure by now after spending his whole life training and playing football.
Keepers develop later. He might not see regular pitch time with Liverpool until 27 29 yo. And if he picks it up, he could give us 5 to 8 years. If not, he can be permanently on loan and sold for a profit.
I like your level-headedness when it comes to analysis. He's an absolute beast in the 6-yard box in general, but his adaptability to a high line is a worry for Liverpool fans. Still, I think shot-stopping and 1v1 success comes first.
Feel like if he went to a Girona, Betis, or Real Sociedad before going to an elite side would do him good. Those 3 teams are quite possession heavy and value the ball, which would help his development.
Please do one for Chiesa, I wanted him for Liverpool years ago but he had the 100 million price tag. I understand injuries and contract but there must be flaws in his game or a reason for the low fee? Would love to hear how you think he’ll cope in the prem and if he could potentially compete with Salah
For instance, when Diaz came in to compete with mane he really lifted our game for that season and we nearly won the prem. Wondering if chiesa could elevate our game similarly on rotation
I really love your videos, but one thing I’ve always wondered is why don’t you give a perspective of what a player could’ve done differently when you try to look at their criticisms? Or what they did well? Sometimes the video playing in the background isn’t in line with what you’re describing and it’d be nice to explicitly point it out. Similar to something, Thinking Basketball does
Hi Pythag. Love your work. I have one criticism, however, not of your RU-vid work, but your website. I've been reading through your player ratings to gauge how you compare and rate former players and legends with the younger/modern ones. But when I checked your ratings of Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, and Jimmy Johnstone, they are all filled with the profile and bio of Denis Law (for some reason) e.g. Law's picture, date of birth, place of birth, and his nicknames. The ratings appear to be correct. You gave 84 for Charlton and Moore, 81 for Johnstone and when I checked Law's rating, you gave him 79. You think Johnstone was better than Law, by the way? It would be great if you could sort these pages out because you make some great work with evidence to validate your claims. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
@PythagorasinBoots Thanks for replying. Also, what do you think of Conor Gallagher's move to Atletico Madrid? He's been given the number 4 shirt, which would suggest a defensive midfield role, but you've questioned his defensive intelligence in your video about him, and I agree with your assessment. He is a very capable box-to-box with goals in him and pressing energy for days, but not a DM. Do you think Simeone's coaching could change that about Gallagher and turn him into DM for club and (possibly) country?
@@abhinandanbanerjee5471 Liverpool don't need a shot stopper, they look to win the ball high and attack. Mamardashvilli is an amazing shot stopper, but it's a sweeper keeper that liverpool need.
@@SkywalkerXxX Depends on what you want. Alisson is good at everything, but Ederson is a better Sweeper Keeper, and Mamardashvilli is probably a better shot stopper. That said, the difference between Alisson and them in those areas isn't big enough in my opinion to warrant a change for liverpool. That said, Mamardashivilli is 8 years younger, so maybe they think he can be the next Alisson? Also looking at his distribution, that could be attractive now that long ball football is coming back into vogue.
look at results, howmany clean sheets he is having and how much is assists his teams, Liverpool represenatives often attend his game in Valencia and they love it
@@Bella-ti2ej They're club are 18th tho and have conceded 13 goals in 9 games. Granted I haven't watched Valencia matches so I can't say how much of it was Mamardashvili's own faults. But I'm just saying to replace Alisson with a GK whose team is in the bottom three might not be the greatest idea
@@eirzaa0429 I watch Valencia games and believe me if not Mamarda Valencia would be in the Secunda division , he saved the team, and none of the goals scored is his fault, soon you will be sure when u see him play for the Reds, and he was nominated as the best goalie of la Ligue
How good is Sammie Szmodics video next? He’s an interesting player, stats make him look good at scoring goals but he’s really good at passing, switches the play like Trent
Feel so sorry for Kelleher... not so much in the context of Giorgi, as it might be "opportunistic signing" and for-profit.. but kinda wish Ali was a few years older, ready to move on or retire to Saudi or the US, as Kelleher is someone I rate Top 10 in the world, at least, and deserves to be number one at Liverpool.
if kelleher is gone and a better keeper coach will guide him with Liverpool, he will learn more even from AB1 while he is the #2..Giorgi is still young and development is a must..im sure, he will be a good replacement of AB1..sorry for Kelleher..he cant wait for the right time for him❤❤❤😢
Exactly why im not sure why we signed him, especially with slot wanting to play from the back more. I dont know this transfer does not seem to make sense to me. Ali is not done either within a year. Kelleher HAS to move on for mamar to become atleast 2nd choice. All in all dissapointing transfer window from lfc once again
Alisson is a superb keeper( arguably the best)when it comes to 1v1 situations but I think there are better keepers when it comes to shot stopping . This guy from what we have seen is definitely a better shot stopper than Alisson . And slot doesn’t play a super high line like klopp and the full backs don’t push up as much . So I think there would be less 1v1 situations and less need for a sweeper keeper . And this guy is clearly going to be one of the best keepers in the world in the future so it’s a really good signing. But I’m just confused how it will work , when he comes to the club since he’s too good to be a second option. Maybe Alisson leaves next season
So if you’re seeing someone who doesn’t even seem to measure up to Kelleher, what are Liverpool seeing in this guy? Doesn’t seem like he’s up to the task.
@@BKKLB if he train long enough with alli he could be good for us, just look at kelleher he became great rn, but if alli leave before he join us it will be unfortunate.
the only negative i’ve seen about him is his ability to catch the ball, i think if we sell kelleher next summer and give this guy a year behind alisson and with our coaching staff he’ll pick it up quickly but it’s rare u see alisson not catch a shot whereas this guy is like a pickford or de gea who likes making them hollywood saves which look better if u punch them out
Love your analyses….. based on your overall stats, it looks like he is second only to Alisson!! Great buy… give him 2-3 yrs to step into Alisson shoes.
A Keeper will always be miles "BETTER" than a Sweeper !!!!!! He will save more goals, than be a part of making them ????? A Goalkeeper is only as good as the defence in front of him !!!!!!!!!!
After this analysis now I'm having doubts about him. The only thing he does very well is shot stopping. He is so clumsy. Can't make a pass to save his life. Slot builds from the back. How is this guy gonna cope? He is not the sweeper keeper we need to help in build up.
I think he needs another loan after this season. To a marseille or Leipzig where he can develop on the ball as you say. I think his fundamentals as a goalkeeper are too elite for Liverpool to turn down the opportunity to sign him and that’s why we are taking the risk
In this video he pointed at least 10 errors that lead to a goal. Remember when alisson tried to dribble and conceded a goal because of that and everyone went crazy. Try imagining doing that every now and then. He could stick with Karius if you like that level of quality ffs
@@teovukelic5046 The difference is he’s an elite shot stopper and elite at coming for crosses. Karius was neither and that’s why I think we’re taking the risk
@@leonardania8050 well at best clubs shot stopping is not that important. Alisson attributes are the one that are importat. Good with the ball, good sweepper for protecting higher line, good one vs ones, and good at his 6 yard box. Alisson doesn't have to do much in terms of shot stopping when teams against us don't have many shots. But good sweeper and passer is what should be preferred
@@teovukelic5046 I get what you’re saying. But alisson always over performs his expected goals conceded and this guy looks like he’s on the same trajectory. He’s comfortable coming for crosses so he doesn’t just save shots. I don’t think he should come directly from Valencia next season. He needs another loan to a more progressive team and we can track his progress there.
very weird signing for Liverpool. seeing how Slot wants to play more possession based football and they sign a keeper thats not great with his feet. very odd.
@@FuerstMykisch yes and he’s been quite poor for a while. If you could find a video of all goals conceded by barca last season you’d notice just how many he should have saved, and even some that he didn’t even try to save. He is far from his best nowadays and even his ability to play the ball has regressed greatly and it feels like he’s responsible for a turnover almost every game nowadays.
@@edison0462 6'3😂😂 David Raya of Arsenal is the shortest keeper in the league at 6'1 and he is up there with the best modern ball playing keepers. Gone are the days of judging keeper's height. Football evolved. You can even see every stats David Raya is number 1 or 2.
@@2daysago_ Raya has presence, kelleher is weak and fragile in aerial duels, don't try to tell me about my clubs players,I have watched EVERY kelleher game and him performing good in two useless cup finals doesn't warrant him anything on this club besides reserveGK
@@edison0462yes let's compare a kelleher that on average plays 5 games per season with someone who plays regularly for years. Kelleher played lot of games last year and improved compared to the previous seasons. So that's a promising sign. But buying mamardashvili who is awful with the ball and stays on the line most of the time is ridiculous. It's like buying a winger like adama traore who can go past players but has no end product
